The emotional pain of th loss of his brother drew something indescribably beautiful out from deep in Greg's core, & there is no way to explain just how amazing this recording is. But only a few seconds of listening to it will bring most to their knees in retrospective self-evaluation. It's very simply, moving.

One of the truly great David Crosby Songs .... a man that could be a pain in the ass, strong supporter of his band mates (not N.Y. when that was tried ) and of course his harmonies on Nash or Stills material = Brilliant .... but, THIS AND OTHERS made me a fan. ( Almost Cut My Hair) Gone But, Not Forgotten is he now ! Thanks to all I grew as a musician and listener.

Love this version of an ancient tune beautifully expressed by a renarjable musician whom I met, by chance during my visit to London in March 1974. We got into a conversation which led to an interesting few hours ending up in a Red Lion pub in Dawes Rd down thr road from where I was staying. At that time he introduced himself to me as Iain (his birth name). It was when I got back to Durban, South Africa, whrn I discovered that this 'Smiling Stranger' was mone other than John Martyn. A most interesting interlude with a wonderful person, I remember with much fondness.
Just lovely.
