I was a satellite dish installer in Marin County 20 years ago. I arrived at work one morning and was handed a work invoice for a dish install for Gregg Allman. I listened to the Allman Brothers back in the day (1970's) when I was in high school. Melissa is one of my favorite songs. Anyway, I arrived and met the legend. He was laid back and cool. My heart was racing (when you come face to face with your musical idols it happens). Stayed cool. He offered me a hit off his morning joint. I politely declined. After the install was finished, I walked him thru the operation of the system. We chatted and he revealed when he was married to Cher (yes, THAT Cher) he used to call her "Toots". She HATED that nickname. I chuckled. It is one of my cherished memories to this day. The whole day was magical for me. RIP Duane and Gregg. Peace

I think the last thing Greg needed was Cher, all the publicity photos just for the heck of publicity photos, red carpet walks, etc. He was a down to earth, genuine, Southern man with a rather tragic past and weakness for addition. He needed a very strong, steady woman who didn't seek the limelight. Not many women can put up with that severe an addict, though. Greatest blues/rock voice ever!

I mean if they "truly loved each other", they wouldn't have gotten a divorce. Cher seemed, back then and to this day, to have really loved him. Gregg on the other hand, seemed to have nothing but utter contempt for her.

Went to the Allman and Woman concert in Birmingham (England) in 77. It was pretty good as I recall. R.I.P. Gregg.

Michele J I believe that the tour did get cut early but I recall something about Cher getting tired of Gregs drinking and she just left at some point. The concert is pretty vague in my mind but I recall that most of the audience were Greg Allman fans. One dude kept shouting out “Melissa” I guess hoping to hear that well-known song. He didn’t play it but did do a couple of tracks from the past. Cher chimes in on a few tracks but this concert was more about him than her.
Martyn H I got lucky went to a Bar & Allmans were playing. In Buffalo, NY of all places. Allmans like Buffalo they played here 4 times. Also lucky Lynyrd Skynyrd came to Buffalo. Yes that Buffalo that gets 10-12 feet of snow every winter, & lost 4 Superbowls. Always WHITE CHRISTMAS IN BUFFALO.
@@jimogrady1131 I’ve been to that Buffalo. Near Niagara as I recall. I’m in Ohio these days but down South away from that snow belt. Great to see any good band in a bar!

Cher is out living them all even my baby brother passed away brain cancer and yet Cher is still here what a life. I hope shes happy sad when you can collect your memories to hold yourself together.. His voice always has that sad, soulful quality that gets me every time. Knew him in the period when they were getting divorced. He was still trying to make amends. Think he still loved her. It was a tough time. He told me that all he wanted to do was get a boat, live in it. He wore one of Duanes rings every day...

As silly as this sounds, Gregg was her first real love. And we all know how that feels. She was just a baby when she met the much older Sonny. She loved Sonny, but he was her Svengali, and the relationship almost became a case of Stockholm Syndrome..in fact that was the grounds for divorce, Cher claimed involuntary servitude. Gregg was her first adult relationship and was the beginning of Cher being able to express herself both as a grown woman and an individual.

I tell ya life goes by so fast Cher had been loved listen to this song how sad that things can burst your soul with butterflies & leave such stains . Look at these photos my I tell you it was just yesterday I was 6 yrs old watching Sonny & Cher the tabloids couldn't get enough of her and who she was dating a whirlwind of ups & downs trust me you Cher is one strong women . The day her and Sonny did I got you babe on David Letterman show there wasn't a dry eye in the house . I knew something was coming because my nana always told me when your life comes back full circle death is around the corner. My nana was a fortune teller she made a huge living people were always in line at her home for there readings she was a gift . Next thing you know Sonny loss his life in a sking accident. I can't imagine what passed through Chers thoughts however, he did at one point get Cher to that galaxy and you can believe Cher knows poverty & trust there was a time she had been falling and David Letterman was wanting to hit all over that luck to which Cher handled it even called him out before he could go there when she called him an asshole, I believe then he knew not to kick when someone is down . Ironically they became friends. If we are born again , I wonder if Cher would want to do it all over ? I love her for who I know as the celebrity as most do however, I wonder what she truly is as herself. One thing is for sure with all whom we are loosing in this business Cher must be a bit lonely there really isn't many left from her life when her time arrives all those will be awaiting her as she returns to the kismet realm of energy that she had been cast from to arrive here. One hell of a ride Cherilyn...☔
