    Man... We loved this movie as teenagers in the 80s. In high school...me and a buddy dressed up as Bob and Doug and we went trick or treating. We asked for Beers, Eh. 3 houses...gave them to us! Beauty eh! Ah....the 80s...when kids where kids and parents were irresponsible! Good times!

    • @frederick2video
      @frederick2video Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yeah, my sister and I dressed up as Bob and Doug for Halloween too. Our parents didn't like it but we were teenagers so there wasn't much that they could do about it. We had empty stubby beer bottles and cigarettes with us. Both were scoffed from the bar my Dad had in the rumpus room. People thought that we were hilarious. We never thought of actually trick or treating, let alone asking for beer. We just went to a couple of parties and walked around the neighbourhood talking to other kids. Us being girl Bob and Dougs added to the comedy. I am going to see if I can find the pictures of us.

      @@frederick2video Beauty eh!!! I love it! Damn... Too bad you weren't here in Phoenix in the 80s. Could have partied with us. We ran in a big crew of all the freak/long haired trouble makers. A collection of broken toys in the bottom of the toy box lol. We had lots of fun and .. Chicks ... Chick really dug us😋 we were lots of fun lol. And yea... @@frederick2video Lol. Ah...the snowbirds! God bless them! Yea, we have out first Snowbird sighting yearly in October/November. It's an RV doing 45mph on the Freeway, in the fast lane (or no ...the bloody HOV lane which outside of the restricted rush hour times....becomes the VERY FAST LANE! 😜)!
      Yes.... pharmacy lines get longer. Luby's cafeterias start to fill up...around 4pm! Filling up their glad sandwich bags with items from the all you can't eat buffet...and stuffing them in Granny's purse. Yes... Our treasured snowbirds. 🤣🤣🤣
      Kidding aside....they bring a lotta dollars into the community. Aren't causing crime. Well... Driving everywhere in the slow lane .. including the freeway isn't a crime yet... technically.... although I think it should be and punishable by a good a$$ beating 😜. In general...good folks and we're happy... overall...to have them. I for one, as I get older myself....think it's a crying shame how we just toss aside and ignore our elderly. A lot can be learned from them and...they can still produce in society, given the chance. Still contribute.
      Also, I played hockey from childhood until the body wore out in late 30s...after eight surgeries. So, I have a soft spot for our cousins to the north. Canadians are good people. Your foot is becoming even more of pathetic joke than ours but...love the people. Especially from Letterkenny 😜. You guys created two of the greatest sports! Hockey of course...far and away the coolest and least annoying pro athletes. And of course...curling! If only my spine could hack it and...I still drank! Looks like a great beer sport....lol. Yup....just adore out cousins in the Great White North! They are a beauty, eh!

However, I've seen Smokey and the Bandit (1977), and was obsessed with it like two years ago. But this Strange Brew masterpiece is like the Canadian version of Smokey and the Bandit. The show Great White North appeared on the sketch comedy show whenever they needed to fill time at the end of an episode. It was all improvised just to kill time - never scripted. There are dozens of clips on CZcams of old shows. The show premiered in 1977 & produced 135 episodes (6 seasons) - it was goofy & silly af 😄

      I've seen this movie tons of times, and even I thought that at the beginning. But this was their hook, just like that grunt that whatsisame used to do on Home Improvement or Seinfedl going "hello....Newman".
      So it was a case of giving people what they want, its especially over the top right at the beginning, probably for a reason. But no, I think midwesterners in the US say 'eh' more often than most canadians, see Fargo for that.

      I'm also 46 years old and watching this for the first time. Been searching for this film for years ever since i heard it mentioned on the album 'Music to Make Love to Your Old Lady By' by Lovage (Mike Patton, Dan the Automator, Jennifer Charles, Kid Koala)
      Always wondered what thd relevance was that earned it a mention on an album as good as that one.

    I love that such a corny movie makes a bow to Shakespeare's Hamlet AND Star Wars at the same time... any others I missed?

      There’s Orwellian themes and a reference to 1984 specifically.

    We interrupt this broadcast to bring you this special message... How's it goin' eh? today's movie on the Universal National Network is a classic. Starring in it, are two comedic geniuses of North American cinema from the 20th century, Bob and Doug McKenzie. Entitled "Strange Brew", it chronicles the heroic adventures of two latter day renaissance men, or, to use the correct 20th century terminology, hosers. We give it, 3 thumbs up.
