@@brandonmusick77 I'd assume there'd likely be rats, & possibly even raccoons, opossums, snakes, & other types of smaller swamp fare down there. It kinda depends on how exactly the environment outside of the structure connects with the environment inside the structure. Just because those kids could only find or only knew of one spot where they could enter doesn't necessarily mean there aren't others, possibly hidden from sight, where other critters can find their way into the building.

Story 2 the guy really should have reported his findings to the police. Since he was actually committing a crime he could do it anonymously, but he shouldn't have just left it all alone.

Agreed. Hopefully it's just a fake story. All of these three stories say "unverified reddit post" on the bottom before he starts talking about each. A lot of people like to practice writing by anonymously writing fictional horror stories on reddit.
Especially when all of those papers that were plastered on the wall saying “SHE GOTTA RUN”! It most definitely was a serial killer who must’ve been living down there and they were only killing girls. That’s probably the only reason he got away. That story could’ve closed a lot of missing women’s cases.

Story 2 - Kurt is like the "dumb blond" from a scary movie. Visits an old abandoned building on his own at night & gets baited down to the basement unphased by the creepy music that just randomly starts playing🤦♀️

If you’re in an abandoned building and you hear voices, music or basically anything that isn’t you. Walk in the opposite direction. Not towards the stranger danger.
This, so much this. Even if it was just squatters and not something paranormal that doesn't necessarily mean there's no danger...
Grow some balls. I can say that because I been in some of the most haunted places in the world and if your really adventurous then such it is. Death is a part of life
You do you man, death may be part of life but that doesn't mean I'm about to endanger my life intentionally. Not saying I wouldn't explore such places, just means I'll make sure to bring protection(a gun/etc depending on what I expect to find) and avoid doing anything stupid.
"stranger danger" has to be the most embarrassingly self absorbed term I've ever heard. If you don't know them, that is dangerous - - never mind that as everyone knows, it's the people you know who kill you.
If you have a thought with several details in it. Use commas. Not periods.

That last story was more than likely an alligator. Alligators love dark and murky water and can be found in very obscure places. Now being in an abandoned hospital it was probably very hungry and was hoping to get a meal out of one of the boys.
That could be a good explanation of what was going on and if an Alligator swam up on me I would grab it by the face and wrestle with it and then call animal control and police to get the thing out of there.
Explains why all stealth went out the window.

You rlly think you can beat an alligator that’s like 6 foot+ and has a mouth larger than your head? And that’s when it’s closed. Also strong enough to wack you into the water and tear you apart limb by limb. Have fun being minced meat.

Mike's a lycanthrope, he lured Pete down that tunnel to his "kill chamber" where he planned to kill and eat Pete. But while Mike transformed in the darkness to his lycan self to attack Pete, Pete wandered through obliviously and down the next passage. Werewolf Mike eventually charged down the passage toward Pete, who barely escaped out the metal door. Mike changed back to human form and hauled his now-less-hairy ass back out the other way and when Pete called all in a bother, played it off like "Dude, I was up topside eating a sandwich, what were you smoking?" 😉😁

I'd LOVE more of these in a complete series, Mr. Ballen! There's not nearly enough of them and they're fascinating! As a woman the latest murder-based podcast exclusives have been difficult to hear about, and I always admired that your content was different than the oversaturated male predator violence market out there. It'd be great to hear more strange, dark & mysterious surrounding non-violent experiences or at least less male on female violence. I'd personally love to hear more haunted/legitimately terrifying places, abandoned places, etc.! Your content is so fresh and unique- I know you can bring a lot of great tales to your loyal audience :)

The inexplicable part in the third story is that before going into the murky water, three boys changed into old clothes they didn't mind ruining.

I mean, when I was a teenage boy, my hair and clothes were absolutely 100% my top priority in any and all situations. I wouldn't have ruined clothes I care about.
Growing up in the countryside I'd always throw on old clothes with the actual intention to ruin them. When Mr.Ballen said this about the boys I got a hit of nostalgia, not only would I do it for these sort of reasons (you never know what exploring the unknown is going to require) I also remember the feeling of excitement I'd have putting them on. Like whatever this adventure throws at me I'm ready. Of course you'd need more than old clothes to fend of an alligator but that's the way my child brain worked haha
How is it inexplicable? They were 12 years old. And probably didn’t want their parents to yell at them for getting their good clothes dirty. So they put on some old clothes to explore. I’m sure they weren’t expecting an alligator to appear. They were dumb 12 year old boys 🤷🏽♀️

About 30 years ago I worked at a warehouse in Cato NY. Often I would be there alone in the middle of the night alone. We didn't use the 3rd floor so I decided to investigate one night. When I reached the top of the stairs I heard someone running away. I searched the place and found no one. Scary times!
Was it light or heavy sound? Maybe it was a rat/mouse. Or a stray dog/human. Anyway, scary!
@MeowingCat835 most definitely running person(heavy). Probably homeless and and knew where to hide, I was gonna offer them some food, but couldn't find anyone. Definitely scared me.
I was doing electrical work one time and I spent all day by myself upstairs. When it was only an hour or two left before I was done, I was taking a break and looking around, and there was an old fiberglass shower liner almost completely up against the wall and I poked my head around just to see it and there was somebody sitting in there staring me directly in the eyes as I peered around the corner. It was just a homeless person but it scared the absolute shit out of me because I didn't expect anybody to be there. They had to have been sitting there silently for about 5-6 hours because nobody came in or out while I was up there, and I even ate my lunch up there by myself.
@stephenh4177 I'm pretty sure it was a homeless person I encountered. Before giving up the search I yelled saying I had food I'd share if they were hungry. Ghost, or homeless..... still scay 💩

The last story was definitely an alligator. I'm from New Orleans and lived there during Katrina. All kinds of wild life got washed into these buildings due to all the flooding. This gator was probably starving since it was trapped and that is why it chased them.

It could've been hungry, but I don't think it was starving. There are plenty of rats and shit in abandoned buildings like that. The gator would've still gone after them like that if it wasn't starving.
Good thing it kept rushing them instead of using stealth mode.
Gator for sure, given that the story takes place in Louisiana, lots of water in the building and, "Large horizontal silhouette." Immediately made me think, alligator. Honestly that sounds scarier to me then any ghost or spirit in that building.

If Kurt's story is real, and he was truly convinced he found a serial killer's lair I'm pretty mad he didn't call the police.
Right?? Me too! If there were dozens of VHS tapes with girls names on them, I’d be calling the police for them to go check that shit out. Pretty disappointing.
I can understand that Kurt might have hesitated to call the police for fear of getting in trouble with his dad but if he’d described the situation anonymously to the authorities it might have initiated at least a cursory investigation. Actually, maybe he did and it all came to nothing.

The first story reminded me of the novel The Wolfen by Whitley Strieber. Some large canine that can imitate human sounds and hunts humans foolish enough to go off on their own is an absolutely terrifying idea.

What they did was the equivalent of pulling the blanket over your head when you think you hear something in the room at night. It does nothing if something actually wants to hurt you, but it puts your mind slightly at ease so it feels better to do that.

I was deployed to New Orleans after Katrina hit and I saw some scary stuff. I also saw so much that still bothers me to this day. It also makes me think about the movie "Stalker"

True story of a college friend: she was in an older medical building for her toddler son’s doctor’s appointment. On the way out the son wants to take the elevator. They go from the 2nd to the 1st floor, at which point the elevator jerks, then falls into the basement. The elevator is now tilted and as she is pressing the buttons (which do nothing) she hears a weird noise. Then water starts sweeping into the bottom of the elevator...they had fallen onto a water main. She manages to pry the door open, at which point the water is knee deep. She carries her son out, up a flight of stairs and back to the doctor’s office to say what happened. As she goes back down, the water had reached the top couple stairs leading back down to the basement. She later found she had a tibial plateau fracture from the fall, but was just thankful she did not drown or get electrocuted with her son. Happened in NJ about 14 years ago.

I wrote about it because I believed the advertising of “elevators are super safe - they don’t fall like in the movie, etc.”. They are safe in general, of course, but if my friend hadn’t experienced it I wouldn’t even think that kind of accident was possible.

There is one story of his that I cannot get out of my head, especially at night when I want to go to sleep. It's the story of the cave explorer who dives down a terribly narrow tunnel, going further and further, the tunnel getting tighter all the time until he gets to a 90 degree bend going downwards. The explorer is certain that this tunnel leads to a large cavern so he goes head first over the ledge...... and finds a dead end ! But now he is so stuck that even expert SAR cannot get him back out......! This story gives me nightmares just imagining the situation.......!

You should look into the history of some older cities. Where I live in Chattanooga TN has an entire secret underground world where the city used to be 2 stories lower but because of flooding they built the entire city up 20-30 feet with rubble and debree, but leaving most of the old tunnels/sewers and basements of the old buildings still fully intact. Most of the entrances are gated off and underground in the basements of these older buildings. But lemme tell ya, going down there is a spookfest. Mostly just mice, spiders and such. But the sounds man, the sounds..

We've got a small city under us in Columbus Ohio.
It's a huge underground parking system.
Most don't even know about it. I live down here and can feel it. When big trucks go by or they are drilling. It feels like you're on a bridge in a wind storm.. you can feel the slight vibrations and swaying.
It's taken me years to get used to and I still game to stop myself and remind myself

I grew up in a basement lol much nicer than ground floor dwellers.
When I was a kid, I was scared of basements because in 1979 I had my first and only sighting of a ghost in our very own basement. The house was built in 1906 and had an unremarkable history but on that fateful day I was doing something in the workshop alone. I heard something, and looked up to see an old man with a terrified expression on his face running towards me with a flashlight. The whole sighting lasted just one second or so, but I was scared as hell. For years afterwards I would force my brother to go downstairs with me anytime I wanted to use the workshop. My theory was that maybe this old man saw ME as a ghost in HIS timeline in the 1930s or 40s because somehow our timelines intersected in that one instant. I assumed he was from the 30s because he had this worker's hat on (not sure how to describe it, like a puffy baseball cap).
