13: The Life & Career of Ted Christopher

  • Full-length documentary featuring the life and career of the great Ted Christopher.
Watch until the very end! Ted Christopher was, and still is, known as one of the greatest Modified drivers of all-time. His incredible skills behind the wheel, his polarizing driving style, and his personality both on and off the track made Ted one of the most unique characters at the track. A person we lost way too soon. Get to learn more about the man New England Modified fans call "The King" in this full-length documentary!
Director's note from Bonssa Tufa: Ted Christopher was competing for the Whelen Modified Tour title when I first started watching him back when SPEED Channel was still around and broadcasting Modified races. He was racing the red 36 car for Eddie Whelan. I had heard about his three-tap rule and aggressive driving style, as well as his dominance back in the Mystique days. It was amazing to see him wheel that 36 Modified around while he was 50 years old!
When I came to Stafford in 2019, I noticed all the '13' flags around the track. Then, I learned about all the records that Ted set at Stafford and in all of Connecticut. I knew how good he was, but I didn't know how legendary he was, and still is. It's been over three years since Ted's untimely passing, and there hasn't been a full documentary on a man who is, without a doubt, documentary-worthy. So I took up the challenge and tried to give viewers a chance to not only learn about Ted's racing career, but also learn about Ted as a person because Ted's racing career is only half the story.
Not many people got to know the real Teddy behind the scenes outside of racing. He, on all accounts, was a very different person compared to the intimidating, cocky, aggressive driver many fans saw at the track. From family, to team members, to broadcasters and writers, to fellow competitors, to personal longtime friends, those who knew Teddy were able to tell their story not only about Ted's racing career, but also his personal life and who he was as a person.
I learned so much about Ted through all these stories, and I also learned about how the racing community can be one big family. Everybody came together after Ted passed away, and it showed how much of an influence Ted had on other people. I hope this documentary serves as a way, for those who never got the pleasure to see or meet Teddy, to learn more about him and his life on and off the track. For those who knew Teddy, I hope this serves as a way to physically, visually, and audibly remember a man who was considered one of the best drivers in New England, and a great person, friend, or relative to many.
Ted may be gone, but he'll never be forgotten. #TC13 #TheKing #Teddy

Well done. I learned a lot from this film. Enjoyed meeting Ted after his Super modified win at Airborne Park in the Clyde Booth 61. He not only put on a clinic in the race, he graciously autographed my daughter"s flag in the pits. She cherishes that flag to this day.

I remember sitting in the grandstands with my 2 young children at Waterford Speed bowl in CT, with Mike's wife and I think it was Teddies wife. They were so gracious and let my boy and girl talk to Teddy on their private headset during a break in events. My kids and I will remember that day and night forever.

There are certain times in your life when you hear tragic news and you never forget exactly where you were and what you were doing. This is 1 of those moments. I Used to be one of those that booed him back in early days but as his career moved on had such a respect for what he was able to continue to do on the track I began to cheer for him. Truly 1 of the best wheelman ever in whatever he drove 🏁. Wonderful tribute 👍👍

Rest in peace tc and from all I've learned of you here, both on and off the tracks, God has to be proud of you! It's men like you that truly make the world a better place. What a great tribute video this is...will be sharing it with all i can, especially my mom, dad, sister and brother. Grew up going to Stafford, Thompson, Waterford and Seekonk in the 70s-early 80s then was at the age of 18 and was too busy chasing girls. Looking back, dad was a racer in street division at Seekonk and Waterford some, if I recall correctly...I didn't have the $$ to race, neither did mom and dad...wish I'd have had the $$ to seen what I could've done on the tracks, had I been given the opportunity to been out there.....one of life's regrets. I really enjoyed this...thanks again to All who shared and helped make this entire video possible.... We're all here for far too short a time. TC sure seemed to have made a good impact daily, in how he gave all of himself and his time here, to make those around him know they're important to him. May God bless and guide us All safely back to our home on high...when our final victory laps have all been ran here on earth, as they are in heaven.

I remember when they made the announcement at WMMP in NH and the whole pits just went silent. I grew up watching or reading about TC. I always got tickets for Sat at Loudon to watch the Mods and specifically him. He will always be on the mount Rushmore of the greatest athletes in NE with Papi, Brady and Bird.

I was so mad when I heard we Lost TC, I don't know If the pilot survived that crash, But If he did, I hope he got sued, Or at least got arrested for Involuntary Manslaughter. If not the pilot, then whoever last worked on the plane. Negligence!!! Thank you for every memory you ever gave me growing up. I'm proud I can say I got to see you show your craft, Even @ Lime Rock Park. *Holds a fist high In the air*

This is amazing. Fantastic and fitting tribute to one of the greatest race car drivers ever. We miss you TC. I lost my brother suddenly 10 years ago. I'd like to think we were as close as Michael and Ted were, but we were 7 years apart. That loss hurt me to the core. Seeing Michael Sr's emotion over his brother just echo's of the emotion I felt losing my brother. Bonssa, this is award worthy!

How i met Teddy, beings that i live here in N.C. was at the North South Shootout in the 36 car. I come up to him and ask, wheres your friends and crew everyone else is around there cars. Teddy's simple comment was '' If i wanted a friend i would have brought my dog '' I was simply lost for words and he said no there in the pits working on something i forgot. It was fun times when he signed a photo card and laughed. He said i enjoy picking on you southerners!
