Follow up from our April Fool’s Prank 😂 Derrick reveals his ethnic background and the results may (or may not) surprise you!!! @23andme #PortugueseProblems #EthnicBackgrounds #ItalianProblems
Spanish and Portuguese are basically the same thing, genetically speaking. They should have just said Iberian to keep it simple. Also, Iberian blood is already pretty mixed, containing a hefty amount of Roman (Italian), Greek, Arab, Berber and some Germanic. Oh, and there's a sixth in the mix; the original Iberians of pre-bronze age (before Roman, Islamic and Catholic colonization).
But what isn't really? Even Germans are a mix of other European ancestries as well. And I notice that it is not uncommon for English, Irish and Scottish people to show some Iberian ancestry on their results, and even some with a bit of middle eastern, even though they claim to be as English as fish and chips.
My dad's parents are Portuguese immigrants from the Azores. My mom's mom is a German immigrant my mom's dad is an American and a Mayflower English colonist descendant. Here's my ancestry: Dad: 49% Portuguese, 1% Senegalese/Cape Verdean Mom: 18% German, 10% English, 6% Swedish/Danish, 5% Scottish, 5% Welsh, 3% Jewish, 3% Eastern European/Russian
I got similar results when I first signed onto that service. Within like a year or something...they changed my results and I came up as pretty much 100 percent Iberian ( portuguese/spanish)...but really portuguese.. having connections to various places in portuguese territory....
@@SimpleMinded221 2.9 Arabian, 0.3% sub Saharan African, 1.4 % native American, and the rest was northern Pakistan, which is odd. I'm assuming it is related to the Arabic portion. Some type of Islamic Odyssey. Oh another O.3% was Ashkenazi jewish
My sister is Dominican but light skin. She got 25% Spanish and 23% Portuguese and I was surprised that there was any Portuguese there because we are Hispanic country and I have a great grandfather who is known to have been born in Spain. But then again, anything could’ve happened Prior to my great grandparents. In the Portuguese travel to the Americas to trade stuff. Also obviously they traveled to Spain very easily so there could’ve been a mix in there. She did not use 23 on me because this was many years ago.
This is just 100% Azorean, the Islands were settled mostly by Portuguese but African slaves and Moorish prisoners were brought to the Islands and mixed in over hundreds of years, thats where the sub-Saharan and North African come from.

These tests are unbalanced due to many Azorean background AMericans testing, so we need much more Portuguese testing to have more exact results.
