- EA SPORTS WRC is the latest title in Codemasters' long-running series of rally games, which started with Colin McRae Rally back in 1998.
This time, however, EA and Codemasters take over the official WRC licence from Kylotonn to create a substantial rally experience, featuring the full gamut of 2023's WRC, WRC2 and Junior WRC categories across a packed 2023 calendar.
However, despite excellent gravel physics and a comprehensive career mode, EA SPORTS WRC has notable performance issues on PC, which come into stark relief when compared to the console version.
We've collated a video showing the difference between the PlayStation 5 and PC versions, showing back-to-back footage of the Oliver Solberg/Elliott Edmondson Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo on Rally Oceania's Mangapai stage.
What do you think about EA SPORTS WRC's performance on PlayStation 5 and PC? Let us know in the comments below.

How is your experience so far with EA SPORTS WRC? At launch, we tested three different PC hardware combinations, a variety of settings, and found to have a smoother experience without stutters on PS5 at present. Let's see how it progresses!
Im seriously considering asking for a refund. the stuttering isn't "terrible" for me, but enough to annoy me, graphically it doesn't seem like a big step up from DR2.0, a title that came out in 2019. I just went through a watersplash and it looked....terrible, like I went through a pit of mercury...
the lack of telemetry at launch and the fact that its just...too easy...even with all assists off .... argh I don't know..I just find DR2.0 to be more enjoyable and challenging to drive.
the longer stages are great though, really nice, greaty variety. I just wish I could drive them in DR2.0 :/
I guess I got my hopes up too high.
I have ps5 version. At this stage I cant stand playing it. Stuttering and screen tearing plagues the game to the point I feel like to vomit.
On ps5 its a big 💩💩💩 this is the last game I buy from EA=💩💩💩 NEXT-GEN absolute trash game on PS5
I think I got lucky as my PC runs it perfectly fine besides encountering stutters on 1/10 stages. I have an AMD 6700XT, running it on a 1440p ultrawide, medium (some high) settings getting 70+ fps.
Imo WRC is so much more enjoyable than Generations, though I play on a wheel. A few things I found: the stage design is a real standout (it uses actual roads used in the rallies) they're just super fun roads to drive through both the slow twisty sections and straight fast parts. The physics are more consistent (overall slightly more grip to be a complete sim, but it means its more fun as a simcade), the way the WRC1 cars react at high speeds with its downforce and compliant suspension feels surreal. The career mode has way more variety in utilising its car list, you constantly have opportunity to drive in side championships using other car classes on top of your main WRC route so it's like a constant rotisserie of rally content that's too addicting to jump off. The pace notes are bang on 98% of the time as its tuned to the car's speed, so it gives you much more confidence through the rallies.
I personally set it so I can't restart, and have hardcore damage on, so I have to drive at a 90% safety margin and only push when I should, and its super fun even if I screw up and crash out of some points. The risk makes the exhilaration of going flatout all the more special.
En triples 3x28 con una 4070ti increible, todo en ultra a 100-120fos estables
side by side is better for comparison than screen swipes.
It's a blurry mes on series x. Doesn't look good at all. Dirt rally 2.0 looks sharper and has better textures
Ur not alone it is blurry and screen tear and lag, pretty much all u don’t want in a racing game so far bad start. And dirt 2.0 is way better looking. So far this is a joke
All you have to do is turn AA to Epic or Cinematic? 🤷♂️
@@EazyE53 and what to do on consoles?
I think it might be down to the engine change. UE looks softer with its AA but the lighting is definitely improved over DR2.0/
They said 4K 60fps but the game its dont work verry well maybe 1080p 30FPS serious
I'm not super impressed by the graphics whatever is the platform. But it's just my humble opinion.
Nevertheless, thanks to the TraxionGG team.
Unreal engine 4 not 5 😢
agreed. my laptop can only run the game on medium, and it looks worse than Dirt 3. the night lighting is particularly bad :(
@@iansteelmatheson It should have been UE5 to be considered really next gen!
@@snoopycharlie8718 5 isn't going to instantly make it look better. Rennsport doesn't look that fabulous in UE5.
@@snoopycharlie8718 how? They started this game 4 years ago before UE5 was even a thing, you think they're gonna be the first to test on it and release it? Not just a simple upgrade...
Great comparison video, thanks.
Why to set 4K and DLSS to ultra-perfomance on PC to get only ~30 fps? I play at 5900X with 4070Ti at 1440p without DLSS, profile "Ultra", AA at High...80-90 fps and GPU load is only 85-90% strangely
Thanks for showcasing Oliver's Fabia RS Rally2 which is the car I designed the real life livery for. Haha
Ah mega! It looks excellent 👌🏼
@@TraxionGG Thanks
Is there a 2 player split screen mode on PS5 and is it possible to steer with motion sensor on DualSense
how have we not come further in graphics? this looks like a game from 2015
we have come further its just that unreal engine 4 looks really bad and soulless if not done right thats why dirt rally 2.0 or dirt 4 look way better
@@mymymyymy But this is literally Dirt rally 2.0 with a WRC license.
@@keaixiaomeinv it's on a different engine though, Unreal Engine 4 this time instead of Codemasters own engine.
@@keaixiaomeinvfacts
@@keaixiaomeinv No.. its not at all. Its on a completely different game engine. That's like saying a blue ferrari and a blue civic hatchback are the exact same car because they are blue. Unreal 4 is just notorious for looking washed out and running like complete ass when not done right.
How is the PS5 version on 1080p resolution? It should be flawless in terms of tearing and stuttering i suppose or something is really wrong.
I found turning everything on ultra and going to the nvidia control panel and using ai upscaling 2560x1440 resolution with cinematic anti-aliasing in the wrc options it looks smooth and nice...I'm using a legion 5 RTX 3070 running about 90-110 FPS smooth as butter 🧈
I'm also running the Legion 5 with the 3070 and I'm still not sure whether to buy the game for PC or PS5.
@@M1tZk1I'm in the same boat right now, ps5 looks like the safer bet.. for now
I like how DiRT 2.0 looked more refined and simple. This one is more detailed, but at the cost of visual clarity and smoothness.
DR2.0 was using Codemasters' in-house engine. This game is using Unreal Engine 4, unfortunately. Codemasters deemed the switch as "necessary" because their previous engine couldn't do the 30km stages in some of the real-world rallies. While it's great that some stages are longer like in real life, there are bound to be compromises in visual fidelity and performance, especially since they aren't even using Unreal Engine 5 for some reason.
Looks unoptimized on pc. Was this on a fresh windows installation? But this is at 4k
thanks for the video :-)
I really hope they fix the ai not only are they inconsistent form stage to stage but across every surface in every car I've driven they clearly have more grip in low speed than the player and in high speed it's like the opposite
Good job on the early comparison. Maybe do it again after a couple of updates. Oh and don't read the comments. You did fine.
Seems to run generally well on PS5 with minor tearing during actual driving. There are stutters on scenes like the pre start 3rd person cam. Graphics are nice and clean with solid AA coverage.
As for the gameplay I’ve been having a lot of fun. It’s easier to get to grips with on a controller than DR2.0 which is a relief but it’s definitely still a challenging game. Not quite the equivalent of the F1 games for the mass market I’d say, but they have tried with broader AI difficulty settings for one thing.
There's a major problem with your PC footage. I have a RTX 2080, i7 9700k, and I can hit 50-70fps with a mix of high to ultra settings at 1440p DLSS quality.
I get zero stutters or hitches. There are problems with exclusive fullscreen. It's smooth for me in borderless.
Put fullscreen with v-sync Enabled and stuttering gonna disapear
idk how yall run on ultra settings, i have decent specs and it lags like hell
ps4 graphics not ps5
How’s the game run on ps5, worth the buy now or better to wait for a few patches. Also great video
Sometimes little bit lag but overall Its perfect
Totally s****. There are even shadows on the screen. Check the complains on ea.
It's basically spot-on, sometimes occasional mild hiccups, but we found it generally to be smoother and less prone to errors than PC.
@@TraxionGG graphically big jump from dirt 2.0 like they advertised you reckon
@@theANIMALwarrior94 definitely a step back from DR2 graphically
I literally cant play the new WRC 23. The games graphics and fidelity suck so bad. The handling feels nice but the graphics on my 3060 TI are so bad. Gonna be refunding it unfortunately due to that. Richard burns rally has better graphics and fidelity💀. I literally cant see were Im driving at times lol
Early video, the PS5 owned PC in framerates. Is RT on? I don't understand people choose RT only to get hindered by performance, smh
There is a pattern here with EA. Pc is king of platforms in terms of raw power. Yet they optimise their games for console. I’m a hardcore sim fanatic both racing and flight with a 10k set up. I just want an up to date as real as you can get rally SIMULATOR.
this is one of the reasons I gave up on pc gaming, I am tired of the stutter fest
But I hear its the Master Race?? 😅
Blame the devs not the platform.
pre-comp for shader is supposedly coming. Stutter is my pet-hate too but nearly all games I play run really well without stutter these days.
Looks like Codemasters optimized the console versions first since modders tend to do all the dirty work in cleaning up and improving the performance of the PC version all for free.
Seems that way at present
I read feedback that there is bad stutter on ps5 as well, maybe the video show shorter stage etc.
@@jacquesjtheripper5922zero stutter on my PS5
@@thewispo strange, maybe its on some rallies.
I’ve not noticed any stutter during the rallies themselves on PS5 but some stages have a bit of tearing. It’s really minor and I’m surprised by some of the comments saying it’s unplayable. Maybe I have more tolerance from years of playing on consoles and remembering the PS3 days in particular!
PS5 looks smoother than the 3080 PC settings you have. But maybe if you've dropped the resolution to 1440p it would look better? 🤷🏼♂️
interesting, it's unplayable on 5600x / 4070 / nvme no matter the settings... :(
Just playing this on series X it looks pretty awful bad bugs as well floating static grass in the air, hiccups thats with vrr on! Low resolution too think this needed another 6 months!
If this was available for psvr2 it'd be a no brainer purchase.....but it's not 😔🔫
why build a expensive pc when a cheaper version can do it better, what a bummer
PC 40fps PS5 60fps.
Lol
I'm really enjoying the game for the handling and longer stages, but I am so disappointed with how it looks on my Series X. I just can't understand why it looks and runs so much worse than Dirt Rally 2.0 which came out 4 years ago. I understand the engine is different, but tearing, pop-in, and stutters on console are things you would imagine Codemasters could have done better with.
Agreed 100%
Thank you for beta testing the game, anyone who paid for day 1 access.
PS5 is on medium/high settings though or not graphic quality as the pc and is locked at 60hz, PC should have also turned the graphics quality down and turned vsync on for smooth display it just looks bad
The PS5 version looks murky AF.
The PC Version on the other hand stutters allot if you dont set to low the SHADERS, PARCTICLES, SMOKE and Anisotropic.
Not sure where they get this PS5 footage but this is not what the game looks like… it’s blurry, the screen tearing is outrageous (like legit the worst I have ever seen in modern games) and the frame time spikes are dramatic and long
Sorry to hear that it’s running so poorly for you😢 We have tried it across two different PS5’s and both versions (so far) were running flawlessly other than a few specific scenarios (night driving and Monte Carlo). Hope yours gets better soon!
@@TraxionGGI find that incredibly disconcerting… because I don’t think I’m too overly critical about stuff like that. But i mean it truly feels just like Jedi Survivor did on PS5 at launch, framerate, blurryness, and screen tearing. And at least with Jedi people were on the same page about it. Here with WRC it seems to be 50/50 of people who have a bad experience and those who have a good experience. And that’s always a rough feeling haha
@@danquaza9275 I experienced the same blurryness on PS5. Maybe they lowered the resolution in the recent patch.
Why is the PC running at a lower frame rate in these comparisons? From my experience the ps5 looks much much worse then the PC.
Everything is great about the game except how it runs. Dirt 2.0 is buttery smooth and I can have everything on ultra and get over 140 fps. I have to run WRC on high to only get 70-90fps with stutters and dips. Not ideal for a racing game. I have a 3090 so if I have to play the game on medium then I'd rather not play it.
Ea probably pushed unreal engine on codemasters, shame.
Plus more into casual play.
The graphics at 4K on a high end PC look dreadful... but no, that doesn't mean the game runs like a dream... there's still awful stutter which makes it almost unplayable. I highly recommend to anyone thinking of purchasing this to stay away at the moment.
They have the Upscale on ultra performance dude... this is NOT really 4k... if you need upscaler on Ultra Performance then just go 1440p... no reason AT ALL to go 4k that way... 1440p Ultra looks better than 4k with Upscale on Ultra Performance .
@@nikosfotidas8543this is from my personal experience and a general comment on the game. I’m playing at 4K, DLSS quality and a mixture of high to ultra settings and getting around 100fps. However, a lot of stages look like garbage and the stuttering is dreadful.
@@aaron0288 I played the game 1440p mid-high settings cause my GPU performance sucks in this game (RX 6900XT) to be sure to never dip under 60FPS and the game still looks good... I don't know what your standards are, but the people that say that this game looks worse than Dirt Rally 2.0 are just blind... it certainly looks way better... but performance is really dogshit...
@@nikosfotidas8543 sorry, but it absolutely looks worse than DR2. try playing at night.
@@aaron0288 I'm in the same boat you are, only I even bumped it all the way down to freaking 1080p, dlss on performance, and mixture of high/ultra. The game is still literally unplayable. Frame drops and stutters ever few seconds, crashes to desktop. It's so nice to know they promise people early access only to hand them a broken unfinished piece of dogshit, now we have to apparently wait til after release to get a patch... totally rendering the "early access" useless. If that day 1patch doesnt magically fix everything I'm refunding this trash.
wow the fps on pc is much lower than PS5 ?
Makes people want to go for the PS5.
Most likely the pc capture, still great to see high framerate on console.
@@mclarenguy22 The PS5 version looks like it's barely running above the lowest settings, so of course the frame rate will be better. But still, it's a typical Unreal Engine game, as it it's unoptimised (and looks dated)
bad settings were choosen for such PC hardware
In our experience, across three different PC builds, it does seem to run on the whole smoother on a PS5 currently
PS5 owners say ps5 version is better.
PC owners say PC version is better.
They both are great in there own hardware.
I have ps5, because I'm more into controllers than keyboard and mouse.
Do people even play racing game using a keyboard and mouse? Seems like it would be awful.
Wont buy until PSVR2 support is on the roadmap.
In my opinion the game looks way better than dirt rally2.
Its a shame there's no psvr2 support, if there was id be all over the game.
It looks like 10fps on pc wtf
On PS5 the graphics are buggy, the screen breaks and we often can see horizontal lines.... This never happened with other games. 🙄😢
I thought Codemasters with EA budget and WRC license would have produced a golden game. Dirt 2.0 is still better than this.
some locations are underwhelming visually for sure...
Xbox series X version looks terrible. It looks like a 2015 game, no texture, very blurry, no 60 fps
Textures will come as paid DLC
Blurry on PS5. And permanent stuttering 😢😢😢
Its like PS3 game on me 😂😢
Turn DLSS off. That just ruins fast past games. ACC looks aweful with DLSS. Also, if playing at 4k, turn down the filtering and AA. You really don't need them much at 4k compared to 1080p. I never looked to see if they had DLAA. If they do, then I'd just run that and leave DLSS off and AA off.
DCS world just introduced DLSS and it makes things look blah. DLAA makes everything look awesome though. Or just buy a 4090 like I did and rip on! :)
I have to disagree about ACC. Because of the the terrible anti aliasing, 1080p looks horrible. So what I do is run it at 2k with DLDSR and turn on Quality DLSS. Runs better and looks better. With WRC though... well, we'll see but I have no reason to belive that the DLSS inplementation will be bad.
Graphics are terrible look's last gen
Mouais, c'est exactement la même chose... Y'a encore des gens en 2023 qui sont impressionnés par ce genre de vidéo ?... Au fait je suis passé sur Xbox Series X, graphiquement c'est exactement pareil que la Xbox One S 😒
The game on PS5 its a big 💩💩💩 its not worth 20€ nah they said game its work on PS5 4K 60fps no is not rather 1080p 30fps trash EA
Its a downgrade UNREAL is a garbage
Eww Denuvo
Go back under your stone.
