As a German, I can say that the Scots were such amazing people and proper fans
I'm obviously stoked that we smashed them, but I still hope for the best for Scotland

Scotish Fans were really something else. Supported their nation no matter what and ensured amazing athmosphere but were still very respectful. Very warm welcome to Germany! And i hope still the best for you guys in the rest of the tournament
As a German, I always loved Linker as a player, moderator and a great human being. The other guys are fun and interesting too!
All he needs to do is improve his pronunciation of German words, especially with his tendency towards punning; in other words, 'Cruise' might work with someone called Cruz, but it doesn't work with someone called Kroos....

@frankmcloughlin7076 In the conventions of English humour the pun works. You don’t need the object word to completely replicate the sound of its counterpart, if it’s close to the sound it’s good enough. Newspaper headlines do it all the time.

The fans are on another different level from others, Wish all of them to somehow progress to the next stage in EURO theirs electric will be missed.
Fun fact .... on German broadcaster ZDF with Kramer and Mertesacker as commentators, Kramer, after 12 seconds into the game said, it'll be 3:0 by half time ... and it was.
To give context: it was because he saw that Scotland was not pressing at all. So, same thing as what was said in the podcast.
@@rokker333 it just doesn't explain why not. It wasn't "just Scotland" ... after all in the last 3 years Scotland in competition (not friendlies) has beaten Spain, Norway, Austria, Denmark and the Ukraine. And let's not forget, they qualified while others didn't for a reason.

"I actually said England, Portugal, and Germany". Yeah, but you're Gary Lineker, the guy who coined the famous phrase "Football is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win."
Every time the Scots sang their national anthem during the game ended in a Germany goal. It was almost staged it was so perfect.
Yeah, I felt a bit sorry as a German.

The England football team have a history of getting bad results every tournament, drawing against weak teams and sometimes losing important games in the group stage, makes no sense to have optimism as England have never beaten a good team in the group stages in the last 50 years, routine failure is the common experience as a fan watching the England football team. A media with high expectations is psychotic and completely mental and makes no sense ✌️❤️🇬🇧no evidence of a tournament win in the last 58 years.
Watched the game with hundreds of Scots in a Munich Biergarten and they were a credit for their country 👏👏👏👏👏 would be cool if the English be likewise

As a Scotland fan that watches the games, the worst part was knowing that they can play some decent football, that wasn’t the shell-shocked mess on display last night. Personally don’t think you gain anything from playing Porteous over McKenna, leaving Billy Gilmour out and not taking Craig Gordon with you but no one really showed up anyway. If we went out, got beat 5-1 but you know we left it all out on the pitch would have been fine but think everyone who has followed this squad knows that it didn’t need to be a 5-1 loss, even if Germany showed the best-in-class they have. Worst part was losing 5-1 and it was only Germans hitting the back of the net! 😂
Germany in fairness were brilliant in that opening half. Scotlqnd had no time on the ball to do anything. They hunted in wolf packs and annihilated them

Michah saying nobody had Germany to win tournament.... They are 3rd favourites on most betting sites and i have put my money on Germany too. Germans have an easy run up to semi finals too most likely.
If Germany and Spain top their groups they met in the quarter finals.

Scotland wanted to keep germany quiet and hope the crowd gets anxious.. after the goal they had no idea what to do
I knew we were getting pumped before the first went in. You could see it right from kick off, they froze straight away.
I said exactly the same. When I saw them walking out the tunnel I was thinking they were looking physically scared. If I’m honest I’m relieved it wasn’t worse, at half time I was dreading an 8 or 9 nil. After watching the Swiss today we better get our act together or we are going to get thumped again. Hungry didn’t look great. The manager and senior players really need to get some serious motivation going. Defeat is fine but playing with fear and lack of passion is unacceptable.
@@LoneRangerG5 Aye Andy Robertson looked like he'd just seen his dead grandparents walk down the tunnel. Then the game kicked off and it was a shapeless mess after 10 seconds. Brutal stuff but at least it wasn't a worse scoreline as you say.

Love the pod. Surprised they didn’t mention the great VAR decisions, without them Germany would have had a penalty that wasn’t in the box and nothing for the tackle that was a red card, it’s a publicity problem for VAR good decisions aren’t cheered but bad ones are heavily criticised

Always fun to get there, then you find out how far behind you are on almost every element of football.
I don’t think we’re the fittest. Most athletic. Technical. Tactical.
But we do effort.
Same with our clubs in the CL. You see the chasm. You can close it sometimes in the odd game, but overall, we are so far behind and have been for decades.
A good home team win is excellent for the tournament as a whole. The atmosphere in and around it will be enhanced.

Jamal Musiala, was the best player on the night, he has brilliant feet. My god how he links with players is absolutely brilliant. Scottland did not close down their spaces. The way Germany came out, I think it shell-shocked Scottland.

The worst thing about Scotland's performance was the lack of cohesion in pressing Germany when they were in the final third. They all went at different times and left massive holes.

In 2010 Switzerland beat Spain at the world cup by basically playing a 4-5-1 and putting pressure on Spains midfield. They rode their luck and ended up winning but Switzerland were really looking for a draw.
Why Scotland couldn't try something similar and put direct pressure on Kroos, is beyond me and might even be beyond that team.
But at least us Scottish fans just enjoy themselves win or loose. Look at the crowd mixing and dancing and laughing
This podcast now reminds me of when I lived in Malta in 2018 watching the World Cup with work colleagues and friends etc, such a laugh with mates during footy tournaments. I'm sure you guys are having an absolute ball.

I think you are being too kind. I have been following Scotland for 50 years (since i was about 10). I am over in Germany and can honestly say that was the worst performance i have ever seen from a Scotland side in my life (and we have had worse sides) . It was embarrasing. They hardly touched the ball.I mean i could not see what they were trying to acheive with those tacticts and reckon this could end up being a disaster for us with 3 defeats. Good luck to England

You've got to say that Scotland has resource problems which maybe forced them to limit injury and card risks, otherwise they would be struggling against the lesser teams. But Germany is always going to punish any team that doesn't try to spoil their key skill which is passing accuracy and keeping the ball by putting them under as much pressure as possible.
