    What a great way to translate all the technical speak of Phonemic Awareness for parents!! Thank you for putting your skills and talents to use for a broad audience! I am doing all this with my 10 year old now, and I’m so glad to know there are easy-to-jump-into resources for all of us learning this SoR knowledge for the first time. Here’s to being part of a Reading Revolution!

    Hi, Spencer!
    I’m Ivan and I’m English teacher in Russia. The way you teach inspires me.
    The question is: Is your method productive for children who have English as a second language?

    How do we teach sounds with what I call letter buddies "could, should, night" words with letters groups that change the letter sounds?

    • @whitneyrhiannontill1618
      @whitneyrhiannontill1618 Před 10 měsíci

      Start with th, sh, & ch. Explain that those two letters, when put together, make a new sound. Have them practice simple words with those sounds a bunch. Then gradually add in other new combination sounds.

    Do you have any tips for helping older kids specifically? I tutor and have an 8th grader who i help with homework. we dont have a lot of time in the lesson and he's often asked to read a lot of text at higher levels than his reading level......... how do you do that without tapping into their shame at being behind?

    I remember thinking, "Why do we care so much?" when practicing the sounds as a kid. It was one of the things that I picked up on really quick. I would drift off into lalaland. I think that is where I decided that Language Arts and English are boring 🙃 trying to unlearn it now at 29 as I get my certification

    CPS wouldn’t have been called if the mother had simply asked her son in a calming voice to express his feelings without disrupting the classroom setting. Or limit his iPAD usage. There was no need to embarrass him in front of his father where no one could see it.
