  • "I Hate This Comparison (So I Did My Own): Rolex Sub vs. Tudor BB58":
    In this video, I tackle a comparison that's been done to death: the Rolex Submariner vs. the Tudor Black Bay 58. But unlike the usual takes, I bring my unique perspective and honest opinions to the table. Tired of the same old arguments and clichéd points, I decided to do my own in-depth analysis.
    Join me as I break down the design, build quality, movement, history, and overall value of these two iconic timepieces. I'll highlight what sets them apart, what they have in common, and ultimately, which one might be the better choice for you. Whether you're a seasoned collector or just getting into watches, this comparison will give you fresh insights and help you make an informed decision.

    I owned both watches at the same time for a few years. The Rolex was a much better watch, very well made and robust and its accuracy was perfect. But the Tudor got more wrist time It was more comfortable to wear, didn't attract unwanted attention (the Sub did and I was not comfortable wearing it in public) and the BB58, especially in the OG version, has a lot of vintage charm. I sold the Sub and kept the Tudor.

      Yup. Had a store clerk yell across a mall walk way nice watch that’s a sub right? Yeah was time to sell the blusy. The monochrome will probably be the only Tudor I ever keep. Had two others one being the OG GMT. Was too big for my tastes. I like non Rolex watches. Most people don’t know anything other then Rolex. Other brands are if you know you know. Those are the most fun interactions.

      They basically look the same from a few feet away. So that might happen with the Tudor aswell

      It's important that we each individually choose what makes us happy. I too am very happy wearing my Tudors and wear them more than any other watch. Thanks for watching and the comment.

    Great video, really fantastic comparision. I own an 114060 and I have strongly considered the 116610 date sub to get more distance from the Tudor. The problem is, it's so hard to move on from the no date sub. It's just such a great watch. I could actually see a Sub Date and No Date in the same collection. They are that good.

      You are absolutely correct. The Sub date and no date have very different vibes and could easily coexist in the same watch box.

    Thanks for the comparison Erik. I personally prefer the Sub to the BB58 (all versions), but not due to brand. It's the design of the Sub: simple, understated, and clean. Now, the new monochrome BB41 is a different matter, and could be a Sub beater (in both meanings of the term).

    'Unwanted attention' The dude below nailed it. Yup, I own both also BUT! I have to be 'aware' when I'm wearing the Sub. And quite frankly, who the hell needs that? It is a thing that has come to irritate me more and more. In terms of accuracy however, I had my 16610 serviced by Rolex last Jan. It's 4 seconds out, which is no biggy but if I want better accuracy I'll wear a 2014 Omega Seamaster 300M and which hasn't been serviced since yet is spot on...

  • @Peltwerk

    Better comparison would have been the BlackBay Monochrome which is a lot closer to the Submariner. I just picked one up yesterday and it did scratch the Rolex itch. I've have a Submariner blush, and a Wimbledon Datejust. Sold both of them. Having had and sold the sub the Tudor gets me what I want at a fraction of the price. I only went diving with the Blusy once just to say I did it. But the BlackBay is one you could dive with regularly the Sub you won't. Too many things and accidents happen on dive boats to risk a watch you can't get replaced.

      @@erikkinginnyc the Jubilee on Tudor is also different. The Rolex is flat against your skin on the inside. The Tudor is an oval all around shape. It feels more like a smoother Omega Speedmaster bracelet

    Purchased both the BLRO and the Tudor GMT, thinking the Tudor would scratch the day time use need. The Tudor lasted less than 30 days. Buy what you like and wear it until the gears fall out

    I wouldn't get either of these i got the pelagos LHD , i own a dj41 so (with a fairly long wait) i could get a sub at retail if i wanted . I do like the snowflake the roulette date , the lume on bezel and left hand crown the fact its quirky and different , but i agree if you want a sub youll have to get a sub there is no substitute.

    It's really just crazy how you can't have a converation about watches without mentioning Rolex. For most , nobody knows the high horology brands but Rolex is the de facto best brand in the mind of most. It's a hard swallow at the price point retail, I'm on the list for the non date version Sub, which I like because of the symmetry. I also like how Rolex is a durable watch , at least from their roots.
    I agree though on the danger of wearing them, it's flash in Miami but people are getting jacked left and right for Rolex and RM's.
    Don't htink I ever heard anyone get jacked for an Omega

    I never craved to own a sub like I craved the BB58. The sub is a beautiful and desirable piece but with the new Tudor Monochrome, I don’t know. A comparison between those 2 would be better. BTW, not saying anything bad about a sub but my grail is the Explorer.

    • @erikkinginnyc
      @erikkinginnyc  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I love the BB58 and look at it as an entirely different watch than the sub. Thanks for watching.

    • @Peltwerk
      @Peltwerk Před 2 měsíci

      Yeah the Monochrome is epic. Like I said in another post I've had the Sub and have moved on to other brands and don't currently have any Rolex. The Monochrome nails everything I liked about the sub but at a fraction of the price. Once you go Holy Trinity and some other micro brands Rolex becomes meh. But still love the style of the sub. So this nails everything for the style without having to deal with the Rolex drawbacks and stigma.
      PS. You effectively get a Sub on a jubilee and a smaller glide lock.

      There's just no comparison between a sub or any Tudor 58, 54. Huge difference in quality. If you want a sub just go for a sub. There's just nothing else that will scratch the itch. Now if it's a matter of mean (not being able to afford a sub), then the Tudor BB 54,58 is a great alternative in the meantime until you can finnaly get a sub. Two different leagues of quality.
