  • One-Twos are a fundamental, universal stealth game technique that every beginner to the genre should learn, get comfortable with, and use regularly. Not only does this technique make your gameplay experience smoother and is a skill you can carry with you to many different games, it lets you bypass the need for chain-assassinate or double-assassinate type progression unlocks, or even stay undetected more effectively in games that don't have them at all.

    Once I started to figure out one-twos years ago when I started playing stealth games, it completely revolutionized how I play. This technique will instantly make you more dangerous and also play faster since you have a simple and reliable way to take out 2 guards that are even semi close without wasting too many resources or time trying to figure out a plan. Stuff like this, SSI, and other lures is what separates your Skyrim stealth archer dabblers from the Master Assassins. This may seem super simple to stealth game players like all of us here but I've watched people who are no strangers to games waste limited multi takedown abilities on 2 guards or starting a fight with a multi takedown when they could have easily used stuff like one-twos and smoke to end the encounter in stealth just as quickly.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  Před 8 měsíci +6

      Yeah! I've seen so much of the same from hopping around on new player streams, yes indeed. Really hoping this video gets seen by a lot of players who'll have their gaming experience change and feel so much better, I want to make Assassin's Creed stuff still, but I'll be trying to use Mirage to explain universal concepts that apply to more games as well, if I can.
      There's a bunch of cool knowledge that makes stealth more fun and less scary for people, I just have to think of what it all is since a lot of it is automatic when I play.

    I'd say that one-twos can even be applied in non-stealth games such as with beat-em-ups like Sifu (yes, it's a beat-em-up, not a fighting game, Game Awards, lol). You can stun an enemy far away from you using a throwable item, while you focus on the enemy in front of you, and then you move on and deal with the enemy you stunned beforehand to finish the encounter. Heck, I'd argue than one-twos can be applied to a lot of PvE games in general. Once you see and plan your strats like that, it really is a game-changer.

    • @LeoKRogue

  • @pivotguydc1149

    Fairly simple concept that surprisingly few players use. Thanks for pointing it out. I started using it on my own without thinking esp while playing AC Unity and Origins - "If I take out guard 1 then guard 2, guard 2 might see me. But if I take out guard 2 then guard 1, there's no way guard 1 will see me. Guard 2 it is."
    Through the sheer fun of how this usually plays out in any game, it soon becomes subconscious. Hopefully more players understand the basic tenets of stealth gameplay thanks to your vids!

    After playing so many stealth games, I learned this method on my own. Still it feels nice when someone gives tips on how to be stealthy because stealth is just a mechanic of big games now and full stealth games are a niche genre. I was going to subscribe to you but then I found out I am already subscribed 😂
    Another thing you can make a quick video about (if not done already) is snap shooting multiple targets before they get alerted. It's fairly simple as shown in one of the clips in this video but I found it hard to do it with consistency.

  • @joseortizreflects
    @joseortizreflects Před 8 měsíci +5

    I already knew about one-twos by hearing you talk about it in previous videos and by watching a lot of other content creators use it. Still, it was nice to hear you explain it so clearly in this short vid.
    One-twos is an ability that completely revolutionized the way I play stealth games because, as you said, you can accomplish it by combining more than just melee or range takedowns. I'm playing Shadwen right now, in which you don't have any range weapon but you get a lot of traps and you can use the environment against enemies by throwing barrels on them and other stuff like that. Throw a barrel at one guard and then air assassinate another and it feels so satisfying to pull of.
    I started using one-twos with companions in games like AC Brotherhood, Revelations and III, and it works. Ironically, I would first use the Brothers in those games to shake archers off my back and save my life when overwhelmed in combat, but now I consider them more thoughtfully in my strategies and it feels so satisfying to have Ezio take down his target while his pupils handle the re-enforcement long before they even realize there is a problem happening. 😁

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  Před 8 měsíci +2

      It really does change the way you start seeing game-worlds, paths and approaches that seemed locked off or impossible suddenly become open to you just because you know how to do this. Seeing two guards and knowing you can defeat them with such a trick even before you have any fancy unlocks almost feels a bit like cheating, which is a devious feeling every good stealth game should spark in the player. Of course, level designers know we do this, they watch our videos too, so you do see them put in _more_ guards in some spaces. You definitely need different tools for those. 😅

  • @MahkRonAKash
    @MahkRonAKash Před 8 měsíci +2

    I am so glad this is a recognized mechanic. I have always done this as a sort of personal skill, as you say! I always felt like a God as a younger kid playing Far Cry or something with two guards lookin' at each other. The game has no intended way to kill both quick enough to avoid suspicion. Then when I shoot an arrow, and it pops a headshot, and I click RS for a takedown, I just grin like I'm agent 47.
    Of course now I'm much more cool about it, yet I still adore the ability. Basically just tail a helpless guard, and his friend goes, "Wait there's someone behind y-" Silent bullet to head, knife the guy I've been following like a stalker.
    If you figured it out for yourself, it's so much more rewarding.

  • @ht0sia

    one-twos are extremely powerful and I love them so much! I'm so happy to finally see someone actually doing an educational video on this technique! so many players are going to learn about it so much faster than me and are going to start implementing it in their own gameplay so much earlier.
    and to be honest I have learned them on my own, because of how I started to dissect every game in terms of gameplay techniques such as this one after watching some of your videos back a few years ago, these videos made me learn to be curious about mechanics of every game and made me able to find mechanics that are universal for every game of the stealth genre and I'm so grateful to you for this.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  Před 8 měsíci +2

      I'm so glad, thank you for the nice comment. I think this is how most people probably learn them, yeah, because it's not a technique I've ever heard actually highlighted and showcased on its own. Really useful though, there's a proper "before and after" we start using them as players, I think.

    I totally think you should do a series similar to the style and pace of this video; core fundamentals/ "first things first" vids for stealth-action games that elevate your already existing skills.
    I think most of us who started playing stealth games at a young age would have naturally developed this technique into our game routines, but for those who are perhaps inexperienced with this genre, I think it would be a fantastic resource to consult

      I used to think so too, actually. I eventually learned that until you pull it into your mind as a formal tactic, a lot of beginners actually don't think to use it as regularly and effectively as they could be.
      I also think the sheer amount of complaints from players who miss chain-takedowns or double-assassinations in games that don't have them speaks for itself. I can watch them play or stream and in places where they _could_ avoid detection with a one-two, many of them just don't realize it's even a possibility.
      With this video I'm hoping to give a gentle nudge and reminder to those players who maybe aren't using it as much as they could be, and help them have a more fun experience.

    Once you get used to this you can take your multi-kills a lot farther without the need for area of effect gadgets or abilities. In Ghost Recon: Breakpoint you can place up to three sync shots (more with consumable drones) that execute as soon as you fire your weapon. That's three hostiles handled by your teammates + one by a headshot + one with a takedown for a total of five. While playing as the Echelon class you can use an aimed headshot to get the attention of the second guy in the group and trigger a reflex headshot upon entering his line of sight, stop aiming then start aiming again as fast as you can double click to snap to him, shoot, then take down a third with your knife. The most headshots I've been able to get using bullet time in Watch_Dogs without being attacked by my melee target is three + you'll get a gun takedown during the split second that he almost sees you for a total of four. In Assassin's Creed: Unity you can aim a phantom blade at a distant target while standing next to two adjacent ones, then double assassinate them as soon as you fire. What if your melee doesn't have the capability to instantly take down your target like MGS3? That's fine, throw the guy at melee range, shoot the distant one while he's on the ground, then hold up or execute the first one before he can get back up. I like to call this juggling. What if we don't have time to aim a precise shot, but a different projectile or shot placement causes a stun effect? That's a good start, shooting people in the legs is a great way to buy time in The Last of Us, but we need to think carefully about target prioritization. It may be tempting to stun two guys, then take out the first one in the chain because his stun duration is going to wear off sooner, but this would be a mistake. If you try to switch back and forth between the two guys on every action you're wasting a lot of motion. It's better to let the first one sit while you finish dealing with the second entirely, then come back to him. You can always use another stun if you're running out of time. If the mechanics work the same way in stealth and combat, then the skills transfer over. Once you know how to significantly delay a detection, you know how to significantly delay *damage.* Time is the most valuable resource here. Really analyze those fight scenes from John Wick and you'll see where I learned this mindset. Nobody can shoot John because they're too busy stumbling around injured, getting thrown into walls, or they've had their guns stolen from them. John Wick is a *master* at creating time gaps to trivialize difficult killshots and takedowns, and you can be too

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Knife retrieval is amazing, yeah, and both players who use one-twos _and_ chain assassinate users will both appreciate it, since chain-assassinate _actually_ takes your knives in this game, which I think is cool.

      @@LeoKRogue I agree. It adds a new layer to stealth. In Valhalla we had the magic respawning axes but here you actually have to commit to a chain assassination. Sometimes, yeah. Some animations can take a little longer, I find. It's also tougher if they're staring at each other or having a conversation, you'd still want a one-two for those. Other than that, one knife and one kill is just way snappier and quicker than melee animations on both, if there are only two. So it will always be worth doing to improve general pacing and how quickly you move through an area, as well.

    Extremely helpful tactic. Been using it for a long time without even knowing what it's called 💀. Btw you should make parkour and stealth guides for Mirage like you made for Unity, 'cause your Unity guides were the best gaming guides I've ever watched. On a side note, do you have crouch/dive/parkour down as a hold input or a toggle input in Mirage? Hold input works the best for freerunning, but it really messes up stealth as crouch aiming and crouch dodging becomes harder

    • @LeoKRogue

      They truly are. A simple tech anyone can use, from beginners to advanced players. • @tktxlegend4540
    @tktxlegend4540 Před 8 měsíci

    I agree with the sentiment of not trusting chain kill assist mechanics, especially the one in AC Mirage. That thing is more inconsistent than the breakfall mechanic from Unity. One minute it won't let you throw a knife at a guard 10 feet away from the guard you just assassinated and the next it'll have you hurling a knife at a guard a football field away as opposed to assassinating the guard that was in whisper distance.
    More often than not, the chain kill ability in Mirage will break your stealth attempt and force you into combat. Its much better to just use one twos and assasins focus instead.

    As much as I love the new Hitman trilogy, doing a one-two isn’t very practical on a non lethal run in those games.
    If there was a door with two guards standing next to it, throwing an object at the first guard to knock them out would cause the second guard to have witnessed a crime which lowers your overall rating at the end of a mission even if they didn’t specifically see it was you who did it. You can kill the second the guard and that removes any witnesses but that means killing a non target which also lowers your rating. It’s more practical to distract one guard so their back is turned and then take the other guard while the first one is busy with the distraction.
    Ig that’s what I love about stealth games, that mix between patience, speed and timing to pull off a satisfying move

    Here’s to Red taking cue from Mirage. I don’t mind a big open world but focus on cities over nature. A city game is how Red differentiates itself from Ghost of Tsushima. Ubi can’t compete with SP when it comes to a nature game where you run around the wilderness like a dhead.

      Honestly, I think Red should just take cues from its own "lineage," assets and knowledge, rather than pulling things from another game that doesn't have much to do with its own paradigms. We wouldn't want Mirage to take cues from Odyssey, would we? Same idea here, each game-type should lean hard on and bolster what it excels at.
