Love The Basics - Krátké a kreslené filmy
the music video being “a lot” was intentional-it’s an ironic response to haters of kpop saying that kpop videos use too much CGI and are too colorful. so they went, “oh, you wanna see CGI & colors?” and embraced it in IDOL
Yup!! And the lyrics match with it. Love it so much
lmao i love that
lmaooo i didn’t know that
Yeah basically they did many things the haters criticized them for in the past and dial it all up to 11😆 It's also so funny this song end up one of the most popular song despite of it 🤣
I think one of the biggest flexed BTS has is having an entire stadium singing at the top of their lungs “YOU CAN’T STOP ME LOVING MYSELF!”
Sure enough, did you see the show they did in Brazil?! The stadium went down, and not only on the song IDOL, but on every song the B-Armys gave a show!
@@lyzakm6796 yea that was absolutely bonkers
@@lyzakm6796 Brazilian army’s are so energetic I love their energy so much
@@shreyadeshpande8784 Yes, the Brazilian people despite all that difficulty are always smiling, admirable. In every corner there is a samba circle. I really miss my homeland.
@@lyzakm6796 I love Brazilians so much! I lived there for 4 years when I was a kid and there is so much to enjoy in Brazil, the food, music, beautiful places, many interesting and friendly people, passion for football ahahha
I would really recommend you check out "BTS - IDOL Explained by a Korean" by DKDKTV as they point out some cultural references that we may not understand, Love your work💜💜💜
Yessss 😊✌
Yes
Yes pleasee

“IDOL” explores the concept of identity and being an idol for yourself,
I was told a long time ago that this video clip is like an answer to all the criticisms they receive. “BTS is only green screen” “BTS repeats lines of other songs” in this song there are parts of other songs (like anpanman)
I really love idol by the message and background.
Thank you very much for reacting to this video!💜
Yessss
The main reason why it's like that is because the song is like love yourself(and explores their identity as an idol) , so the mv is also
"idc what you think i'ma do stuff because I enjoy it. You don't like cgi? We gonna put it in. Bright stuff is girly? Put them in y'all. Don't like my glasses? I'll wear them then. You think I'm too western? I'll dance in hanboks (traditional dress) better than you" etc etc
We just gotta enjoy it
Also I'd like to see the shooting sketch reaction first!
I love this explaination
I love it lol
"What are those things in the back?" Those are maskless, faceless lions ...an Asian cultural creature doing the lion dance. Kind of like the dragons that dance in the street during Japanese celebrations. The stringed, haired lions are beloved in Korea. They are happily dancing around. They have appeared on stage with BTS too. They are huge!!
next it'll be really cool if you checked “home” performance on jimmy fallon, they filmed it in korea with their own sets so it looks more like a music video with live singing.. i think you'll like it
Pleeeeease!
Yes! The rotating room!
It was such a unique performance!
@@nicole....gonzales Yeah, i would like to see what he thinks of the rotating room too! 😆
@@Naly7 yeaah and the part where Jimin is cannot be seen from the mirror too!
The tiger, which features prominently in the video, is a sacred animal in Korean culture, symbolizing the country and its people. It's also thought of as a brave guardian against foes.
A shark also makes an appearance in the visual, aggressively trying to attack the members as they dance in a glass box. Fans made the connection to an old post on the group's fan page, when eldest member Jin asked the question, "Tigers are even stronger in water. So who would win if tigers come in and fight with sharks?"
Meanwhile, the image of the rabbit in the moon is a reference to a famous Korean folktale, in which a god honored a selfless rabbit by placing it in the moon. The rabbit also symbolizes immortality. And according to CZcamsr David Kim, there is a Korean saying that translates to "the more you are cursed at, the longer you will live." In this case, BTS could see themselves as the rabbits, indirectly referring to the criticism they've faced since their debut
unpopular opinion: Alex looks so cute when he is confused
They dropped IDOL when people were saying their music was becoming too western. And this song had the most elements of Korean culture like clothes and instruments which they used later in live performances.
I know when you paused on Tae and said "omg he looks so good" you weren't talking about his face but I'm still gonna say it. *Me whenever I look at Tae"* can't wait for you to watch the explanation. Btw, b4 I even watch it I have to click the like because I know I'm gonna learn something 💜
In the background, you can see drawings that were personally done by Jimin (a dragon), Jungkook (another dragon), Suga (Shooky, his BT21 character) and Jin (a whale, or kore in Korean). The frames that surround the drawings are made of hands and surveillance cameras, which recall the album’s concept photos. Note that Suga’s drawing of Shooky includes the numbers 13 and 18, which could represent their growth from 2013 (their debut year) to 2018 when it's released they started from zero now they on top.
I had to go back and look at the picture frames with a magnifier...🧐😎 so interesting.. i totally forgot about this, thankyou 💜
It’s an amazing video. Your the only CZcamsr that I don’t get mad at when you pause it. That’s how much I like your videos.
same maybe he's handsome hahaha
Same!! When someone pauses and rewinds it means that they're actually watching instead of just pretending, plus I also love the way he points out things which I never even noticed despite being an ARMY for 6 years!
Idol is one of their title tracks. It's under Love Yourself: Answer
My absolute FAVORITE thing is to watch reactions to Idol when they have zero context as to what is going on! The first time I watched it too I was like "What. On. Earth."
OMGGGG!!!! FINALLLYYYY!! I literally drop everything I was doing when I received the notification 😭😭😭💜💜💜💜
“Idol” is what got me into BTS :)
That means you are chaotic and like chaotic things 😂
@@ptsdtwerktwerk well.. not really
@@ptsdtwerktwerk
It's the MV that changed my perspective on BTS when I was a non fan i really liked both the MV and song
IDOL is the title track of their 2018 album Love Yourself: Answer.
The airplane in the background represents BTS's international success or their tour . They were doing love yourself world tour and all. Most of the mv's have a plane in thr background. it was still flying in dynamite mv . And the plane has landed after 5 years in butter mv . This symbolises the pandemic. They were not able to go on tour . And I think in life goes on v was driving near an airport :)
And reminder I hope he reacts to j-hope’s Airplane and BTS’s Airplane Pt. 2.
Everytime you say oh my god I can't help but laugh because thats my exact reaction when I first watched the MV😂😂😂
HAHAHHH, your reaction is very refreshing. You have more 'why & what' than 'I like that a lot' 🤣
Alex : *there's some camera stuff that makes him look this good*
Me : *Oh boy you're talking about the #2 most handsome man in the decade*
I will always remember what I felt when watching this video. I was so happy that it brought me to tears, cause for me I interpreted this like a big FU to the people who criticize and think stereotypically of K-pop. Part of it was MV's done in green screens and more.
Lol I think a lot of people were waiting for this! This was great, thanks 🙏! It’s like watching the videos with you 😄 ooh really looking forward to your reaction to the dkdktv explains! The MV was kind of a response to their haters, and they all did things in the MV that they got hate for but seem random if you didn’t know, like RM using cute filters, V wearing glasses (wtf), Jimin doing fan dance (traditionally feminine), etc.
Idol is a crazy video, but definitely has meaning. Though, I can definitely never get enough of Taehyung’s expressions. I’m so glad you watched it!
Also V changing when he looks right and left😅 Imao
4:44 rabbit in korean : tokki . rhyming with 'talking'
that why they using ' moon rabit tale' as reference.
Hopefully you react the IDOL explanation from DKDKTV.
Because this mv has cultural reference.
thank you 💜
Yayyy!!! This was a great reaction, thank you!! You should watch "IDOL MV explained" by DKDKTV to understand the lyrics and the Korean references in the video that you didn't get. Borahae!! 💜
yes!
yes. i ve just wrote the same :D
I like your reaction. The basic thing to remember when watching/listening to BTS songs is that there are deeper meanings to the background and lyrics and what prompted them to write those songs. A lot of explanation by fans were put up in YT for people to understand the meaning of the songs. I ,for one, am amazed after knowing the messages behind those songs. I can say BTS is more than your regular Kpop group; they have substance , class, amazing talents and great personalities.
the live performances are crazy, the dance is very cool. They dance so hard once at music award show the stage and the area where the other artists were sitting was shaking. And at one of their concerts, they broke the stage! Literally broke it. The staff was holding the stage with their hands while they finish the song. You have to check out a live performance of Idol. :) I know you said dancing is not your thing, but this song is very uplifting and I think you will like it.
I Love it when he says... ALL RIght? Allright
After watching every mv....at last watch " we are bulletproof - eternal " every mv will be in this song....and it's a animation mv and I want you to react to tiny tan toooo
Thank you so much for reacting to IDOL!
I would definitely recommend watching an explanation before a Behind the Scenes for this MV, to help get the context. Because it has a strong one. While the lyrics is pretty self explanatory and is a powerful anthem of self love, the video is also filled with past song references, cultural references, and references to some of the criticisms they faced as a group or as individuals. Use of green screen, use of filters, wearing glasses, the cultural symbolism, everything here was intentional!
Hope you enjoy!
This music video incorporates many elements of korean culture, i love it, they are proud of who they are and they love themselves
I started cracking up when you went "Oh no... OH NOOO" 😂
So fun fact, the reason why they had the African background in the beginning is because the genre of the song is classified as GQOM with some Korean elements , it's a style from South Africa, it's also why the use the gwara gwara in the chorus. It was amazing for South African ARMY🇿🇦💜
Alot of other African moves were used througout the choreo too
I know your gonna watch the explanation but for more calcification, around this time (2018/2017) bts was starting to get popular in america so antis started to say that bts is too westernized now and they where saying that bts dont embrace their korean side so bts made a comeback to haters practically saying "I love myself and my culture and you haters cant stop me" they had a lot of traditional korean references in the vid.
Yay i was waiting for this. This MV was a big slap for those anti and a celebration for ARMY and BTS back then when it came out
IDOL was a heck of an era. I miss it.
the fact that the clip has graphics and a blue background - this is how it should be, this is the meaning of the clip.
i loved how you were looking panicked while smiling confusedly and just saying "oh no" haha
explanation of this song (and meanings behind symbols etc) made by DKDK TV is excellent
U should definitely react to bts idol MMA 2018 performance its huge u will love all the stuff with camera work etc ..
I'm loosing my shit with every OH NO Alex is throwing 😂😂😂😂
he's like, "what did I get myself into"
@@selinaa19 all the CGI got him shook😂😂
idol is the perfect example of "if they're using green screen, it is completely obvious"
I believe most of the comments will say go with the DKDKTV explanation video first, as most of YOUR reaction was "what was that" (the rabbit, the shark, basically everything haha). DKDKTV places the images, their movement, the lyrics, the dancing, the background, the beats, possibly even the reason for the song itself, into context. Then you can feel free to explore the shooting sketch (Bangtan Subs!!).
This video came out just when everyone was speculating that BTS was going to become more American driven because of their popularity in the US growing. It’s filled with so many Korean references it’s like they’re saying suck it to the critics.
The many faces was a reply to people saying they all look the same, as an insult
In many ways this video is a masterpiece. A clever middle finger to the haters, done as a visual feast for the eyes, with so much to look at and enjoy that you can watch it over and over without getting tired of it, along with a catchy really amazing song that has a clear message in line with the overall message BTS has been giving the world - love yourself and stop spending all your time hating on everyone else - which I wish more people would hear and take to heart. Maybe this world wouldn't be such a mess right now. It might not be done the same as many of their other videos, but I loved it and still do. I do appreciate your reactions, even with you might not care as much for an MV I love, and I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on this one.
I love that you observe a lot of things and connect them, I didn't even notice that giraffe before😳
Ikr? I was 🤯
yeeeeah, I was waiting for this!! This is the song that made me an army, and that's why it's one of my favs from the boys, I love it so much
explanation video!! :)
also they mixed a lot of south African culture in the video, song and dance moves as well. wanted to mention that because the explanation only talks about korean culture.
the suits are south African prints, the dance they do towards the end where theyre all in a straight line but multiplied thats the gwara gwara a south African dance. and the instrumental is mixed with Afro beats as well as traditional Korean instruments!!
Yaaaaaas fam the way I fell over when I heard the GQOM beat drop
1:51 yeeeeeeeeees..... that's probably my fav part of the video! He looks stunning there!
The fabrics used to make the members' suits are African fabrics. You see giraffe as it implies Africa. The beats of the song and the dance choreo incorporate some elements of African traditional music and dance. I guess this is BTS' way of showing their appreciation to African ARMYs 😊 for their support for BTS' music. Overall, of coz IDOL displays a lot of Korean traditional culture. If you Google Korean traditional folk dance/celebration, you will notice some of the elements that you kept asking "what is that?" in your reaction 😊
Shout out to every ARMY that remembers the SUGAR name tag XD
Thank you for your reaction as always :3
*look a giraffe* the very first thing you said while reacting- made me choke on my yoghurt
3:54
- is such a mood
This is the first BTS MV I ever saw. It got my attention!
Woahhh even i didnt realize the giraffe thereee
Your reactions are very informative and very helpful, students get a lot of insights from you. Aside from they're very evident of your interest to BTS. Being hooked to them is worthy of everything.
Idol 🤸♂💜
This was one of the first videos of theirs I watched when I first found them, watched it without context, without knowing anything at all about them as a band and what I took out of the video remains the same today, "Oh... ok so they seem to be saying, you don't like us and you make fun of us... well then let's click this up to eleventy."
When you said look at v he looks so good. I thought you were talking about something other than the cameras. I was shocked. Then you continued and yeah you meant the camera stuff 😂💜 love your reactions by the way
You should absolutely react to DKDKTV explanation because this video is full of incredible meaningful details. 💜
YESSSS IDOL!!
Please with explanation video of idol react to behind the scenes of all the BTS MVs you watched before ( Film out , epiphany and now idol ) . Loved your reaction . ☺️💜
There is a lot of meaning behind this music video. Really everything has a meaning and I think you should check out the explanation video for that
Now you definitely gotta react to the idol explained by dkdktv. I did watch this mv on the time of release when i didnot know anything about BTS and was not a fan of them. And just like you i had so many questions and kind of didnot appeal me to watch it once again. Fast forward 2020, i started looking closely to their music. The explanation video literally made the idol mv 1000x more enjoyable for me. Thats why as a fan i feel really proud whenever i go back to this mv. Btw i laughed a lot watching this reaction i could feel your confusion through the screen😆. Looking forward to more reaction.
SAME!!! to all u said!
I kept laughing so hard at this. 😂 "J-Hope looks like a car salesman" "Why is there a shark???" 😂
I love this video.. it reminds of me 'oh, you don't like this and that or this..? Here, let me throw EVERYTHING that you hate into one video.'
You have always been one of my favorite reactors because of how you interpret and appreciate the music video and the artists that you are reacting to.
I would recommend you to react to BTS' MMA 2019 live performance. This is so sick! Thank you so much. 😊
Guys we got it!!!! This song is so fun to sing!
I laughed so much seeing your confusion alex hahahaha i loved this
DKDKTV have a really good explanation including all the cultural references
you are right tho abt the song sounds like a celebration songs. In fact, IDOL is a song that tells story abt how bts celebrates and being confident in themselves as an idol singer. In korea, idols are not highly regarded and often look down compared to other jobs in the entertainment industry which is why bts are so vocal on highlighting about loving themselves and know who they are which is more important should be celebrate.
Finalllyyy!!
-Jungkook
Since many non kpop fans and antis say that kpop music videos are all cgi, BTS wanted to show them the difference between bad cgi and good cgi, and how they make the best out of the cgi they use in music videos(even though BTS usually very rarely use green screen)
the whole point of the video is to sort of embrace what haters say about the group, they just went full out chaotic because they could and because what haters would say about it wouldn’t affect them at all
guys i just rewatched the MV of " dope " and it's sooooo underrated 🤯🤯🤯, it looks like a one take 😵!!!!! the cuts are SO good that before when i wasn't familiar with members i could not tell if that person was just there with a different clothe but now in a 1s in other clothe😱 we need him to see it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lots of cultural references in IDOL. genius! 💜
It's kinda funny when you asked why was the rabbit in the moon, and my Chinese brain just automatically goes 'that's because there always were rabbits on the moon' without realizing it might be confusing to western audience.
Basically in east asian countries such as China, South Korea, and Japan (I cannot speak for others but at least I know these three), different variations of traditional folklores told a similar story of rabbits living on the moon. In Chinese we have the Moon Goddess Chang'e and her pet rabbit. The stories were somewhat connected with the Harvest Moon period (or full moon) of the year. We all have similar festivals regarding this, in China they're called the Mid-Autumn Festival, and in Korea they have Chuseok.
Last year Netflix has released an animated film called Over The Moon, and it was centred around the same Chinese tale, if anyone is interested to know more.
They have the Idol shooting sketch but you can also see their reaction to their mv, they were talking about some stuff which shooting sketch did't show
I was really waiting for Alex to react to Idol bcz its really different from what he has seen of BTS till date
YES!!! ANOTHER REACTION!!!💜💜💜💜
Watching Alex watch Idol is the most fun I’ve had in a long time 🤣
Love your videos! 💛
Thanks for the chuckles 😂
1:53 he is #1 most handsome man in the world and he win💜❤ Taehyung
You should watch the explanation and then the behind! both are a lot of fun :D
1:47 that's exactly how I fell in this BTS world
I remember this comeback, I completly lost my mind in that time haha
I suggest watching an explanation video😆
This mv had lots of traditional korean culture and also has a deep meaning
Finallyyyyyyyy....thank u for reacting on idol...now u should react to "Lights" and "Stay Gold"...💜
Your reaction is so funny, from start to finish I was smiling. 😁
FINALLYYYYYYY! 😊😊 One of my fave mv 😍 thank you for the reaction 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I really luv ur reaction!!🥺💜💜
I love this song VERY much! 😍😍😍 This clip is considered the "strangest" 😂😂😂
your reaction is so cute for this istg i love this music video its literally crack
I love idol sm🥺💜
The message of the MV is to their critics; You hate us? So we will put everything you criticize us in this video. But you know what? We love ourselves. I think it was very brave of them to confront their critics like that.
i love this video with my soul. i was so confused the first time i saw it but it all makes so much sense
I been waiting for this
💜💜💜
