I shot the remote for that segment back a zillion years ago. I remember his dad had a net in the garage and Tiger was hitting golf balls into the net. Who knew he would become so famous?

Nice mythology. The truth is, Tiger's dad was a stage mom. He molded Tiger into a golfer from the moment he was old enough to grasp a club. And like all stage moms, he made sure that the kid had no other activities or goals than HIS own. Turns out, Tiger also had the right genetics, and eventually formed a love for the game. But to pretend he just sort of "became" Tiger Woods is a lie.
You know it probably started before that with the passing of his dad, hes probably been depressed ever since that day. I mean, put 2 and 2 together. His dad passed in 2006, only took 3 years for other things to start falling apart.

I remember watching this as a 12 year old when it aired. I didn't know a thing about golf but knew this kid was great. His mom did not look happy.
Tiger's dad, Earl, was a Green Beret in Vietnam. He taught Tiger to have a fighting spirit.
I'm sure he also beat it into him.
