    Your vlogs and journey to bottom surgery has inspired me to finally get the ball rolling on my own... Thank you so much for sharing and being vulnerable. All your videos have been eye opening and brought awareness to my own gender exploration. Plus a side note it's so neat and amazing to find that we share some esoteric and spiritual leanings. I was so excited and made my heart sing. Your so courageous and resilient. I'm looking forward to watching your journey.

      Omg that’s awesome!! I’m so glad my videos can help, and I’m so happy you’re feeling ready to move forward with your journey 💛 and omg I love that! It’s something I’ve delved more deeply into within the last year, I wasn’t sure if I’d feel comfortable talking about it but I felt like it was relevant so I decided to share. That makes me happy to hear we share the same spirituality. Thank you so much for reaching out 💛

      Bryn and Sam Downey are my heroes right now. I'm so happy you are emboldened by them just like I am. :)

    Also, I'm so glad to see you in your videos! The algorithm stopped recommending you for some reason. But I'm still subscribed! Anyway, you are a lovely presence in my life as an AMAB enby peer.

    Congrats on making it through. I will have my zero-depth surgery next month, and it would be nice if you could share about what you were able to do on your own at what time point. For example, when were you able to walk, drive, cook, etc. Thanks.

      First of all, good luck with surgery!!! I hope it all goes smoothly for you! In regards to functioning after surgery, I’d say the first week home I stayed in bed all day. The first time I left home was for my post op appointment (about a week and a half after surgery). After about two weeks I was able to walk enough to cook and stuff around the house. I think after about 2-3 weeks was the first time I went grocery shopping. I had to walk really slowly and was still kinda waddling lol but I made it through (tho I probably should’ve waited). At 3 weeks I started driving, but I used a donut pillow or else my vagina would hurt. After a month I was good to basically function on my own. I still didn’t do a whole lot though. And at 6 weeks was when I went back to work (I’m a hair stylist). Tho I did get really tired afterwards and had to rest the next day.

      @@brynavery Thank you very much for sharing. My grad school will start 52 days after surgery, so I want to make sure I have enough time to recover. I think my recovery will be easier than yours, but I don’t know by how much. Hope it goes well.

    Can I ask a practical question about using the bathroom? Bottom surgery is something I'm considering as a "one day" option, but seeing your videos make it seem like maybe a "one day soon if possible" option.

    • @brynavery
      @brynavery  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes you can ask! That makes me so happy 💛

      Lol, okay, here we go! I do realize that your discretion in word choice might be due to monetization or other algorithm shenanigans, but I'll try to be discrete here just in case.
      So I know people with "innie" parts should clean the rear exit front-to-back for obvious reasons. I go the other way because I feel like I need to sit very far back for the outie not to miss and get everywhere. Too far back for innie-friendly cleanup.
      I know you are new to having an innie, but like when you sit, are you sitting differently? In a way that would facilitate front-to-back cleaning of the rear exit?
      Maybe I just buy a bidet attachment if I get bottom surgery!

    • @brynavery
      @brynavery  Před 2 lety

      @@queens.dee.223 oh, you can be vulgar in the comments if you want, I’m just discreet in my video because don’t want my video to get demonetized. Uhm, so as for sitting on the toilet, I’ve been sitting down to pee ever since I came out as trans. I don’t think I moved my position (maybe a little further back than I was sitting pre op. But I wipe by going between my legs and patting myself going towards the back. Right now actually wiping hurts because I sting a little bit down there. So maybe it’ll change once I’ve healed. I still wipe from the back if I pooped tho lol.

      @@brynavery Thank you! I've been sitting to pee basically forever, so foreshadowing? Anyway, I've heard cis women talk about how wiping toward the back after pooping helps prevent yeast infections. Those do not sound fun! I'm wondering if that would be true for people who've had bottom surgery like you and maybe one day me.

    Hi Bryn 😊 I just got a question... So when did you reach out to the surgeon for consultation? After you got your letters and such? I still have to get my letters from my main therapist, hormone doctor and looking to see a PhD level Therapist.

    • @brynavery
      @brynavery  Před 2 lety

      If I remember correctly, I got my letters after setting up the consultation, but I know I had let my therapist know (she was a gender therapist and we’d talked a lot about surgery before I actually decided to move forward with it) that I was looking for a surgeon, so she had the letter already typed up when I made the consultation, she just had to address it to him. My psychiatrist worked closely with my therapist so I think she knew as well. And I had a letter from my CF doctors from a while before I found my surgeon. I think I got my letter from my hormone doctor before setting up a consultation too. Some surgeons won’t set up consults until you have your papers. I’d call around to surgeons offices that you’re interested in and see what they require. Hope that helps! 😊
