    This is an excellent use of intuitive coaching and actively progressing stimuli imposed on the body. Most workouts impose arbitrary limits on the body by their very design, but allowing an athlete (or yourself) to "explore" their individual limits via stretching the duration of intensity is one key to improvement.
    @JasonKarp- Could you perhaps outline what the recovery after a session like this may look like, and what a secondary or tertiary session in the same microcycle would be from your perspective?

  • @leeroyjeankins7781
    @leeroyjeankins7781 Před rokem

    I have stopped watching my HR during tougher workouts because I think the mentality ties into that too- '''oh wow my HR is ___, I should feel tired right now''. Then a minute later you're feeling tired. The paul chelimo 4 mile tempo run (sweat elite video) paul talks with his training partner/pacer Dante ( a short distance runner) about those mental games during longer runs. Super interesting insight into the mental game of running.

    • @jasonkarp1029
      @jasonkarp1029 Před 2 lety +19

      Yes. The number of reps is arbitrary. What matters is causing a sufficient amount of fatigue that your body responds and adapts to.

    • @rm6857
      @rm6857 Před 2 lety +1

      If LT pace for those guys is race pace for half marathon~ 1hour, than he just broke it down to shorter reps to not kill them, no magic about those reps

    • @jasonkarp5070
      @jasonkarp5070 Před 2 lety +10

      @@rm6857 I didn't plan the workout that way. It's planned as unlimited reps at threshold pace with 60 seconds rest between reps, cutting down the distance of the reps as the athletes fatigue. Try it yourself and you'll see how exhausting it can be. At the start of the workout, I and they didn't know that the total distance would come out to be close to a half-marathon. We just focus on one rep at a time.
