    A few years ago I developed sciatica in my left leg. The onset was sudden and painful. So I made an appointment with the first orthopedist I could find. Which turned out to be a mistake. He was not only completely useless, he lacked any empathy or compassion for his patients. X-rays showed that I have a bulging disc in my spine that is pressing on the sciatic nerve. i did everything that was asked of me and everything that you suggest. I even tried an inversion table. But, nothing helped. My pain was a constant five. Sometimes as much as a 7 or 8. When you are in that much pain, you can't even sleep. And, of course, doctors won't prescribe pain medication now. So, your life stops and everything revolves around the pain. But, one day after about a year of living with it I woke up and thought the pain wasn't as bad. Then it got better. I can still feel the pain a little, but it's not nearly as severe as it was. My main concern now is to not do anything that will make the pain return.

    Just ran across your videos this past week. I've been successfully using a halfway folded pillow (in a triangle shape) under my right knee/upper leg while in bed for months - glad to see this video. Might give the third position a try if that no longer works. Thanks for all you do for us in your many videos!

    Super knowledgeable videos Dr. My MRI showed l4-l5 disc protrusion to the left and severe pain running down my left leg which was intolerable in any position so had my laminectomy -discectomy past a month now. But still the numbess is there in both toes and I feel a little sciatica pain behind the left knee sometimes actually very often. Are these the recovery symptoms or a possibility of reherniation? Please advise

    • @KBradAdams
      @KBradAdams Před rokem +1

      I am no doctor but assume it is the L5/S1 disc. I had the same thing, L4/L5 discectomy then L5/S1 started acting up. Keep the pain above the knee and take it easy and you should be ok. I just had my 3rd operation and 2nd fusion about a month ago. I could never find a position that would ease the sciatic pain. A year after my discectomy I tried to workout one day, 3 days later my back hurt and I sneezed and ruptured the disc again, I hate to say it but it was worse than the first time... the pain I mean... Good luck and take it easy...

  • @roses9339
    @roses9339 Před rokem +1

    I've been fused from L1-L5, the 1st was L4/5 which was "catastrophic" according to my surgeon. The Kage disengaged and I needed to have emergency surgery to remove all the metal which was entangled in the nerves on the right side. Would you recommend that the 3rd position be used in bed during the night? Of course finding something that would enable this position will be a challenge. Cheers Rosemary Perth Western Australia 72 yrs

      I've got an adjustable bed and it really relieves my back. I have my legs raised and the top raised a bit as well which just about gives that position. I sleep much more comfortably. I think most bed shops sell them.

    There are times when no position will eliminate sciatic pain! You want to have your leg cut off.. it is so bad... I used to have my wife pull on my leg. It felt like it would eliminate the pain but it rarely did. Ended up getting discectomy and ruptured it again. Then had fusion...
