the best version is definitly BJ THOMAS, this songs puts you in another leve!
I love all versions of this song as each singer brings something new to it. BJ had a very lilting pop sound and it was perfect for the era when this came out.

brings me back to when i was a DJ in the late 70's in NY and gave this version a lot of airplay, would love to get back into it and host a show down here featuring music from the 60's and 70's cause its not about living in the past but reliving the memories that keep us young at heart .... breaking into radio again is another thing

I like B.J. Thomas's version, it has a very late 70's pop feel to it. They are all good but very different.

Man I love this song. I like the Beach Boys' version the best, as it's one of my all-time favorite songs, but love BJ Thomas too. He is better on his other hits like Hooked on a feeling, Raindrops keep falling on my head, and This time the girl is gonna stay, but still a great song here. Thanks for posting. I didn't even know he sang this song till last night.
One of my fav songs. The Bay City Rollers did a great job of it on one of their albums as well. I don't care, myself, too much for the Keith Moon and Brian Ferry versions. I did however, purchase a copy of this one back in the day. Thanks for putting it on here for us to listen to again!

I like the Beach Boys version musically, as you can't beat their background harmonies! But the changing of the words is great, as more people can relate to that.

Love is made of dreams, and when is made of facts you need to dream more to make it better, cause when it comes true the shining light starts to dissappear.Therefore the bext love is the one that was so close and so far,then you do not see the end...
Just wondering, who wrote the new lyrics? Was it BJ himself? I had to laugh when I saw that light your sitting next to, my Grandma had the same light, brought back some memories.
LOL! I see your point...but, my videos don't always relate specifically to the date of a records release, the styles of the time, etc. As for Gordon, I just happen to have a bunch of video of him available....It could have been any driver. Now, about the race thing....well, it still works with racing in that racers have much love for what they do, their fans and their families.

This might be one of the worst covers of any song ever. Absolutely god awful!
I don't only hate this version I hate Jeff Gordon too. He completely ruined my favorite song. He should of left it a car song. Lorrie Morgan's & Ronnie Spector's versions are 100% better.
