    I used Sedgehammer on a big area that I had a problem with Nutsedge. It was very expensive but you only need 1 gram (1/4 of a teaspoon) of Sedgehammer per GALLON of water. I did use a surfactant, let it sit for 2 days, then watered it in. The Nutsedge immediately stopped growing then shriveled up to nothing in about 8 days. Worked amazing for me. I’ve heard good things about Ortho’s Nutsedge Killer but never tried it myself. As far as I’m concerned, the Sedgehammer was worth the money.

    • @DBrengartner
      @DBrengartner Před 5 lety +1

      InDatParish only problem with Sedgehammer is that it only temporarily kills nutsedge because it doesn’t take care of the nutlets deeper in the soil that allows it to regrow.

      Me too. Nutsedge was dead after 48 hours. I even applied it after a heavy rain, and it rained afterwards..still killed it all in 48 hours with NO harm to my Bermuda. Ortho Nutsedge Killer is the one and it's only 12 dollars at Lowe's.

    I used a product called Manage for several years. It worked great but I don’t think it’s available any longer. I now use Sedgehammer and it is also great. It is expensive but it doesn’t affect the Bermuda at all. I think it’s available on Amazon. I have paid as much as $150/bottle for the granular type. It is now about $80 and it lasts for years.

    • @koomo801
      @koomo801 Před 5 lety +1

      Sedgehammer is fantastic. Works a bit faster than Image and there's no adverse effect on bermuda. When I buy it by the single use packet I just use a small amount of it and store the rest of the powder/surfactant mix in an air-tight pill container for next year.

    I thought my weed was the Nutsedge? I do have a few of those, but my real problem is the weeds that the foliage looks like Netsedge with the little prickly looking star clusters on the tips of each one! They were taking over my lawn and I've actually gone as far is to take the whole weed with roots intacted and pull each one up in my front yard! But the back is way to huge of an area to do this! I had a bad case of armyworms and since last Spring I've hand tilled my whole front yard and half of the back! And have raked and raked 1,000 times thatching and they are all gone now so far! But man, they did some damage. I've finally seen where all my hard work is paying off! And I think you'd be proud! Lol! I know my Dad is looking down on me loving the fact I listened to him all the times I helped him growing up in the yard! Best times of my life! I'll have to try to send you before and afters! Lol. But getting back to my weed? What is it and how do I kill it without messing up what I've worked so very hard on? And this may sound stupid, but oh! Well...I have no idea what kind of grass I have? It's like the golf grass at the local golf course! Small blades and very soft to walk on! Like a grass carpet!!! Thank you and love your videos!!!

    I have new Kentucky Blue Grass sod laid. 2 months old. Sod is great and healthy from tons of watering and it seems like the roots are established.
    However, I do have nutsedge popping up all over. Probably from the existing grass that was removed.
    If I use this product or sedgehammer, on the new sod, will that be safe? I heard only to use it on well established turf. Should I just wait to fight this battle next season? Or can I do it now? Thanks!!

    Most systemic herbicides will get to the root as long as it hits the leaves of the plant. Up here in Michigan I use Gordon's Pasture Pro Plus. It kills wild rose, wild raspberry, bull thistle, Canadian thistle, poison ivy, clover, and just about any other broadleaf plant you can think of.

    I am a bit confused about his comments about not needing chemicals on the lawn due to the use of pre-emergent herbicides. Aren't most pre-emergent herbicides composed of carcinogenic chemicals that create a chemical barrier to inhibit weed seed germination?

    • @HowTowithDoc
      @HowTowithDoc  Před 5 lety +1

      Weed Killers... not chemicals. I don't have to apply anything "NEGATIVE" to the lawn all season due to the use of PE.

  • @GCMac87
    @GCMac87 Před 5 lety

    I use Blindside at the recommended rate in a pump sprayer (fan tip) and it kills nutsedge in a day or so and doesn’t damage my Bermuda lawn like the Dismiss (at that concentration) seems to do. Admittedly, Blindside is pricey and, as a warning, do not use a surfactant with it . . . that will cause some Bermuda damage.
