And suddenly ZZ voted Mvp in this tournament, because of his performance vs Brazil. Andrea Pirlo 3 times MVP in 2006 (including the final), Patrick Vieira 2 times MVP (vs Togo and vs Spain), but somehow the journalists voted ZZ. Why ? Plenty great players have played at a high level into advanced age into positions that were physically far more demanding. Maldini played until he was almost 40. And France didn't need ZZ that much. To this day every time I see a video of this brilliant man I get wet eyes. I only had privilege of watching him for last 3 seasons of his career but to me those were the 3 greatest seasons I have even watched. To me he is the essence of what football is soposed to be. Doing everything with finesse, not forcing anything, everything just seemed natural to him. And at the end of the day he always remained humble deep down. At the end of the day he was just a man and this is what I loved about him. He had his flaws but noone else could make me feel the way he did when he played and to me this is the most important. He never scored 50+ in a season, he was never the star guys like Messi and CR are nowdays being everywhere in media, yet more (grown) people loved him than any modern superstar. Maby he is not the best ever but for me he will always be the greatest becous at the end of the day it is not about all the goals and the trophyes but about all the emotions that the game brings. Greatest player I've seen with the ball. It is as simple as that. Messi can retrieve the accolade as the greatest of all time I have no problem with that. But if I had to be completely honest and say who is the greatest I've seen with the ball and generally play football? It would have to be zidane. He was mesmerising and yes I am someone who has seen him throughout his career. Euro 2000 he was just unstoppable. He was someone who made it seem like he was almost levitating above the ground ever so slightly as if he was gliding through the pitch. It is as if he had silk socks in each foot while the others wore their workman boots on the pitch. He could do everything with his stronger or weaker foot if there even was a weaker foot. To put it simple he had this velvet touch in everything he did as if his 5 yard pass was just so much more flattering than when someone else did it. Just oozed confidence and composure as well as skill and flair. One of the greatest of all time definitely in the top 10 bracket of greatest to ever touch a ball on a pitch.

First of all, 34 is not exactly that old for an attacking midfielder. It's not like he was 40. His job was to assist and create chances, not to run 20 km.
Plenty great players have played at a high level into advanced age into positions that were physically far more demanding. Maldini played until he was almost 40.

I remember media saying Zidane would be remembered for the headbut above all else ..... that didn't happen :) Greatest player of all time, complete player.
To this day every time I see a video of this brilliant man I get wet eyes. I only had privilege of watching him for last 3 seasons of his career but to me those were the 3 greatest seasons I have even watched. To me he is the essence of what football is soposed to be. Doing everything with finesse, not forcing anything, everything just seemed natural to him. And at the end of the day he always remained humble deep down. At the end of the day he was just a man and this is what I loved about him. He had his flaws but noone else could make me feel the way he did when he played and to me this is the most important. He never scored 50+ in a season, he was never the star guys like Messi and CR are nowdays being everywhere in media, yet more (grown) people loved him than any modern superstar. Maby he is not the best ever but for me he will always be the greatest becous at the end of the day it is not about all the goals and the trophyes but about all the emotions that the game brings. Football is the beautiful game and Zizu was personification of that.

Greatest player I've seen with the ball. It is as simple as that. Messi can retrieve the accolade as the greatest of all time I have no problem with that. But if I had to be completely honest and say who is the greatest I've seen with the ball and generally play football? It would have to be zidane. He was mesmerising and yes I am someone who has seen him throughout his career. Euro 2000 he was just unstoppable. He was someone who made it seem like he was almost levitating above the ground ever so slightly as if he was gliding through the pitch. It is as if he had silk socks in each foot while the others wore their workman boots on the pitch. He could do everything with his stronger or weaker foot if there even was a weaker foot. To put it simple he had this velvet touch in everything he did as if his 5 yard pass was just so much more flattering than when someone else did it. Just oozed confidence and composure as well as skill and flair. One of the greatest of all time definitely in the top 10 bracket of greatest to ever touch a ball on a pitch.
