9:15 the game will be a dark take on the Journey to the West story (hence the name Black Myth), so you'll see familiar characters but the story won't be what you remember.
btw you can definitely call this Chinese mythology because the Monkey King's story heavily features Buddist and Taoist gods and creatures.
Awesome! I wasn't too sure where it landed (in either Storytelling or Myth) as I'm not super well versed on that aspect of Chinese Culture.
Some information from Q&A of GS web site:
1. The core creators are also directors of the company, and they are also directors of other companies
2. Money is not a problem. Now the investment company has invested at least 300 million RMB
3. Absolute stand-alone game without any in-app purchase content
4. All platforms will be sold (PC PS XBOX, virtual platforms are also under consideration)
5. The core creators are a group of middle-aged people, their goal is to "make a game that touches them"
6. The company has been short of people, but not particularly short. This is a factor that affects whether the game can be released in 2023.
7. The story will be as "black" as its name, boldly conceive the Journey to the West from the perspective of realism, subvert common sense, and there is no absolute goodness or evil.
8. The copywriting is very good, the content is Chinese philosophy, but it also tests the level of the translator
9. The newly announced dragon is KangJin long, one of the twenty-eight stars. In the original book, Sun Wukong was trapped by cymbals (end of the video). KangJin long drilled a hole with his horns, and Sun Wukong drilled into KangJin long’s horns and finally escaped.
10. The statues and buildings in the video are all based on ancient Chinese prototypes
And I recommend a very good Chinese animated movie 《大闹天宫Havoc in Heaven》czcams.com/video/Ikfn94UFIVU/video.html which is based on 4th&5th chapters of 《西游记 The journal to the west》to give you some information about the Sun Wukong's capability in the novel.
Some more info about gameplay: it will be completely linear and between 15-20 hours long
You're the first reactor I saw that picked up on the fact that Chinese dragons breathe water, not fire (the dragon here is not a typical dragon though; he's a demon or something). You know your stuff, that's cool.

I'm super hyped for this game. That snow really did look incredible.
I remember seeing the Japanese 1978 version of the Journey to the West on TV as a kid visiting my family friends in Australia back in the early 90's. The song has stuck in my head since~ Monkey Magic~ Monkey Magic~
I loved that show so much
It's got the Buddhist setting. In the religion they believe there are three buddhas, the one from the before life, the one from the current life, the one from the after life (past, present and future). My guessing is the buddha at the end in the temple is the one from the future(or someone who pretend to be him - Yellow eyebrows king who serves future buddha). This might be related the 'The journey to the west' chapter 65, monkey king faced the same enemy yellow eyebrows king. So the game could be the monkey is going through the same journey/challenge that monkey king has done. And the big golden UFO like thing is cymbals that belongs to fiture buddha which has been stolen by that yellow eyebrow king. Cymbals can be used as a weapon to lock someone in. If you pay attention to the end someone(got trapped) was knocking the cymbals from inside.
That was a celestial dragon. You can tell by how many claws it has. They can control the weather.

All the backgrounds and scenes, as well as narratives and related music, can be traced back to Chinese mythology and related records. These seem like real history. I am looking forward to these and hope that players from other countries can learn about the historical myths behind them if they are interested.

personally I would watch the latter cartoon around the 90s after the liveaction show ended, to see WuKong's capability and origins.
