    I feel like a lot of the original arrangement is lost with the addition of new elements. Doesn’t make it bad, though. It’s a kind of arrangement I’d expect on a cool fan jazz cover or something, not a remake. There was this cool exotic, foreign vibe, with modal sounds emphasized by bass pedals, and that percussion sound, and now those drums, along with movements in the bass line and other instruments, kinda kill it to me. I’d love to hear a more faithful version with realistic instrument sounds, like on that awesome fiddle solo, but honestly, the original still sounds great, so it makes sense they made a bolder change.
    Also, for some reason, Paper Mario now has to have realistic trumpet sounds (which is not bad, but kinda funny)

Realizing that we’re getting a Rogueport with such a different feel to it is, to be honest, just a little bit disappointing, but it doesn’t take from the awesomeness of the mere existence of this game, and the actual effort to build a whole new arrangement (it would probably be a lot easier to do a faithful arrangement, but they didn’t go with that). For those who don't know, the biggest deciding factor for if your ticket was a winner was how long you held onto it. I forget the exact numbers, but I seem to remember you had to wait years for your ticket to be a winner.

  • @Evanpianomaster
    @Evanpianomaster Před 10 dny

    I think I nailed down why I heavily prefer the original.
    The original uses many ethnic instruments in almost every section, and it gives a very uneasy but satisfying vibe of unfamiliarity. This whole region is completely new to Mario in the game, and that gives the song restlessness. That ethnic uneasiness, really drives home that Mario is also in a DANGEROUS new hub world, a town full of crime with a literal noose as one of the first things introduced to us in the game.
    The new remaster does the opposite. It has very minimal ethnic sounds, and leans into more of the fact that its a grand ship port... which sure it has. But I'd expect that type of thing in a town thats really focused into harbors, fishing, and an economically wealthy trading town... which Rogueport isn't. The remaster only includes those ethcnic instruments when it really has to, for the sake of the melody using some foreign scale.
    Overall, its still a really good song, but mainly as a remix. It doesn't fit the town's theme as well as the original GC version.

    two totally different vibes. the remake sounds amazing and epic, i think it would work better as a battle theme! the old version i think matches the dingy vibes of rogueport better, especially with the tone being more relaxed. makes way more sense since the gameplay here is kind of just the inbetween parts of the adventure, rather than this epic moment that the remake makes it out to be. it is a bit of an odd choice to me adding those fast paced drums and all those horns, it just makes the tone very grand. i'm not against it being that way but it's definitely a change from the original vibe.
    cuz lets be honest, if this was actually MEANT to be a battle theme, i think we'd all be so hyped about this remix! and i definitely still am extremely hyped about it. it sounds fucking amazing.
    i can tell its the same composers as color splash and origami king which i am SO excited for because those soundtracks fucking slap, so the original soundtrack being as good as it already is, the remake ost is gonna be absolute FIRE.

And the guitar doesn't blend too much with the rustic fantasy-adventure feel that rogueport has in the GameCube version.
