So, what do you guys think? Obviously this game is an evolution from the original, very different feel to it as the devs transition to a less-intimate "macro" city-builder. I'm fascinated, personally.
I tend to prefer macro city builders so I’m his is a win for me!
I like the difference in scale. The politics/laws reminds me of Tropico and The Guild
interesting. I'd like to see some playthroughs of it to be honest.
@@peterk2735 yes the scale is a big part of why I never played the first one, and the politics sound extremely fun
Imo i think there could be potential for pergaps repealing laws? That would be an interesting concept. Also i think it would be cool it we had more than 2 factions at the same time
Edit: by more than 2 factions i mean the base. I alredy saw workers and lords in options so it would be cool to see how the game would look with all 4 active at once
I can see people being not too happy with the new direction, but personally I like idea of "progressing" and not simply rehashing first game.
In my opinion they did the best possible concept. They didn’t just make an upgraded version of the first one(because it doesn’t need it). They made basically different game but connected in the idea to the first one. And if you want to play something like the first game… you have the perfectly fine first game to replay
Yes, I'll agree with that, and I'll enjoy both, but I was hoping for something bigger/better, as opposed to something different for different's sake.
There's a middle ground in there, I think... But I still think this will be good.
from what it looks like its the same game with more of a political take more towards the end of the game
@@MrJustmeyou because frostpunk 1 was famously anti politics, what with the slave camps, martial law, and heretic ruled cities based on your choices
It's not progressing, it's just making a visual novel instead of a city-builder.
YAY I already feel like I’m freezing to death while working a 24 hour extended shift in the coal mines! 😄
Coal? You still use coal? You dirty peasants! We only use black, slick, bubbly oil here!
Gotta keep it cool!
With sawdust meals?
Would you like a sawdust ration after that shift
I'm more of a moonshine soup kinda guy, personally
I clicked as soon as I saw this. As a person who doesn't really do City-Builders, Frostpunk is the exception and I love it. The visuals, music, and story... God, the story. Pravus got me into the game, and I am excited for this new game. This is hopefully my pick for GOTY.
I wholeheartedly agree, although it was DDRJake that got me into it. City builders arent for me but this is that one exception
@@Dale_NightkingAh yes. DDRJake building "Winter Hells" Generator was also a good reason I played the game.
PSA: There are multiple research trees you can switch between at the bottom of the research tree, Pravus only used the survival research tree but there are two others available.
They are definitely needed, too, like disease control and more dense housing capabilities.
Disease gets rough when you near 20k pop
Just a reminder: overdrive doesnt use up more coal. It adds strain to the generator which can cause malfunctions if it goes too high.
it however does increase that heat output :D to help you reach the demand..
Frostpunk 2 and Manor Lords, most anticipated games this year.
is Manor lords a similar vibe to Frostpunk in city building?
@@DayWatches nah it's more like banished crossed total war
Home world 3
@@A.Eckhardt2248 It has nothing to do with total war. Stronghold is a better comparison.
path of exile 2 ?
I love how Pravus didn't even look for ways to expand his stockpile even though he was told numerous times during the game that everything not going into the stockpile will go to waste, Classic Pravus xD Great showing off the game it looks freakin awesome. Much love
frostpunk was how i found this channel happy to see it return.
Ah, fond memories of Pravus completely losing his wig as the thermometer just kept dropping.
Noticed this trend on several videos I watched: People don't ever check the Economy and Society tabs in the research screen. Maybe they could make it more obvious there are 3 research trees by changing the position of the tab buttons to look more like it looks in the Laws screen.
Maybe its not yet implemented
Or maybe people should pay more attention to what they doing.
Is nice to see that districts can be edited and you can add buildings wherever you want. This increase flexibility a lot.
First Manor Lords, now Frostpunk 2... Is this Chrisms or what? This is great!
I like the direction the game is going with this preview. Really like the districts and passing laws mechanics. Look forward to seeing a series of this when the game launches.
Hyyyyyyype! Doot! Doot!
Edit: So at first I was put off, but actually I think they’ve done an amazing job of making a Dieselpunk city builder in terms of the basic mechanics. My only significant gripe is the auto-generated roads that go *crazy* places. Please let us edit these so we can better shape how we want the city to look…
I don’t think it’s impossible to survive, you just need to build colonies. Which makes sense, although I do question the use of the buildings if so much value is placed in colonies. Which… don’t look or ‘feel’ as cool. Okay. Maybe that 300 day storm is intentional.
It does seem as if just like Frostpunk, taking the moral high ground is clearly the best option. You can crush people below your booted heel, but… you’ll just get less.
It's definitely possible to survive, the temperature is only slightly lower than the first whiteout you're hit with, you can also see that the temperature will rise. Part of the issue is that the beta limits some of the research, like I'm pretty sure the generator upgrade research would help quite a bit, but it's not available in the beta. The other part of the issue is, like you said, outposts/colonies. This game definitely requires a much bigger focus on exploring the frostland, as your resource deposits are limited. I managed to find the location of the oil just after the first whiteout, but discovering it immediately ends the demo.
This is not the expected agenda of my night, but so it is!
I hope the developers really did that on porpuse; they give you the beautiful side of the new game great graphics, the whole social problems, the new building mechanic, ecc...
Until they hit you whit a bat composed of the reason why "The city must survive at all cost" quote beacame a staple in this game.
And they do it in the most brutal way tbh.
SAID ID BE HERE NO MATTER WHAT!
SO EXCITED ITS ALL CAPS ON PURPOSE!!!
I did like the FP1 Graphics a bit.. more I would say? This feels a bit more.. distant? Not sure.
I honestly didn't think I had enough attention span in me to finish the 47 minute video but damn, that's one good game. The number of choices you can make and the consequences it may result to sounds exciting.
The sound of the ice freezing over the camera as the temperature dropped in frostpunk 1 was really cool - i hope this effect makes a return
I very much love that it seems you did a lot of research before making a video. You taught me a lot about frostpunk 1 and it helps that you explain what youre doing and know what youre doing instead of jumping in just to put out a video. Praise Pravus!
I'm so excited for a full series of this, the first frostpunk is what got me into pravus and now I can't wait for more
I decided not to play the beta, and wait for the full release with the story and what not, but I am very grateful to hear your insights!
So far, I am liking what I'm seeing. The interactions between different decisions, the dynamic government with external pressures and back-and-forth decision changes, the effect politics has on infrastructure...
I've always believed the best part of Frostpunk is the societal drama, with the city builder being a backdrop to demonstrate the causes and consequences of that drama, and I think Frostpunk 2 will excel at that!
I saw this video on the subfeed and immediately went to play it and it is 6am. I already finished the preview and I'm gonna come back here to watch your playthrough cuz I wanna see your reactions too!
The visuals... THE VISUALS!!!! oh man its so sick! Cant wait for a release!
You serious? The visuals are way worse than the first game. Gone is the Steam Clockwork Menu, replaced with some gray bars. The districts themselves seem to have less detail than a single building in Frostpunk 1.
Finally!! I cannot express how much ive been waiting for this.
And seeing it with Pravus makes it even better!!
Lol, the excitement in your voice in the into is so good 👍
saw the title and my reaction was the same as the beginning of your intro. omg omg omg
I can't fucking wait to play the shit out of this
I am so looking forward to the release and see what you do Pravus.
Thanks for the preview!
lets goooooooooooooooo!
I watched all your frostpunk 1 gameplay, it was amazing.
Saw the beta go live, was waiting for this
Awesome. Glad you got an early view for us
I cannot wait to play this sometime during winter and an irl snowstorm just blankets my area. : ) Seriously, Lost Planet 1, WoW: Wrath of the Lich King, and Frostpunk, first played them then about in a week at most, snowstorm. Hell of a coincidence but I believe it.
Its some Jumaniji level stuff!
Amazing video, im looking forward to this game's launch!
Yes! I'm so happy for this! I loved the first game so much and I'm so excited for this!
I actually really like the direction they took with this installment! I'm very much looking forward to it!
Wow, amazing to see how different a game this is from the first game. Brave of the devs to do more than just make an updated version, looks amazing.
ive seen frostpunk before but ive never actually played it and looking at this now i realize how deep and complex everything is this is incredible
I have not been this excited for a new game in a long time
FROSTPUNK IS BACK!!!! I am SO excited for this game and the Pravus series that is going to result out of this!
37:59 the sirens and alarms really sell this lol
34:54 I agree, either a tooltip or allow you to open the Tech Tree/ Society Laws tree from there
I thought the new game would tone down the city building aspect a lot, Im glad that I was wrong. Now im even more excited about it.
Given the space on the Faction bar at the bottom. it looks like there's room for at most 12 total factions. Good luck juggling that!
(I say this as someone who's probably going to get FP2 soonish)
I love the guard mechanic, being able to put down riots or disperse rallies & stop crime makes it very immersive
I would really love to see a media adaptation for the franchise in the future too! More likely a TV show since the scale and timeframe is so large
Wow the new LAW system is amazing! I DID NOT EXPECT THAT!
Looks really good, can't wait to try it out!
I could feel the excitement in your voice!
Was pretty surprised how short the 300 weeks was in terms of play time. I really like the vote mechanic. Can't wait to play the full game on the 25th of july. Bit long of a wait sadly.
I absolutely love that they actually made the second part more of a continuation of the original. It’s not just the same game with the same problems, you as the steward have made your way through the early stages of a settlement and managed it to the best of your abilities and now that the population has grown (massively that is, I managed to survive the great storm with 20 people I believe), you face new challenges in the face of politics. That is what you want to see from a sequel, development. Well done by devs, and a nice preview, thanks!
Oh man I can't wait for this game. I couldn't afford the beta rn so I'm excited to see what Pravus can cook here
not going to lie, i did not like the way they have scaled things up. I liked to watch people walk out into the snow to build and collect things in the first game. this feels like people are just a resource like coal or wood and not living people.
I had the opposite reaction actually. I thought in the first game humans were just another ressource which fit in witht the theme of surviving at all costs. Yes you saw them but really they were still disposable and subject to you whims.
Here it feels like the concerns of the population matter more in the grand scheme of things. The people are given a voice. Yes its more abstract but you are no longer basically a dictator. You are a politician.
The new law system looks great, though I miss the old interface with smoky esthetic a bit
💙💙💙
❤️❤️❤️
i like your video
about the game
i think that if two factions have the same idea, then you should be able to make both happy by choosing that idea
this would also create interesting tensions
as in you have a choice between 2 technologies, 1 being slightly better than the other, but the slightly worse one is supported by multiple factions
It's here!
It's finally here
the game looks... mouthwatering. It's beautiful.
i have to shake my head every time i hear someone say its "just a beta" and "not representative of the final product" and "things may change". to remind people what a beta is: the point where all the games content has been put together, story finished, mechanics implemented, etc etc and the game is ready for final testing just before it is pushed onto the market. thats right its the phase where the completed game is tested and polished but otherwise its in almost a completely finished state.
with that said i cant wait, love me some frostpunk
I do like that Frostpunk 2 is not just more Frostpunk.
Love the look of the tech tree.
But, seems like there may have been a missed opportunity to give more than just 2 variants of each tech, so there's more variation based on what factions you've unlocked.
I think that will probably be a feature in the full game. I don't see 6 or 8 factions agreeing on 2 methods for everything.
AAAAAAHHHH YES! HERE WE GO!
I love frostpunk because it's a resource management game, its city building was perfectly sized too. the new game isn't the direction I would have taken
It's finally happening!!
THE CITY MUST NOT FALL! I missed videos about Frostpunk
This looks so fun. I guess I have to wait until it releases but I am definitely going to play this.
WOW i thought FP2 will be massively complicated like Factorio level complicated but this seems chill! I'm in!
We living good in the winter with this one 🗣🗣🗣
Foragers and Machinest seem to be the new name for the workers and engineers.
No they’re political parties the machinist were the original inhabitants of the city who survived with progress and machinery the foragers were a conclave of people that survived outside the city by adapting to their environment then moved in
The Foragers and Machinists are obviously the workers and the engineers from the original game, thos they got divided up trough two political parties
Having played it myself there seems to be a slider that lets you chose your starting 2 factions.
I've been waiting on this for so long, the original Frostpunk is one of my all-time favourite games. An oddity to my usual gaming diet.
31:55 You say the whiteout is not as bad as the Great Storm, but that's only in terms of how it affects the city. In absolute terms, it is much worse. The Great Storm lasted 10-15 days, while the whiteout lasts 30 weeks, or 210 days.
Finally I have been waiting for so long
Pravus Beta on FP2?! Lets goooooo!
I feel like it's an overkill in complexity. Amazing work.
Nice. Cant wait for the whole game
great video! I watched until 15 minute mark but I think ill stop to not spoil my own experience
thanks for ths]is video! so fun to watch this
Oh I've been waiting for more on this game to be shown
Praise be to Pravus!
Okay, this looks awesome 💯💯
Good job Stuart u did us good the City must SURVIVE!!!
IM SO HYPED!!!
Yeah that was my biggest gripe with what I saw so far. It doesn't really tell you much information whenever choices are given as to laws and policies people are asking for. Same thing when you are negotiating. There were several times I accidentally promised a law that overwrote a different law I did without remembering, making people mad. Negotiating also doesn't let you see all the options so you can pick and choose when debating on laws, so I need to back all the way out, find the law they are wanting, and see all the choices and their effects before making a final decision about negotiating.
Aside from that, I actually enjoyed the game a lot more than the original. I'm very excited for when it comes out!
The musi, vibe and tension this game gives are immense. I wish the sequel kept that make the game more immerssive and fun
Omg ! Can't wait ❤
Hell. Yes. So excited for this.
Never played the first frostpunk but I love how the second one is looking and will at least try it out.
Why not try the 1st?
@@Mvb91 I probably will before the second one comes out.
@@SkyHigh64 Very wise, it's a true gem
@@Mvb91 never really paid much attention to it but then I found out not to long ago that a second one was coming out and after seeing some gameplay of both has definitely made me give it a second look
I am so SO excited for this.....I can't wait to make a technocracy in the harsh white of the frostlands
It's happening!
I remember when i first played the first game. I used to put the AC in the coldest setting just so i could be immersed
Damn I wish I watched this when you posted it I would of bein able to play an extra 3 days
34:50 So just like most politicians am I right? XD
I've been waiting for so long for this...
LET'S FRECKING GOOOOOOOOOOOO
Yea yes yes. I was waiting for this.
I am excited for this. Great videos but what happened to the audio about 9 minutes in?
always loved this game's sensational music
I feel like I'm gonna love the sequel even more I can't wait
LOOKS EPIC. can't wait
