AC3-Rogue | Rope Dart Tutorial

  • Hey guys, I recently received a request from ThreeProphets to explain how to use rope darts, so I decided to make video out of it. The making of this video made me realize that I won't be able to make an AC3 stealth guide video, but rather a series, if I ever get around to it, because both the depth and jank of every system in the game require serious explanation in order to be fully understood. Hope this video helps people out with their rope dart use, and as always, I will see you next time.

    I remember hunting challenges in rogue being pathetically easy with the rope dart (not that they're particularly difficult without it), it even kills deer, wolfs etc. in one hit and other than with the gun, you still get the kill even if the animal is just about to run behind some obstacle, if you're able to trigger the animation, it dies. doesn't even consume a dart

    The whip in Liberation is identical to the rope dart, except it has infinite ammo and allows you to pull enemies in for an instant kill punch instead of flooring them. When hanging enemies, they will drop to the ground as soon as you release them, so keep this in mind if you need someone not to see your kill. The targeting in stealth is a bit finicky, but other than that it's completely overpowered

      Hearing in AC3 is pretty weird. It operates on a possible-line-of-sight basis, meaning that if an enemy could see the kill should he turn to look at it, he will hear the body hit the ground after the kill. If the body is out of LoS, it’s silent for them. AC3 is a weird game, dude.

    • @jcers
      @jcers  Před 3 lety +14

      @@ThreeProphets basically. The approach in AC3 is never “can anyone see what I’m doing”, it’s “could anyone see what I’m doing”. AC3 tried so hard to improve the realism and depth in the stealth, but it did so with the finesse of a toddler cutting paper snowflakes with safety scissors, and a large portion of what we’re left with is basically a shell of what could have been, even more so than what happened with Unity.

      Thanks! Here’s my best advice:
      Taking out groups of enemies in the Kenway games can be done in a multitude of ways. The most general method is to find a way to group them all up together and then smoke them out before shanking all of them. In AC3, you can use trip mines to take our patrol groups, and you can roll powder kegs into groups of enemies and shoot them in every one of those games. Black Flag in particular has tons of powder kegs lying around in ways that can legitimately blow up an entire city block, so keep an eye out for those. Rogue also adds the grenade launcher, which is incredibly helpful for dealing with groups of enemies.

    I know this isn't ropedart related but it's still stealth related. My question is: can you throw smoke bombs in Black Flag and Rogue the way you could in AC III? I ask because I try, but neither Edward, nor Shay seem to even aim while the smoke bomb is activated. The only thing they do is throw it at their feet, and that reduces a lot of capacity for strategies.

    • @jcers
      @jcers  Před 11 měsíci +1

      No, you can’t throw smoke in 4 and Rogue. The only thing close to this is that you can drop bombs off of ledges by having Edward and Shay lean over the ledge

    • @jcers
      @jcers  Před 3 lety +1

      Sure! So, while the way that I explained how to do them in this video works, it’s actually not the best way. I’ll follow up here.
      AC3:
      Make sure you have either a small weapon or a sword active as your melee weapon and a pistol or a rope dart active as your tool. While during a killchain, hold down the tool button while Connor finishes a killing animation and target a nearby enemy. If that enemy would die if you were to killchain to them normally, the double tool kill will proc.
      AC4/Rogue:
      Have any weapon type other than unarmed equipped for melee and a pistol/rope dart equipped for your tool. The process itself is done identically to AC3.
      Ubisoft actually put out a combat tutorial vid for AC3 around the time of its release, I’ll link it here if you want to see more info: czcams.com/video/ZchVIEbifQM/video.html

    Okay man, I am having trouble with side ejecting during wall runs in the Kenway games. I know I have to do them early on, but I can't do it consistently. Please help!

    • @jcers
      @jcers  Před 3 lety +1

      It depends on the height of the wall run. If the ledge Connor grabs is too low, the frames that you can cancel out of the animation are basically nonexistent. You'll want to make sure that the ledge Connor reaches at the apex of his wall run is near the maximum possible height to give yourself the best possible chance at achieving a cancel. However, even then, the game doesn't always like to cooperate, so that's just one of the few big downgrades that came with the engine change in AC3. Hope that helps!

    • @thatsaweirdone
      @thatsaweirdone Před 3 lety +1

      @@jcers yes, it'll help. I suspected the same thing too. One more reason to love the old parkour system. At least that had a consistent wall run so you could easily memorise when to eject.
      Also, sometimes I can't seem to eject towards a certain direction. For eg. I can back eject and side-eject at the right side fine, but I can't side-eject on the left for some reason. And this is consistent too, to some extent
