- Author and Hollywood historian John O'Dowd was a guest on the 3/17/2019 edition of 89.1 WFDU fm's "The Vintage Rock & Pop Shop" hosted by Ghosty. Topics discussed include the life of actress Barbara Payton and the challenges of compiling his new photo book.

I can't recommend John O'Dowd's books on Barbara Payton too highly. He is sympathetic but doesn't whitewash the negative aspects. His greatest accomplishment is bringing her to life as a real person who was worthwhile even though troubled.
It was a good interview in large part because it was with a good writer who wrote a very good book about an interesting and much-maligned subject.
Great Interview.
Love this interview!😁
Barbara, was molested by her friend's father at 14 or 15! I wonder if that had anything to do with her loose ways! Men, in Hollywood kept her on the Casting Couch! She was fresh meat! She was a great actress! I hope that times have changed for women now! A good story told about her worst time in her life!
Thank you, Cecilie, for your very astute observations. Barbara was a worthwhile person with many challenges, but in no way was she a "loser."
@@jod6cindy reread. She said loose. Not loser
I think Barbara was kind of ‘fast’ and 14 wasn’t really THAT young for girls back then so I’d say maybe moreso something that happened when she was a little girl. Having drunk parents puts you in lots of unfortunate and prob inappropriate situations
Really
Barbara Payton was a poet. I recite her one known poem here:

She wrote poetry but only one poem is known. I recite it here:
