Behind The Rise Of Sydney Masciarelli

- When Marianapolis Preparatory sophomore Sydney Masciarelli went to the line a year ago at Foot Locker Nationals, she did something that few had done before her: She won a national title on her first try. But that was just the culmination of what may have been the best debut cross country season we've ever witnessed. MileSplit travelled to Connecticut this past spring to sit down with Masciarelli, her family and her coaches to find out just what made the fall of 2018 so special. Check out the video above, and check out our other features on Masciarelli during our time there.

She trains with her brother, that’s badass
Twin brother!
Would have been interesting with Touhy there.... Great race and congrats!
Touhy would have destroyed her
@@alexandrab7215 doubt it--Footlocker is a tough x-c course and running 17 flat is a very good time-Touhy may have beaten her but not by much...Masciarelli has more upside in my opinion, since she won FL in only her 1st cross season-Touhy has been racing for 7 years now and she may have peaked too early.
@@docpj72 Pretty big statement. Touhy has a long resume and is definitely still progressing. She would win 10 of 10 races against Masciarelli or whoever she races at this point (HS). I believe her experience at racing would is a huge advantage.
My money is on Sydney!
@@luisbarrientos9665 Why?
Please race Tuohy this year 🤞
honestly good for her. I hope she crushes every race 💕 she seems like a very sweet young woman
She is a sophomore..hope she continues improving...it would be so sad to see end up like Sara Baxter or Amber Trotter or Anita Saraki or Claudia Lane..they all disappeared in college ...to the coach please please dont destroy her and to the brother just keep what u doing you are her best shot for her to win a NCAA title in college
at this age a lot of athletes and even Speech and Debate champions are victors based on natural ability or going to a school with a huge budget and elite position. Once in college your body matures, some come back into the game after being in the military, and others simply want it more and get going. Our college football team was a feeder j.c. for USC: the athletes were usually Vietnam Vets. playing against kids. In HS debate I followed around lots of elite schools teams but by college was clobbering my heros and mopping the floors with them. You've made up your mind and want it real bad. Our best mile runner in HS was sixth man on his college cx squad!!!
Katelyn Tuohy is the competition.
A solid runner with movie star looks, and displays a very pleasing personality during interviews.
Just by looking at their form and stride, Touhy definitely has an edge. Would love to find out in reality fs.
agree
This kids a stud and a true double threat. After she won this national championship she went to the New Balance Outdoor Track and Field Nationals and won two more national titles. AND shes like one of the best basketball players in her state. And shes only a sophomore! Will be keeping my eye on her for sure.
Extreme Talent as I would like to state.
Love it.😻
Very chill for such a stunning girl. And mad talented, too. The modeling contracts can't be too far away.
Future model 😍
Really pretty girl.
She does look like a model. How tall is she. Neat young lady

Great video.
Between Sydney, Kaitlyn and Taylor Ewert USA is in good shape for the Olympics in 2024. Only problem, it's still only good enough for 7th or 8th behind all the Kenyans
More likely 2028, except for Ewert in the race walk. Female runners usually peak older, and those 3 will all be barely out of college in 2024.
yea I think they need high attitude, thin air training, so enhancing their oxygen intake, and assumption for longer races, like the kenyans have.
none of them went lol
Nice family
should've done nico young and how he went from 16:20 to 9:07 in the same year. not remotely sus
Darkstripe2 bruh what distance are you talking about
@@path0gen24 5k and 3200
Darkstripe2 13:39 3 mile and and 8:50 2 mile, he’s just the goat
icamp outside 8:40 3200 actually
Wow what a Gifted and Talented young lady. She has the mental focus, physical attributes, and relaxation capacity to remain calm during pre race. Her Brother is instrumental in her training regime and propels her to a higher competitive tier. They essentially are joined @ the hips. Her X-C and Track coach from Connecticut had it 110% correct when she realized she had something "Special" when this athlete broke the course record by 2-minutes! You cannot teach this or buy it==Either you have it or you do not. She has it and is a "Natural". ***(Former Professional & World Class Athlete, NCAA Coach, and U.S. Armed Forces National Champion and Team runner-up for the National Title)*** P.S. By the way I am an Italian American as well, and proud to state this.
Coach is badass
Anyone know what music is playing at the end when they are racing to the finish?
Why isn’t her sister in this video? She’s mad fast too
Beautiful girl.
Course is beautiful for cross
Dont sleep on CT XC bruh...
So funny how the coach think she helped when really she is an awful coach. Her brother made their workouts lmao imagine being that bad at coaching that your runners make the workouts
I don't see a problem with runners being able to have some choice in their workouts.
No wonder she won nationals they were doing 3:10 miles in practice!
are u capping?
@avbleu 🚫🐱
3:10 for a mile is impossible💀
Ella Day that makes more sense
1k
Is she Latina?
Verenice garcia I kept thinking that too
The surname is kinda italian
italian
Its ok if shes not Latina, we will claim her! Shes bad ass!
Yes. Latins were the peoples of central and southern Italy. If your of Italian ancestry u are the original latinos. Don’t by culturally appropriating please!
the girl sydney passed gave up at the end and slowed down when she should’ve and could’ve ran through and possibly tied or beat her... sucks i guess but good win for sydney
Sarah Fuentes easier said than done...
I don’t think you understand how running works, tying with someone is statistically impossible and as a runner you can tell when you’re going to lose, no matter how fast you try to close in the last couple steps you can tell whether or not you can make up a gap
she did not give up. she fought really hard actually
@RunFor OurLives exactly and she didn't even really slow down. She gave it all that she had and came up just short
She just ran out of gas!
So her brother is better than her, a national champion?
Compared to other boys he is a really good runner but not outstanding enough to be the best like his sister
Sydney is cool and all but I would have preferred to see Kaitlyn win, she’s better, interpret that as you will
Usually "better" would result in a win, no?
“Interpret that as you will”
Katelynne is so much better than Sydney. It makes me so mad seeing this cause hart would be able to destroy her on a good day
@@hallo754 mascierelli beat kelsey chmiel as well, she's ranked second in the nation, and was last year too, she is in a whole other league than Katelynn, and although I would've loved to see Katelynn beat her last year, I look forward to see who winds this year
@@hallo754 Ah yes, blame it on the weather because clearly if your dumbass had a brain you'd be able to see that on that day it was good weather so shut the fuck up.
