- In this Video I will take you through the process of making a Walnut thumb hole gun stock for your airgun. This is part 1 of a two part series. Part 2 shows how to finish your gun stock with Tru-Oil.
I lowered the volume during electric tool runs to make this video easier to listen to.
The quality will be remembered long after the price is forgotten, Price being work not money. You have a thing of beauty there, nice craftsmanship.
Thank you!
That is not "pretty nice" it is exceptionally beautiful.
To do this you did not only require skill but also a lot of patience and courage - one small slip could have been disastrous. You now have probably the best stock in the world for an ATI Nova Liberty - you should be very proud. There will be many people envious of you.
Hey Paul, thank you! Yes, there where a few times where I thought I might ruin the stock but definitely taking it slow worked out Ok.

I'm only 20 minutes through this video so far, but I'm impressed by the level of detail shown. I've been tempted to try and make my own stock, but this really gives me confidence to try. Keep 'em coming.
Never have I watched an hour long "how to" video till today! I must say WOW! that stock is absolutely beutiful! My hat is off to you!
I do not comment on many videos, but I have to on this one. First off, this video deserves WAY more views. Secondly, VERY WELL DONE AND GREAT CRAFTSMANSHIP! I am so impressed. I am an engineer who designs things for a living, and your dedication to both the engineering aspects and the "architect" aspects are so honorable. I will be attempting to do the same now with a .22 LR, completely thanks to you. Thank you so much for doing this long, in-depth video!
The length of this video is just like a Hollywood movie, and I have seen this video more than 3 times with out any skipping.
Wow! I enjoy watching people who can craft and you did an excellent job. You made it seem so easy, too. The screw holes in the stock match up with the rifle action really well. Very impressed. Thank you for sharing.
You have just given me one of the best videos I have ever had….I wanted to see some how to on making a stock and I want to say thank you for taking the time to give us this…..it is invaluable and much appreciated.
Thank you for the kind words. Glad it's helpful
There ain't nothing better than homemade. Well done sir!!!!
Beautiful work.Well done,I love it!
Thank you for giving me something worth to watch while I'm healing from a stomach surgery,a lot of great inspiration for when I get well.
Great channel ! Keep up the good work.
Cheers from Sweden
Very nice work bud. You are a man of many talents. 👍
Thank you Rick. Hope all is well. Love to everyone
It is 100 percent awesome buddy. Im amazed how perfect and beatiful it turned out. And now you know why they cost so much because of all the labor involved. GREAT JOB.
When I say this I really mean it. I am impressed. The first time I seen your stock I thought you may have purchased it. When I asked you in a previous comment. You said that you had made it yourself. I don't know how I missed this video but I'm glad I got to see it. You're a hell of a woodworker!!! Awesome!!! Awesome job brother. From NM stay warm brother. Lol 👍✌🇺🇸
The excitement you are in looks great. I ve been there an got the same feeling making my hw100 stock.Good job.
Just in the first 10 seconds, I said, wow that is a thing of beauty.
Perfect job. I am really looking forwards to surface finish video. And I agree, chisel is one of the most useful tools.
That's a fine achievement. Your videos are very informative and well made.
Your ambition is nothing short of astounding! Great job my friend. Love the videos glad to see you back in action!
Thank you!
Simply awesome! Just what I was looking for! Thanks for sharing.
You made me realize what guns can do and what you can make them be. Thank you for that.
Now I wanna make a nice grey laminate stock and get the best value for money air rifle that I can find.
That is GORGEOUS!! Absolutely a work of art.
Awesome Video.
You Sr have done a outstanding job on that stock. You do so much to help others in every thing you do and ask for nothing in return. You are very detailed to walk people through every step of the way and even revising your videos to tell people that something may not be correct and how to correct it. You put a lot of time and passion into every video you upload. Again the stock looks amazing.
Thank you Mike for recognizing that. I do get pleasure when I help others. I like to pass it on. What goes around comes around.
Came out incredible! Thanks for sharing.
This video being 4 years old I have no idea why Google recommended this video to me. The algorithms are so messed up. Nicely done, yes stocks are very expensive and you did a marvelous job. Even modifying a stock to accept an action comes with compromises. The most underrated wood tool I have in my wood shop is that Rigid oscillating sander. If you can find one buy it!
I would caution everyone to wear a respirator when doing sanding. All fun and games when you can't breathe anymore and some wood species are caustic to lungs.
Having a Rifle action fit too snugly can affect accuracy. The two bolts that secure your rifle to the stock are hugely important and torque settings can affect accuracy.
From someone who owns an Anschutz 1813 Super Match and a Remington 40x I have some experience in that area.
Brilliantly explained, and the finished product looks great , many thanks Shane uk 🇬🇧
The way you work hard to get your work done is commendable.
Lots of Love from Pakistan👌👌👌❤️❤️❤️
I've enjoyed your videos on the Liberty so much i bought the synthetic one with the aim of re- stocking it myself. The end result is a much nicer rifle which is a pleasure to shoot with. Thanks for the inspiration.
I'm glad I was able to help.
Amazing video!!! One of the best airgun channels on YT. Congrats
now that's craftmenship kudos to you. thanks for the video and the inspiration.
You should post or even sell the stencils and measurements. Genius, what a talent thankyou for sharing.
Thay looks awesome. Major improvement. You take tinkering to a professional level. 😀
Wow, very impressive. Nice job, making this by hand must have been very satisfying.
Thank you! Yes, I love this gun even more now.
I have to say it again it's an amazing work that rifle looks Great.
Nice work. You are awesome, with wood my friend. I wish I had the space to have a nice workshop like yours. Well dome! That air rifle is officially upgraded.
I have been looking for someone to make a video like this thanks. One day I will take this journey and make my own stock for various rifles I have.
Glad to help. rewarding project.
Well done, awesome craftmanship!
Thanks for the video, much needed. I pre ordered the Air Venturi Avenger and was in the same situation as yourself. It's pushed back until September now. I guess I'll build my courage up to try it when I get it. Thanks Sir!!!
Thats great! Good luck. Just take it slow and you will be fine.
Fits better than polymer stock. Great job.
Nice work. My favourite one. Thanks for your time and efforts.
That is one sweet stock and your attention to detail was superb. Definitely earned my Sub.
Thank you!
Wow.... beautifull!
Planning to do the same, this video helps a lot!
You stole the shape of the rapid hm1000. Looks great, very nice job. I wish I can do that too. I have tons of walnut trees around my house. Cheers from California.
You can do it. I never did it before this. Just take your time. All the best!
Oh yeah, this is what I need. I found your finishing video cause I need some pointers on restoring a stock for a Mossberg 185 K-B shotgun, but I have a .22LR by savage that this stock would work wonders for.
I think this is not only a wooden pcp stock making video but also a proof of your professional potentialities. Impressive sir. Everything perfect and beautifully presented. Mind-blowing. .... even I am not getting words to say.....
Thank you! I'm glad you njoyed it.
My pleasure sir
That's awesome,great job
Beautiful job.
Excellent work 👍👍
You are a talented man keep up the good work!
Great job. It's amazing what you do with this airguns. I got my Liberty because of this channel. Congratulations.
Thank you! I forget all worries of world when working on airguns.
You did a great job! I liked it better without the adjustable cheek, but it's your rifle, and it is still very nice.
wow thank you for sharing this !
Nicely done! Now I just need you to document fashioning one for a Gauntlet - left-handed! 😉
Great video
Great work
hi from the UK,Great job my friend you've really upgraded that rifle nicely.everything from the way it shoots to the classy thumbhole walnut stock really looks a treat,Maybe some target shooting footage with the new stock would be great,Nice job man cool! atb Dave
You are a well skilled craftman. I inspire me.
Thank you! Glad I had some good influence.
this is an real masterpiece!!!
Hi mr Bianchi good to see you back !
Hey Dario, what do you think about the stock?
very well done i say counting that you're not a pro so good job sir
Jij bent top je hebt mijn op ideeën gebracht zo mooi 😊
STUNNING!
Amazing job!
Brazil!
Just awesome 👏🏼👌🏼 thanks 🙏🏼
Pretty darn good job fair play
What an awesome piece of work! I'd really like to see you make a bullpup conversion. Kits are not available for that many air rifle models, and they cost quite a lot, too. Your instructions are so clear that I understood even your "chipmunks talk" when you fast fwd some parts :-)
Now this stock price became higher than the total gun price. i am damn confident !
Steve, you're amazing. I don't have the skills to replicate this whole project but I'm thinking of getting the wood stock version and adding the adjustable cheek riser like you did here. I think I can pull that off.
Thank you! Yes you can. Just go slow and take your time.
Well done, sir.
Hand cutting the comb live on camera is the bravest thing I've ever seen.
I was sweating bullets trying to go straight. Lol
@@AirVelocitySport I just re-watched this and had to say this: "At ease" - General Thumbhole
I have the highest hopes that this will guide me in making a stock for a Springfield trapdoor rifle! Thanks!
+1 sub amazing, you deserve a lot of attention for doing something so awesome 👍👏
Beautiful
Nice..good job
great job bro! very informative as usual. See you soon.
Thanks Ro!
Won't you be my neighbor? PCPs and woodworking!
Great Great work looks Fantastic.
Thank you!
To do this with hand tools is amazing.
NICE JOB!
Great tallent! I would love to see you make a Right Side, Left Dominant Eye Stock ( or vice versa )!! Keep up the good work!
It is a thing of beauty.
Great looking stock!! However an easier way to to do adjustable cheek rest is to cut it on a band sand before profiling the grip etc when it is still a flat piece. First I drill the holes for the rods that will be the cheek rest so they line perfectly Then cut the cheek rest out with a band sand. Perfect fit that way.
Excelente trabajo! 👌👏👏👏👏
That shellac technique was great! I always cant stand wood fillers that either stand out after finishing not matching the wood tone.
You did a beautiful job on the stock. It pays to have nice tools to work with. I may have to buy one of these guns just to play around with, main reason is that it's regulated. I just bought an FX/Impact and told myself that's the last gun I'm going to buy. That make 11 PCP's for me, but the price on the ATI is so cheap, eh... why not.
Thank you! Yes, the liberty is slot of value at it's price point.
Great work. Noticed you use Birchwood Casey Tru-oil. That's a wonderful product, used it for years. Just a day or 2 ago, I may have found something glossier, tougher, bonds better: Gorilla Glue! Not kidding! The old brown, foamy glue that's almost useless as glue, but has great potential as a fine finish! The trick is to apply it very (almost micro) thin, which prevents it from foaming. Try it! Sand a scrap of wood smooth, and apply a small amount with a firm squeegee and/or rubber gloves. It MUST be very thinly applied and may need 2 coats! I have never seen any finish cure so shiny and hard.
I’d love your ideas on a Crosman Marauder pistol! Great videos! 👍
good job !
I have a old bsa airrifle and the stock is a mess, and it needs new parts to.
I can still get the parts thankfully so i want to try this to for the bsa ...nice job you did on the stock 👌👌👌
awesome, thanks
Now if you can make a wood thumbhole stock for the Nova Freedom I would be impressed.........Great job.
I love it
Larry Potter field eat your heart out, very nice . Would like to see you do it to a laminated colour blank.
The only words that I have is (Coño) that's fantastic.
I Make Handmade Guitars and i can tell you, his craftsmanship is superb.
Thank you! Making guitars is very cool. Saw how one company does it on the Discovery show 'How it's made'.
we'll done fella, can look at it every day and say, 'I did that'
NICE!!
nicely done, tip for next time, use the router from left to right, the bit goes clockwise so that way the bit will pull the fence against the wood instead of pushing it out, that way the risk that it will fly towards you and takes out wood where you dont want it is reduced to minimum
Thank you
Thank you
beautiful job, the adjustable cheek is called montecarlo
HOLY SHITE Stephen thats hella nice work!!!!
Much respect my man!
Thanks Hajimoto, Love this gun even more.
Ur Italian heritage is truly showing through as u are a great sculptor!! I thought I was an OK woodworker but nothing like u. I would love to have this stock but I think I'm just going to spend the extra $50 and get the ATI wood version. Uve already sold me on the Liberty. From the power adjustable regulator to the nice gnurled side lever to its 100 YD accuracy, even 4300 psi tank..all for sub $300 delivered after discount..it checks all boxes for ultimate budget pcp. It dethrones the Gauntlet even. Definitely my next PCP. Question..can I still get the 20% off discount? Either way..great job on an awesome gun!!
Thank you Trevor. I agree the Wood stock on the Liberty is really nice. I held one recently and I was very impressed. Yes HARDAIR20 is still good. All the best!
