- 10 years before Samuel Jackson read, "Go the Fuck to Sleep", the Reverand Jesse Jackson read, "Green Eggs and Ham" by Dr. Seuss for SNL. I have edited it to read like a children's book in the same way I read stories to kids on video for DadsDecoded.com.

That's a poker face to be reckoned with. Brilliant.
0:28-0:32 he's trying not to laugh
Brilliant parody of .......himself.
His serious deadpan makes it. Hilarious.
I was in college, and was slightly stoned when this came on. I thought I was going to rupture something I was laughing so hard.
Being stoned in the 90s was always so risky too hahaha
It's that preacher cadence. This is so good.
Yes!
And he was just starting to get wound up there. I wonder how his finish was. It must’ve sounded like fire and brimstone.
This is actually more the real Jesse Jackson. I've known him my entire life as he is a friend of my Dad. He is actually quite funny. (They know each other because he met him by chance and he thanked my Dad who was one of the first white business owners to name a black person as a Vice President of his company someone Jesse recommended and was with my Dad and his company for 40 plus years until he sold it)
lol, your dad was *one of the first white guys to accept Jessie Jackson shaking him down*, I’m sure it was mutually beneficial for both of them. I have no doubt Jesse Jackson is a funny and personable guy, he just spun the fact he was in a picture with MLK Jr. into an entire career as a shakedown artist and fake activist. He even came to the town I am from and brought in busloads of demonstrators from out of town to stir up a small situation into national news lol. He bullied his way into some very lucrative positions for himself and many of his friends and cohorts… not through hard work but through shakedowns and threats
I know this post is old, but it's actually sweeter than you think. He did this the week Dr Seuss died in tribute, and he did it as serious as possible, and it was HILLARIOUS, and the audience loved it and it was HILLARIOUS, and we all know Seuss would have loved it even more. He only breaks one little smile during the whole thing, it's a strangely powerful moment that can make us all laugh.
I remember seeing this live on tv. I laughed my head off...lol.
Samuel Littlejohn Jr. same here. I was in college, and we might have been chemically enhanced..... I swear I thought was I was going to rupture something from laughing so hard
Samuel Littlejohn Jr. Me too! I was on the floor, surprised and laughing! Still amazed he did it- I mean, hell, it was a parody of himself as a speaker really. Oh the days when snl had a fun and adventurous sense of humor!
He was either really reading Green Eggs and Ham, or Steam Vegs and Spam! Or something close to it, because you can catch his mouth almost forming the words. Check out Martin's TV show. He reads Cole and Tommy a bedtime story.
Me too! I was watching with my mom and she didn’t believe me that it was actually Jesse Jackson. 30 years later I still get tears in my eyes from laughter
What was great about this skit was that absolutely nobody in that studio even knew Jesse Jackson was there outside of Kevin Nealon who anchored Weekend Update and Lorne Michaels. It was a great surprise to everyone and completely unscripted. Jesse just absolutely nailed that reading.
I was watching SNL when he did this and yes it was a total surprise and totally hilarious.
I seem to recall it was much longer than this small clip and as it went on it got both more stirring and more funny!
@@kareneverman9256 Also in this episode is Michael Jordan on the Stuart Smalley show and the Happy Funball skit.
@@solracer66 Yes! I thought he read the part where he indeed ate the green eggs and ham and basically repeated everything, but him actually willing to eat it with everything he said he wouldn't eat it alongside. I still remember this moment so much. I always loved Jesse Jackson, he always was both calm, funny, eloquent with a charisma that just got you. I always wondered how he didn't win the presidency to be honest.
Whether or not you like his politics, this is funny!
I love his politics, and his intellect. And yes, it is funny.
Jesse was actually hilarious on SNL. I had forgotten how funny he was
This is as priceless today as the day I saw it live. Never was a Jesse Jackson fan, but give him enormous credit for being willing to do this.
Agreed!!
I wonder why you wasn’t a Jesse Jackson fan........
@@crystalvegansmith5728 He was too much of a self-promoter -- my wife worked at a plant that went on strike and he went to give a speech there for the striking workers but charged them $25,000 for the speech. Plus his willingness to overlook offenses committed by his supporters made him look like a hypocrite.
@@donatist59 how politicians are tbh
Wow. Where did you get that info?
This is still a stone cold classic. Thanks, @skolander
for editing and sharing.
Never been read better
I saw this live on TV (Saturday Night Live). This is hilarious 😆. LMAO 😆!
I love how he's trying to not laugh 😅 even the most stoic and iconic of people who have shaped the world know that laughter, and a bit of great fun in light of one's self, is so important!
One of the most profound speeches of the twentieth century.
YES! SOmeone oughta buy TV time to air this so we all can stop taking ourselves so damn seriously!
Ole jessie at his finest.
love love love.
"keep hope alive"
~~the reverend jesse jackson
Ah...back when SNL was actually funny! How I miss it.
I loooove this by Jessie Jackson too funny.
Old but gold.
Drop the mike here...
This is FUCKING HILARIOUS !!!! This shows that JJ really does have a great sense of humor !!
True!!!
Why curse?? Especially when talking about a Reverend
After viewing a video about "PDA: Pathological Demand Aversion", I thought I'd look this up. It's too bad half of the skit is missing. I would really like to have seen the entire thing. If you have a copy of the full monologue on VHS or something, please please please upload it let nothing stop you. Go to any lengths!
>takes his glasses off
*Oh shit this is getting serious*
This has been read by Presidents, Nobel winners, celebrities....but this is The Greatest reading of Green Eggs. Not. Even. Close.
Preach it!!
This is supposed to be a dialog. I want to hear Travolta and Samuel L. reading this.
This was the first book I ever read-at age five, I think. I really remember that moment.
I also remember seeing the skit-brilliant! (I was b. 1964)
I just found out my niece is having a baby boy-she is like my little sister, so I am doubly delighted.
Oh, the places we will go!
You ruined the opening joke by cutting off "Rather than read from 1st and 2nd Samuel..."
and by cutting off the end.
Everyone always cuts the best parts...but why?
The Reverend Jesse Jackson: The question is moot
Like him or not, Jesse was something to behold.
Now I’m inspired. Even I will try.
Didn’t he read the full story? So where’s the rest of it?
He did. I think the full version is out here somewhere but it's definitely not as clear as this video.
This is the most serious moment of Jesse Jackson's life.
This is the best!!!!!
I remember this so well. effin epic
Wish they had the whole clip it's pretty funny
Does anyone know where I can get the original version instead of this modified one with the cuts to the book's pages? This sucks.
Just ... Awesome!
Can't seem to find the non-bootleg of this with the whole skit.
I remember this back in 1984....
'91, right after Seuss passed away.
Rerun in honor of Seuss?
I thought this was such a tremendously funny and touching way to salute Dr Seuss after his death.
how could this be racist if Rev. Jesse Jackson approved of it?
" I do not like them any-hwhere."
LEGEND!!!
In my failed memory he smacked the table and said, "I WILL NOT EAT THEM, SAM-I-AM
This is a classic! 🤣😅🤣
Measured speech
I agree with Jesse.
I remember seeing this when it originally aired. I'm guessing it was 1994, right? Nonetheless, I saw it when it originally aired.
i saw this in high school and i graduated in 86 i think it was 82
I thought it was 2000/2001 time frame.
@@RaquelSantos-hj1mq this was in 1991 right after Theodore Seuss passed away
@@jamiestever4795 you're only off by 10 years
truly funny by Jesse Jackson
I never saw this one.
Classic!
Comedy gold
Is this an excerpt? Did he read more? I bet Dr. Seuss, a subversive at heart, probably loved this.
Classic. Didn't he go to the end though?
+tubewatcher38 He did - this is incomplete
tjdinvt Tx thought so.
Jess should dress as Starbuck on Battlestar Gallactica.
I just cackled at my desk. LOL
Nice!
It might service him more to include the entire dialog.
Feels just like church.
Wish they would put up his other skit: The Answer Is Moot.
I can't find that online but it was a hilarious game show parody he did when hosting SNL in 84(?). Still remember it.
Lol
Wow. Let's cancel Dr. Seuss?????
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I despise the guy and everything he stands for but he did a great job on that show.
I wish they hadn't ruined it by adding pictures from the book. I'd prefer the original.
It's spelled "reverend", but still...epic.
People getting a little mad when I tell the truth this is one of the reasons I voted for him
LOL!
This proves Dr. Seuss is not racist.
😂😂😂
FUCKEN HILARIOUS!!
john conner my sentiments exactly!
@@skolander The hypocrisy is epic,
That is as funny now as it was in the 80's
90's

the laugh track?
Live audience.
Why Does He Sound Like Dr. King? 😂😂😂
Because he’s a black preacher, just as Dr. King was.

Campaign Speeches that failed
Is you tube going to block this? other people will find out the truth if they do not............
The point of the story is the end. Its a children's mentality story. Now adult.
Nobody told him
Apparently Dr Suess used to be ok by democrats........🤣
Think about it, when authority figures read similar children's stories in a campus setting, the audience listening and comprehension of book contents should be more evident over the laughter to the peculiarities.
The most coherent speech this grifter ever spoke. Jesse is woke! /s
And now they are cancelling Dr. Seuss
The only time I've ever agreed with Rev. Jesse Jackson. I do not like green eggs and ham.
take that AOC!!!
This was years before Ted Cruz's useless filibuster.
its REVEREND jesse jackson.
sad
Too bad the Left ruined this book by claiming Seuss is a racist.
Carol Carey Seuss did draw racist propaganda as part of the WWII war movement, but later turned away from such positions in Horton Hears a Who and The Sneetches. He should be celebrated as a realistic figure of tolerance rather than demonized as a racist.
Don't buy into left and right propaganda. The whole picture is more interesting than either side would have it believe.
You must know it is true or you wouldn't be all pissed off and upset. Sorry to hurt your feelings with the truth.
racism towards green eggs!
Dr Seuss and rascism lol
I REMEMBER THIS SKIT, MAN I FELL OUT
I BELIEVE SPIKE LEE WAS ON THAT NIGHT TOO
Holy crap! This is a video about "Green Eggs and Ham" by Dr. Seuss. It's funny! Or at least is was before you began raving here. Get some perspective! Figure out when your rants are appropriate or disturbingly off-topic and annoying. Do you greet your wife in the morning with, "This cereal looks delicious,Honey, and Hitler not only murdered Jews, but Gypsies and Homosexuals too!"
