Hey Twister Fans! We have finally uploaded our Twister Museum video. We see a screen used Jo's Jeep, screen used Dorothy I, meet a couple of the actors from the movie, and see all of the amazing things the museum has collected over the years. Check it out here: czcams.com/video/5x1zgR5E6ZE/video.html
Only just found your channel. Channel's like yours are worth their weight in gold. Thanks for the work and content sir.
On your way too or heading back from Maysville, ya should have made a stop at the University of Oklahoma. They have both Dorthy 1 and 2 on display, along with other "Twister" memorabilia. I still enjoyed the video.
I took a road trip to Wakita 5 years ago, just to see the village up close and personal. I found it fascinating that its real history is very unlike that depicted in the movie: Wakita has never been hit by a twister once in over 100 years. There is something about an ancient Native-American spell cast over the land, shielding it from tornado hits. I saw the museum there but did not go in; it was March, so it wasn't open for the season yet.

Fun fact. Twister was the first movie ever released on DVD.

25 years?! Wow. I remember seeing this when it came on in theaters as a kid and what an experience! and Bill Paxton... man, do we miss you!!!!!
Ya gotta love this movie. No sequel, no prequel, it’s all in here. The 90’s turned out a lot of forgettable-unforgettable movies and this could take the cake.
I agree. That’s a perfect way to describe Twister.
One year later we're getting a sequel. lol. You willed it into existence.
Coming in 2024 lol
@whitetigergrowl Dude you literally beat me to this comment by THREE HOURS lol
I love this movie. It's so camp, but in the best possible way. Used to watch it on endless repeat for a random semi-autistic obsessive puzzle challenge I put myself into. "Can I do a complete jigsaw puzzle in the span of one movie?" (It happened to be Twister.) Uh... no. ...I know, watch it again!! ...and again... and again...
No idea how many times it took, but by the end, Twister was my go-to puzzle watching movie. 😂 (I was bored as a child.)
Yeah...about that.
The actual tornado that hit the grain silos in the bridge scene occurred on the 14 year anniversary (May 10, 2010) of the release of the movie Twister. It was just one of 42 tornadoes to occur that day. Other tornadoes touched down near Wakita, OK.
Awesome info, Greg! Thank you for sharing! I had read about that tornado at some point, but was beginning to wonder if I’d remembered it incorrectly or made it up altogether in my head, haha! Glad to have confirmation 🙏.
“You used to be able to match up the silos and tree line here but an actual tornado came through and took it all out.”
As an Okie and Twister lover, I must say, that might be the best description of Oklahoma that I’ve ever heard. A film about chasing tornadoes captures footage of real world locations that will be destroyed by a real tornado within a quarter century of its filming.
I read an old article interviewing Kathleen Kennedy who was a producer on Twister. They asked her why they chose Oklahoma to film there and she was like “it’s Oklahoma…” 😂
Nah. The tornado just wanted to remember when it took part of the movie and returned to location. It was nostalgic...

When COVID is over I totally wanna take a trip like this!!! Twister was my life and still is my favourite movie
It’s totally worth it!!!
the ending was made in my home town in iowa
The scene diner scene and tire shop was filmed in maysville Oklahoma just south of Norman Oklahoma the tire shop is still there but the diner is gone but you can make out the floor tiles of where it was also the flag pole is still there in the distance the same one bill looks at when he says going green
I know the movie word for word lol

I appreciate how well you matched up the movie stills with real life. So many of these movie scene people do not do that, and they are like 20 miles off from the movie, and it drives me up the wall, as well as it's so confusing especially when you're dealing with 30-45 year old movies.

Everyone around me was so sick of this movie cause I was watching it constantly it was a big part of my childhood. I miss you Bill 😢
Hard to believe it’s been 25 years. This was a must see movie as a high school senior, because of my interest in tornadoes and my love of VH. I still watch it every time it’s on tv.
I just checked on IMDB, and Lois Smith, the lady that played Aunt Meg, is still living, the only main actors that have passed away are Bill Paxton & Philip Seymour Hoffman
Wow! She is 90 now!

Twister was definitely an awesome movie. I hope they rerelease it to theatres this year, so that way my niece and nephews can enjoy the same movie-watching experience i had when it first came out. I'm saddened by the fact that Bill Paxton and Philip Seymour Hoffman are not with us to celebrate this movie theater masterpiece.

“Bob’s Road” is my favorite!
The movie used some scenes from when the Tornado hit Edmonton in 1987, known as Black Friday July 31,1987. They used news footage from that event. My house had it's roof & siding tore off. My shed was blown away. Worst thing I have ever lived though. Scary!
I think that might have been when Pennsylvania had it's largest known tornadoes.

That sounds terrible! I can't even imagine what I'd do if that happened. An EF4 passed a few miles from our apartment last year. That was scary enough!

This movie was an awesome experience in the theater back in the day. Nonetheless, rest in peace to Bill Paxton, and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
This is one of my favorite movies. Thanks for doing this video. This movie got me interested in severe weather and storm chasing. Still chasing to this day when I have time when I’m not working or fishing.
Th is incredible. Really reopened some fond memories of this beloved movie that I’ve seen an almost embarrassing amount of times, lol. Thank you for this!!!
Hahaha, there is never too much Twister!
The last sequence in the movie, the F5 tornado....that scene was filmed just 10 minutes aways from me in Eldora, IA. That now famous Victorian house, what we call the 'Twister House' is still there. It's been restored to a beautiful blue color. Look it up sometime.
I’ve got a map of all the spots in Iowa, so we’re excited to hit those eventually!
I always tell my Twister story. Back when it came out, my older brother and 1 of my younger brothers went to see it in the theatre. It was the late afternoon movie. Once we got outside from the movie, the tornado sirens were going off. A small tornado touched down in Fairmont, MN out in a field. It was during the classic car show in a town just north of us. It was awesome. Way to tugg on the emotions Going to the Movies :). Great video.
Haha! Thank you for sharing that story, kootybear. And, glad you enjoyed the video! I got rear ended on the way to see Whiplash several years ago. It definitely augmented the experience! 😂
My brothers loved this film as kids. We rented it at movie rental store and watched it over and over.
In reference to the scene shot just outside of Ames Iowa where the f5 spared to ranch house, and you see the family coming out of the storm cellar after it passes. My sister in law was supposed to play the part of the ranchers wife, but was sick on the day of shooting and got her friend to fill in for her.
I was also a one time storm chaser, as a member of Sky Warn. While Twister showed the life of a chaser in realistic ways...... the movie made it seem like every storm dropped a tornado. A real chaser can go a whole season if not more and never see a tornadic storm.
I've had no storm chasing experience, but I always thought the amount of tornados they saw within 24 hours was absurd, haha!
@@GoingtotheMovies LOL yeah it was...and they were ALWAYS huge tornadoes, which of course is not the case. However, I DO understand, that if they hadn't exaggerated a bit, the movie would have been dull. AND there have been historical outbreaks, so it COULD have been possible. I really enjoyed your video, Twister is my personal favorite! You did a fantastic job of finding all those key sites, and I for one, appreciate all the time and effort you put it in to it!
Just to add, seven tornadoes did strike the Grand Island, NE area in one night on June 3, 1980..... so guess Twister can get away with it. Sorry, I will hush now, tornadoes just get me fired up! LOL
Haha! They are really cool! If you heard about the big one in Nashville last year, that one passed by my apartment. Only a couple miles away 😬
This was so well done and it was an excellent walk down memory lane. Like so many others, Twister was one of my favorite films as a kid; I still have my VHS, lol. Thanks for your dedication and hard work.

One of my favorite and also most watched movies. I watch it at least once every year. Always on a hot day with thunderstorms in the air. Tonight is such a night where I live, so you know what that means: Twister time!
🔥🌪🔥
I worked Security for several sites in Iowa when filming was here.
We provided security over night; I worked 12 hr shifts 7pm to 7am.
Two stick out.
Pilot Mound, Iowa: Where the hail scene was filmed with Bill in the back of the truck. There was a mile long strip of two lane road blocked off and I drove from end to end each hour or so.
The road was "debrised' as if a tornado had come though; very surreal driving that in pitch darkness.
Tidbit - one lane of the road had less debris to facilitate travel.
Cambridge, Iowa: Where the semi tanker explosion scene was filmed.
The fake semi-tractor/tanker (more on that later) was suspended about 25 feet in the air for the drop the next day and pre-wired with 'explosives' - prima-cord only as I recall.
I was warned to drive on the opposite side of the road from the setup in case it 'went off', lol.
Minor lightening in the area that night - thought for sure I would see a personal show!
Didn't happen.
The Tractor body was real on a steel cage. The tanker was very thin sheet metal.
Tires and wheels were very dense foam and plastic.
Next day they blew it - I was at home in bed sleeping...missed it.
Next night; I was back as they hadn't cleaned it up yet.
I took a mud flap, small section of 'tanker' and a head light assembly as souvenirs.
Still have them today.
Awesome! That must have been an incredible experience. Is it true that they accidentally didn't film the explosion the first time?
@@GoingtotheMovies
I've heard that they shot the scene twice (and had two tanker trucks built) but at my location there was only one tanker and the associated debris.
So, if it was shot twice the first was another location and the second attempt was here since that is where shooting was scheduled?
It was also at this location where the scene was shot where the antennae post/structure went through the windshield impaling the guys.
Very interesting rig made for that scene.
All on a flatbed to be pulled - truck 'airborne' position and a ram holding the steel structure to punch it through the windshield.
I remember seeing this movie in theaters as a kid! Cant believe it's been 25 years. Still love this movie though!

For the lake/Water spouts scene, the power poles are new, they have been changed to Hendrix constructions. It's an insulated wire used to prevent the wires clashing toghter by trees and wind in storms.
I was working at the Guthrie airport when they filmed there. I would go down there during lunch and see what all they were building. I missed out being there the night that did the filming. They let the public watch from across the tracks towards downtown. They came to the airport and bought jet fuel. IIRC, they had a semi trailer with a jet engine or two to use to give them the wind that needed for the tornado scene.
Wow, Patrick! Thanks for sharing that. Considering how much ISN’T there now compared to what was there in the movie, I bet that must have been a crazy time in Guthrie. I wish I could’ve seen it!

Thank you for this video.. My Dad and I were always in awe of storms... He was funny as during the movie he would keep saying "They should not be alive"... LOL
One of the best movies ever made ( my husband and I think )
It's a good'n, Tina!
I wish everyone did film locations videos like this. This is amazing. Thank you!
Wow, Troy, that is so awesome to hear! I’m glad you liked it and there are many more to come!
Your amazing! I watched this film so much as a 90s kid on Vhs. Always loved Helen, Bill and the whole cast. Im from NT Australia ❤ 🇦🇺 I resonated with this film as a kid so much because of the Top end Australian Wet season Cyclones and Monsoons where I was born and lived. Loved that the film always instilled. Mother nature is the most powerful. And now more than ever we must take care of our precious earth. 🌏 Always the best film cast and story! *7:34 Got emotional where Bill stood 🕊Rest in peace. Amazing work on showing the locations!
Twenty-five years ! What a fabulous advert for the new Dodge Ram truck too ! That truck was the real star. When we got home from our first viewing I told the wife I'm going to get that truck 😅
My dad must’ve seen it around the time it was released cause that was about the time he bought a red Dodge Ram as well 😂
That movie sold more Dodge trucks than Motor Trend, seriously.
Did you get the truck?
If you go over the hill behind where the Cafe used to be, you will run into the house I grew up in. I grew up in Maysville, and was there for part of the filming (I think I was at church camp one of the weeks). I am not surprised the cafe is gone, it was vacant for many years after, and was a bar for a short period of time. It was pretty run down.
Was gorgeous tho.
I was there a week ago was sad to see the Cafe gone some of the floor tiles are still there the tire shop in the movie is still there just a different color now and the flag pole in the distance is still there
