@@FixedUntilBroken I have a spare cluster that came from a Denali I think, needs the mileage Upped to match my current one. Maybe I can build a harness to do that myself, or I had wondered if I could trick it by sending a VSS signal or something and "running up the mileage" with an input.
Not the most exciting video but I tried to drop some knowledge bombs in there. If you are familiar with these it nothing should be a surprise. Really just covering some common questions I get emailed or asked on Facebook. I got the idea for video because I did a repair this week that messaged me back asking is a replaced all the motors in his. I fully tested his before mailing it back out so know the cluster isn't the issue for his fuel gauge but Its never fun to have to explain it after the fact because that feeling of trust afterwords. I would not blame the guy if he didn't trust me because he has no reason to I am just a random person to him. Just to be clear there is not argument with him nor tensions I just wanted to explain where I got the idea from and will probably use this video in the future for anyone that has questions about fixing these.
Well at the moment everything is back working as it should so I'm just going to pull it out upgrade the bulbs if I can find a darkish blue or either a purple led kit I would like to do all other light bulbs like 4x4 AC controls light switch bulbs all to the same color scheme.
Hello. Could you please tell me what viscosity of oil you are using? The bottle must have a Superlube product code or may have a cSt value. PS. Thanks for this info, I hope it helps me! :)
I have a 1999 nbs silverado. It shows 0 mph until about 10 mph where it will jump to 10 ish. Then bounces up and down as it climbs. It then smooths out at around 50mph. It seems to be affecting the transmission shifting. I am a ford guy, never owned a silverado so I'm still learning, but is what I'm describing a common symptom with a "dry" motor?
Trans temp intermittently works on my cluster. Sometimes pegged at 300 degrees at startup, Sometimes pegs from 150 to 300 then creeps down, sometines stays high, Sometimes doesn't read at all. Also, right side turn signal intermittently flashes fast like a bulb is burnt out but all bulbs work fine. Think this is a cluster issue or no? 2001 chevy 3500, 8.1l gas with allison 5 speed. Can I test the gauge somehow?
Can you use like 3 In One silicone oil as well as the Super Lube. I only ask because I already have some of the 3 In One on hand and hardly ever use it so hate to buy more stuff I hardly ever use.
So it pulls the air out making a vacuum in the motor, in turn the motor sucks the oil in. once you let off the pressure. the motor is sealed so no matter how hard you try to push you wont get it in with pushing. suction works better.
You mentioned you covered treating air core motors with syringe and silicone in a previous video. I remember exactly that I have already watched that video but I can't find it. Could you help me out?
Can you add a transmission temp Guage to these? I've seen the heavy duties have them but not the 1500s but my 2001 silverado has the towing package and transmission cooler also some heavy duty front end components from factory that's not normal on the 1500s but no trans temp Guage.
Whoops I see now maybe I didn't hear but I did find what I was looking for they are 194 twist lock sockets if I am not wrong www.amazon.com/194-twist-lock-socket/s?k=194+twist+lock+socket
So I have an 02 tahoe and when I woke up this morning to leave for work my fuel gauge registered empty fuel light on it had half tank when I parked it drove to gas station put 10 gallons in still never moved drove an hour to work and at break time was checking it out while on the phone with my mechanic and he said to tap the dash and it started working again so what is your suggestions?
Its hard to say without seeing the cluster in person. on the 99-02 99 out of 100 times its the sending unit in the gas tank and not the cluster. Those Air core motors rarely fail. they get jumpy but rarely get stuck. 03-07 its about 50/50 cluster vs sender.
@@FixedUntilBroken well if it was the sending unit me tapping on the dash above the fuel gauge wouldn't have caused it to start working again..... correct?
@@tylermurphy9020 Correct but if the Fuel light is on The sending unit IS 100% telling the PCM its out fuel. Cluster has nothing to do with that it just gets told what to do there. tapping could have been at just the right time. like I said its impossible to say for sure without seeing it in person. I cant tell you without a doubt either way. I just say from my experience with 1000s of clusters I have never seen a Air core motor fully fail before in person. ( I know they do fail I just have never seen it myself). That doesn't mean yours didn't fail though.
@@FixedUntilBroken can you please do a video on how to reset the needles on a 99-02 cluster. Not having any luck on finding anything online. There were a few others that needed help as well. Thank you I’d really appreciate it !
Most of oil the oil pressure, speedo and tach have there own wire. Fuel and temp are on the j850 bus. Just Google year/model and the words cluster pin out. You will find a chart
Four years after this video, it is a life saver for me, thank you! :)
Great info, thanks. Looking forward to your next videos
Next couple of videos will be some more tuning, programming 99-02 cluster without taking the board of and building that CNC router.

The fuel light went off when I did the tapping and it reads correct amount of fuel even plugged in a scanner to check and see so

When repairing the air core motors do you actually add silicone oil? It appears like you were just removing air with the syringe.
So it pulls the air out making a vacuum in the motor, in turn the motor sucks the oil in. once you let off the pressure. the motor is sealed so no matter how hard you try to push you wont get it in with pushing. suction works better.
What kind of bulbs are the soldered in one's for the check engine light?
What kind of stepper motor is in the 02 Cadillac Escalade gas gauge ? Is it plastic one or the bigger looking one
Xan you do 7k tach and 140 speedo on these?
You mentioned you covered treating air core motors with syringe and silicone in a previous video. I remember exactly that I have already watched that video but I can't find it. Could you help me out?
It's super lube silicone oil
What bulb size are the turn signals ?
What cST rating is that oil? I can't read the bottle on the video.

Yes I have a video about it on the channel
What are the bulbs that you use if you get those sockets? What should I search to find those sockets or can you link them to me?
Thanks good video

Did you post the one to reset needles?
I was looking for the same thing
Can u please show me how to put the oil In the Air core motor on 2001 can u explain it better how to do that thanks
All you are doing is pulling the air out of the motor to create suction that will pull the oil into it.
Do you have a video on how to reset the needles ?
I know I have shown it in some but I don't have a how to video on that. I can do one though.
