Very nice. Yep! MIKES GREAT. ALL HIS STUFF.
Yes, Mike's items were pristine, delivered at York, and he did a video so we could see the kline engine run. A first rate train guy. Thanks Mike.
Awesome buys and love the train!
Nice to welcome another black bonnet train guy to the trainboard.
Awesome passenger set!!
Yes, comes across nicely, especially if you can watch on a large 4k tv. Much appreciated. Gary
Nice haul plus a great video.
Thanks so much, yes and we really hit our budget for the year real hard.... but bought some long sought after items. Our must have list is getting shorter and shorter...
New to the hobby. I've watched a lot of videos over the last six months and this is by far the best.
Awe, thank you so much!! Welcome to the wonderful world of model railroading! - Ryan
Wow, that paint scheme looks amazing cruising the track!
Yes, Tim, we agree. Very nice bonnet sets. Thanks
Awesome, Ryan & Gary..,👍👍 the Black Bonnet is growing on me 😉
Chazz, give bonnets time...they often stand out as an unusual fantasy set
They look great running around the layout
Thanks joseph, so glad you are pleased with this special run
Congratulations on the new additions, they look great!
Thanks, we love these black bonnet fantasy items. Thanks so much for commenting
excellent!
Much appreciated
Awesome haul guys! Those black bonnets look fantastic!!!
Yes, very pleased with some of those impressive freight cars, those striking passenger cars, those well done kline engines...thanks for watching
Really nice. Ya'll are starting a trend here...the Black Bonnet. Even if it was never real, they look nice
It's that santa fe symbol that I love most..then the black on that covered hopper, the that special caboose, then the black bonnet paint. I tried to make each car in this train above average. Hope it comes across in the video. Gary
It comes across awesome. @@TheTrainboard
Hey guy's love the shiny paint on the santa fe
Yes, and those tankers are especially nice.
Nice to see someone else loves the BlackBonnet stuff as much as I do! Enjoy!
Matt, I thought of you when I saw mike listing these for sale, not sure how to reach out to you and give you a wanted alert. Gary
Thanks, Gary. I appreciate that. Got to put the brakes on some spending, unfortunately. Sort of takes away the fun! @@TheTrainboard
@mattstrainroom new stuff is exciting but, when I turn the lights on in our trainboard cellar, I always see our wall of trains and appreciate what we already have and the years of fun we have already had and will have. Some of my oldest or least expensive stuff, like my toy soldiers and skaters, my lionel airport from 1958, my first korber factory I assembled, or first plaster santa's mountain, do bring a very satisfying feeling. My trainboard is a good friend with memories and stories to tell.
Wow. Whoever wrapped up the first set of "Blackbonnets" gave new meaning to the phrase "Sanitary wrapped for YOUR protection!" 😂
Sorry for the late comment, we got back from a two-day return drive from Florida and have to take care of the usual stuf, unpacking, doing laundry, and in my case dealing with the leaf blizzard in the front and back yards. Yep, it's Fall all right!
Ryan hit on a good point, even though a high-gloss finish may be correct for the prototype for some reason a semi-gloss or flat finish always looks best on the models, ANY kind of models! Strange but true.
Anyway, that "Blackbonnet" collection is spectacular Gary! As a rule I'm not too crazy about fantasy paint schemes but I do find some pretty amazing and the "Blackbonnet" is one of them. If Santa Fe never had a train like that they probably should have!
Thanks for sharing the noew aquisitions with us!
Your dad is awesome, love his honesty! Omg what a haul.... you were right, love those black bonnets! That caboose omg! I like k-line but I didn't know their bb were that nice. I'll keep an eye out. I'm wanting to add to mine. Awesome consist you have there🖤💛❤️
Thanks. And remember, we didnt run our bonnet mth engine with whistle steam. And that GP35 is real nice.
@@TheTrainboard oh that sounds great! I'm waiting for many pre-orders to arrive. Pat's is awesome. Like your dad said, would be nice for some scale passenger cars. That k-line price tag is a bit HIGH.
Great picks! Your dad is right...Black Bonnets are awesome. Love Ryans enthusiasm.
We've always liked black and red. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Hello mr.muffin. love the channel ❤
Hey Joseph, this is theTrainboard. Mr. Muffin is one of our favorite train store and on line vendors. Thanks for watching.
Yes, Mike's items were pristine, delivered at York, and he did a video so we could see the kline engine run. A first rate train guy. Thanks Mike.
You can use that switch to chose from one or there other, you have to take off the plastic switch cover and set it in the position you want the switch and then you can put the plastic switch cover back on that is what it looks like to me under that caboose
Great haul I love the Mark light on the lead loco. Now we just have to convince BNSF to produce a black bonnet heritage unit!
That heritage would be special. Thanks for watching and your comments. Gary
Ryan be careful with the smoking caboose.I had a k-line that started to melt in command mode.moniter it carefully
Thanks for the warning...will watch it carefully. Thanks fo commenting
Those are some beautiful Black Bonnets. I too am trying to build out my Black Bonnet collection. Maybe someday I will catch up with you. 😄 Just thinking about the MTH B unit. Maybe the shell is on backwards. If you reverse it, will that put the smoke unit under the opening??? Thanks for sharing.
Scott, I did find black bonnet items hard to acquire although I'm set for now. Pats trains is the man for black bonnet but at premium, higher prices. Thanks for commenting. Gary
The tmcc/dcs switch was originally intended to drop voltage to the smoke unit so it would not burn up while running in command mode.
Thanks so much, we did not know that. That helps explain why so many smoking cabooses burn out their smokers so fast. Have you ever tried to modify a smoking caboose so that it will be much less likely to burn out its smoker? Gary
@TheTrainboard Honestly I've never tried, I just shut them off in command mode. Conventional never had a problem.
Not sure about K- line but Lionel made TMCC caboose with crew talk. There was a Santa Fe set that had a crew talk caboose. The crew talk caboose was short lived. I made a video on one.
Dakman, I expect kline had something in mind with those on off switches on the bottom of this caboose. A crew talk caboose, reasonably priced, would be special. Thanks for commenting and watching.
The extra couplers on the K-Line F units are for close coupling. They replace the couplers on the B unit so if you have wider curves on your layout replace the couplers on the B unit with these and the huge gap will disappear
Thanks, John. We didn't know that but that close coupling is real nice and should be on more diesels. We love this kline with TMCC. Thanks for commenting and watching
Mike is getting rid of all of his lionle train stuff except for a sertin amount of his older lionle train stuff
We do wish lionel would do better quality control and sell at more resonable prices. Higher volume at lower prices. But, lionel believes in their business model of sell high when selling less.
Just a stupid question
Did Santa Fe actually have black bonnets?
They sure look sharp
Hopefully see you at Edison
We will be at edison greenberg, hoping to see matt's new models and the raritan valley Hirailers...no idea on actual black bonnets.
No, there never were real "Black Bonnets." What happend was a color freakout on a Kodacrome slide caused the silver side of a Santa Fe F3 to register as black on the photo slide. Kodachrome was great color film but was subject to these occasional freakouts.
The slide was shown to a Lionel catalog artist and he copied what he saw so the black sided F3 made it into Lionels catalog. Lionel didn't bother to scrap the catalogs but they never made an F3 in black.
The "Black Bonnet" scheme as cool as it looks is strictly fantasy.
Thank you for the information
