It's when Tombstone loses that you see that Ray Billings is actually a great guy who just puts on a villain persona for a stir

@@Techman1969 Times have changed. Back then, the show was more about the carnage and there were no public complaints about it. The people came to see destruction, Ray delivered it, and the showrunners and the audiences loved it.
Now there's a demand for consideration, probably because times are harder and costs have gone up so much.
Ray laughs as his bot thrashes itself to death and smiles good naturedly during the ten count. That's why I like the guy.
his entire purpose for competing is to be an exciter, and to wreak havoc whether it be to himself or to the opponent. He could win if he wanted to because he could go with a boring vertical spinner and play it safe, but Ray Billings would rather lose and destroy things than win with precision.
@@goronimus304 Thats why he's a crowd favorite, I take it. I have never seen a boring fight when Tombstone was involved now that I think about it. One bot always leaves in pieces.
He’s always up for putting good show and make this show great like a boss for the audiences and viewers, and the same time he also accept defeats like a boss too, good spotsmanship.

@@tigermafia6251 Yeah, I like how he will admit defeat. It drives me crazy when a bot gets wrecked by the competitor, and the driver will still be trying to drive with no wheels, while on fire. I'm sure age and experience plays a big part. Plus he's already got a Giant Nut at home. lol
@@tigermafia6251 Which MIT team are you referring to? I’ve just started getting back into BattleBots after losing track of it for years, so I may have forgotten the specifics of some of the teams.
In any case, I have to agree with you about Ray. His whole villain persona is just an act on his part to make the show more fun, but moments like these show how good of a sport he really is, and I absolutely love it!
I am amazed at how strong the front armor of Biteforce. No other bots can take front hit of Tomsbtone with ease, without suffering any damage, and turning tomsbtone blade kinetic energy onto itself.
I like how the Ref ask him if he has any control... With no his right wheel gone and half his blade.

You know, he may talk some trash, he may have the most feared weapon out there, he may be on a high horse most of the time ( for a good reason) but Ray will gracefully admit defeat when he really should. That’s sportsmanship.
6 seconds in and Bite Force delivers a lethal blow to Tombstone, taking off one of his wheels and half his blade in a single hit. This is one of the meanest 'bots out there. Bite Force even beat Endgame's record.

When Biteforce broke Tombstone's weapon, it flew backwards and destroyed its own wheel.

@@fukkitful Endgame punted Tombstone right out of the area. But it too Endgame 8 seconds to do that, whereas Biteforce broke Tombstone in a single hit in the first 6 seconds of the fight.
Captain Shrederator took longer, but still knocked Tombstone for a loop. I think it should count, since *no one* expected Tombstone to lose that one.

Tombstone is still my favorite Bot! And I feel how much Fun Ray has with his Bot. Great Entertainment.

I had to look that up and you are right. They are reminiscent of each other. In the process, I found out Berbick was murdered at church with a hatchet. Yikes.

Soooo, here's the part you missed:
Bite Force was nowhere near that wheel. It was Tombstone's own broken blade that sheared its own wheel off through pure kinetic energy as it was ripped off.
And half a blade
I respect the hell out of both of these bots, but I have to say that one hit from Bite Force was LUCKY. Yes, I know the blade that broke here was already damaged from an earlier fight, and this is the Curse of Bronco talking here, but... well, the Curse exists for a reason.
@Chaos Leviatho Tombstone's reputation is well-earned and deserved. If it were flimsy or vulnerable, it would not have gotten anywhere near to its level of success. I'm not saying it doesn't have weaknesses to exploit, only that those weaknesses have not _been easily_ exploited up until now.

Bite Force was just ahead of its time. It's the original low, ground scraping, very stable, super durable vertical spinner. They just get right under bots like Tombstone and destroy them. Later on we saw the same thing happen to Tombstone against End Game, Witch Doctor, Black Dragon, JackPot, HyperShock and Tantrum. Against the Bite Force style vertical spinner it just can't win.
The blade braking in half was pure luck, bite flesh ain’t a crazy hard hitter
Not luck, in my opinion. Bite Force was THE dominant bot for four seasons. No team will ever again win three Nuts in four seasons. That accomplishment is amazing. Bite Force was absolutely the best bot, and it wasn't because it was "lucky." It was excellent.

No right now that would be even simpler endgame, tombstone puts up some great fights but is pretty bad, matchup wise
@@DieEineMieze I wouldnt make tombstone any different if I had that chance to change it, the thing sacrifices all defences and goes for the biggest weapon in the hardest hitting configuration. It's bad and I still love it for the reactions people get when they beat it. It hasn't gotten worse the bar is just so much higher than before
@@DieEineMieze Biteforce is definitely the best bot. It has 3 titles. It's pretty much universally regarded as the GOAT of this sport's short history.
The winning formula is to either be Bite Force or a copy of Bite Force. If you look at s5 winner - End Game, it's basically an exact copy of Bite Force

Until they change the game, that's going to be the meta. Physics literally gives vertical spinners an advantage.

this might have been a material fatigue on Tombstone's blade, if he does not use new one for each fight.
Might have happened against any other bot. Not trying to take the victory from BiteForce, he withstood the attack that tore Tombstone's blade in half...
@@zedlav915 The driving of Bite Force looks so simple compared to many other bots. So many other bots circle around their opponent, looking for the perfect angle for an attack, trying to avoid a weapon to weapon collision. Bite Force instead just confidently drives directly into a weapon to weapon collision. When the collision happens it's always the other bot that breaks and Bite Force remains intact. So I think the key to Bite Force's success was its superior durability that allowed it to survive weapon to weapon collisions
When Tombstone The King Of Kinetic Energy K.O. Ray Billings Laughs!
Throughout the first 4 seasons of Battlebots, these were the only 2 that just about never once faltered and were always dominate. Though it was the semi final, you got the sense the giant nut was on the line right here. The duel between the best 2 since 2015. Surely this would be a long, hard fought, intense, close battle, right?
Nope. Bite Force very well established their place atop Battlebots hierarchy. At the top.
Biteforce is magically protected. that is the only explanation for it going head to head with that massive spinner and coming out ahead
I think they mentioned it either during that episode or the previous one but they had a wedge set up specifically for toombstone designed to produce something fairly close to this result, my thoughts on seeing it were "ohhhhhh, this is going to be....energetic" and about 5 seconds after I finished saying that into the discord call (watching the episode as a big group) the bar was in two pieces.
it actually worked even better than I thought it would: I expected more throw and less structural damage to the weapon, dunno if I modeled it wrong in my head or if they just got super lucky with exactly when and where they hit or maybe if there was just plain bad material in toombstone's weapon bar...really wish they had low-end highspeeds in the arena so we could get a look at _how_ these weapons are interacting (most of the arena cameras are only going at 24 fps so a lot of the time they just straight up do not get a frame reasonably close to either side of a big/good hit which seems...rather a poor decision when the show's production and writing side is so completely focused on them).
Tombstone should of used the s7 blade
There are other viable horizontal spinners. Bloodsport, Malice, Valkyrie. I want Tombstone to win too but the randomness of what happens when all that mass hits a 250lb solid object is difficult to engineer around.
Funny thing is, that WAS the s7 blade - Bite Force is just that damn strong.

The group that won this year..... Tantrum....didn’t measure up to BiteForce. I think Hydra was the winner of that fight with Tantrum.
I didn’t like the way the Tantrum and Witch Doctor went down either. I have never seen fights stopped to unstick the robots when they get hung up.
Don't know what happened to him, but I would guess that he got bored from finding BattleBots too easy.
@@Aethelia He "retired" largely due to frustration with the lack of profit sharing between Discovery and the bots. He felt that the teams deserved to share in what became a profitable hit show for the network.
Biteforce should have done the Ray's "you want more?" and then pulverized his robot some more
Well to be fair the design of Bite force literally counters the weapon of tombstone like bots who have exposed tires and light armors and with small sizes can get destroyed by tombstone easily but bite force is a huge bot with tons of armor the wheels are well protected and has a powerful weapon as well
It's almost conclusive that vertical spinners are superior to horizontal ones which usually break in few exchanges, I love Tombstone and Ray is a great guy but clearly Bite Force is tune and engineered to perfection.
One blow to the side of bite force from the tombstone and wheels will get jammed. Driving and control makes bite force so remarkable. Amongst other things of course)

To clarify something here, Bite Force’s weapon actually played no part in the monster shot. What happened was that Tombstone’s blade broke upon contact, and the piece that broke off, because of where it was, flung itself right at Tombstone’s right wheel. This was enough to shear the wheel clean off. I know Bite Force got in some little shots afterwards with its weapon, but let’s be honest, Tombstone had sort of already lost at that point. 😂

It's normally not a problem because trying to get in close enough to take the wheels off also puts you in range of that devastating blade.
His wheels have only been taken off twice here and a Lucky overhead shot from Scorpios but his wheels are actually pretty smartly placed
