Worth the 22-year wait - 1992 Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 | Why I Drive #13

- In 1995, Mark Hutchinson's classmate showed him a Japanese car magazine. There were cars he had never heard of before: Silvias, 180SXs, Celica GT-4s, and Skylines-and, most notably, the Skyline’s race-bred sibling, the GT-R. Trouble was, these cars were forbidden fruit in the U.S. at that time. Finally, in 2017, Hutchinson succeeded in importing a 1992 GT-R from Japan. As an owner of a vintage car, I salute you for owning and taking care of this gem !
Yeaaah buddy! I too was shown vintage Japanese cars and fell in love; I now have what you have: A 1992 GT-R in almost new condition, one owner in Japan till exported here,
The cinematography was outstanding. A lot of work and editing surely went into that.
Yes, one of the many impressive aspects of this series
I bet you won't get bored to this car
I did chuckle a little bit when you mentioned the difficulty at the drive-thru restaurant. It doesn't work unless you have a passenger :-)
But the most notable difficulty in driving right hand drive as I have experienced in my Saturn SWP, Is when you want to overtake a vehicle on a two-lane road,, oh, it is quite the challenge, first you must go over to the right hand shoulder to look ahead to see if the traffic is clear, then carefully move out into the other lane to get around,, Very carefully!
JDM drive through yo, backwards!
For me, next month marks 25 years that I've dreamed of a 90's GTR. 25 years since I first saw one in a video game when I was still in high school. I think now that I was too young at the time for the responsibility for such a car, but now, 25 years later, for me this is the summer of the GTR. I don't know how, but I feel my wait will be at an end. I'll find a way to finally get my hands on my dream car this year. Everyone should, I think. Thanks for the vid!
Love this series, and each one captures why I love cars and driving so much
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks for being a fan.
@@Hagerty I'd volunteer if you guys ever do an east coast episode, but right now my Viper is sidelined
I love the Why I Drive playlist, please dont stop making them
Just think over here in the States you can always get a mail route
as a hagerty customer for several years, and a fellow owner of TWO r32 skyline gt-r, thanks for making this video!
Happy to have you! Thanks for watching.
This car is one of only two things on my bucket list.
That would be great to deliver mail in.
My neighbor has one of these cars. He had in in the states for at least 15 years at this point. Fun to drive.
One sweet bit of jdm history there
Can’t believe this is on hagerty
Well said 💯 Really is a beautiful piece of history
Awesome thanks
When (and if) i eventualy come into money,I want one of these and a yellow Integrale, then i'll be happy!
oh my god look at the roads!!! so clean, so smooth, so nice. I'd give my left kidney for a couple miles of that road!! lol
Was this the car that took the place of the 240 SZ that I loved that disappeared when they did a body change on it like this one? Nissan told me they sent all the 240SZ cars to Mexico and that was the last I’ve ever seen them, even used ones! I use to lease one every three years! I should have bought them and keep them had I known they were going to get rid of them!
That car is simply gorgeous, too bad we didn't get a more detailed look at engine and inside
They are fun for a bit. Traded mine in to slide a boosted 67 Firebird instead ;)
Great video! Could use another 10 minutes though!
Wow I’m amazed at how clean this R32 GTR looks! I’ve seen them so overdone which can be pretty tacky. The 92’ JDM stock style is where its at! Plus he got it legalized in Cali?! 😜 that’s dedication. Mark is an artist.
Nice choice
How much do a skyline like that run on price? And how do i get one?
Damn it that car is beautiful
My dream car, with this care from an insurance company.
There really is hope.
日本の車をこれぐらい綺麗に乗ってもらえるとありがたいですね!
R32はやっぱりいい車ですね!
Oh but my friend in 95 in the US had the 90 Celica All Trac turbo....The Gt4 essentially. Sweet car. We blew the motor on the first day ha.
Drive-thru is a problem? You could park and walk inside. I mean, its worth a shot.
not after midnight.......
Ya had them here since they were new
Us Aussies have been modifying them for years , mine makes 600hp at the crank 500 at the tires ,pretty much mild rebuild stage 1 on ethanol ,
Carefull Jimbo you might end up in a barrier like any other skyline in animes
Just do the drive through in reverse. There, problem solved.
Or just get your lazy ass out of the car and WALK in for your greasy food...
White people and there diebetus lol. Sorry for my Texan accent
I had a friend who owned the previous sqaure shaped skyline, we were driving in winter a he lost control of wheel, crashed and rolled. He went through windsheild and killed himself (not wearing seat belt). I got out only cause of belt. 1994.
When i go to Goodwood Festival of Speed i have to drive a right hand drive car, and i always drive a manual because everybody says it's easy. I've done this three times now and i can tell you it definitly is NOT easy to drive right hand drive cars. It might take you half an hour to get used to your hand movements and feet actions but i can never place the car where i want. The confidence is gone, plus driving on narrow British roads makes it even worse. However i find it challenging and its great i can still get anxious in a car :) I also think Skylines are amazing cars but for being right hand drive i will never buy one; which both is a good & a bad thing.
Just sit in the passenger seat of a LHD car and see where the car sits in the lane. Pretty simple.
Hopefully I can snag a R34 GTR in 2024.
A GTR that hasn’t been riced! It’s a world first (not really)!
Slide squad!
Whoo needs the drive thry
Driving on the right side is the right side, quite literally.
Good car. In Russia many skyline in perfect condition
They're not, actually. Owners try to make them look fresh, but they are not at all :-) Hello from Russia.
No. There are just old buckets restored after crashes, with swapped motors, repainted to look cool. It's rare to find REALLY good Skyline in Russia.
Find that very hard to believe after watching many CZcams videos of Russian drivers, oops i meant Russians who can't drive.
Argentina!!!
Dream car
The best car i ever owned!...wish I had never sold it!
ナーーイス!
Drive thrus are easy as far as like fast food places go but when it come to the atm your fucked 😂 I also just go in
If only all roads were like this. Unfortunately I live in Los Angeles County AKA Ghetto County were you're never alone on the roads and there's a effin red light within a block that you will catch with some dipshit tailgating behind you. I love my car, but for these reasons stated, I rarely get the opportunity to really enjoy it.
it's not called a godzilla for nothing
'they don't make' em like this no more'
“Slide Squad”. Lmao ok.
SlideSquad
So another Petrolicious lookalike video, what will you do next ? give it a Doug score ?
Lmao dudee.. that doug score killed me 😂
A petrolicious lookalike video is quite a compliment. Not so sure about the Dough score :)
please no Doug score, keep that stuff away
Ah JDM, the artificially inflated market caused by the 25 year law that makes the rest of the world hate us. It's still awesome tho
Never cared for Japanese cars after lusting after a 240Z when they first came out and looked at one that had been driven in Illinois in the winter. (salt) The body had already started to rust thru in places. That's when I found out about the quality of corrosion resistant steel they were using in the early and mid 1970's which as it turns out was nonexistent. American cars at the time were not much better but they would usually last at least 3-5 years in the salt before rusting thru, a little longer if you paid extra to have it Zbarted or Rusty Jones coated inside the exterior body panels.
👍👍👍👍🥰🥰🥰
chouf
Anything JDm old rusty 90s car is worth it lol
It is a cool car, but I would rather have a Corvette, Mustang or a Camaro. Or best yet an old Ford truck that has been restomodded. But each to their own.
This car has no significant history!
Turkey Man you dont know what you're talking about. Check the racing circuit and how it got the name godzilla.
To add to what @@shadyshinichi2JZ said, the skyline name harkens back to the 60s where it dominated JGTC until the arrival of Mazda RX-3s. No history my ass.
