    Six months ago I got the Seiko SNE569P1 and pretty much immediately fell in love with it. It was a 38mm diver with a solar quartz movement AND it had a gray bezel so it was just about the perfect “grab and go” watch. But before it was released, if you wanted a new affordable sub $500 Seiko dive watch in the 38mm-40mm range. What options did you have? You could get an SKX013 but those are discontinued and the prices have gone up on them (not to mention the awful 7S26 movement). And the only other choice you’d have would be to go for the SPB143 but that costs much more at over $1000. So the SNE569P1 (SBDN069) seemed to be sent from Seiko heaven.
    In this video, I’m going to go over what I have liked about this glorious little 38mm diver, over the past six months I’ve owned it and also go over the aspects I wasn’t a fan of as well. The not so great part was mainly tied to the bracelet although it is a really comfortable bracelet. However, I upgraded the bracelet clasp and then the entire bracelet to an Uncle Seiko bracelet. The look and feel of the entire watch changed and I think we need Uncle Seiko to make some endlinks for us! Let's make this video the de facto petition to Uncle Seiko to make the endlinks or maybe even an entire bracelet.

Of course if you do buy it here do let them know that The Watch Idiot sent you bc then I might be able to work with them in the future to review watches they have!)

    That bracelet looks incredible on the SNE! It really suits the elegant yet sporty look of the SNE and it works with the thinness of the case too. I fully support the petition to get Uncle Seiko to make some endlinks! This watch deserves it

      it really does look incredible I'm glad you liked it, we're one step closer to getting a bracelet lol! I still cant get over how good it looks and I forgot to mention how much of a difference the 4mm taper makes in terms of the entire experience. And the lightness of the entire package is too good. Do you have one of these SNEs?

    This watch is awesome. I was fortunate enough to get a JDM version that has no alignment issues. The watch is so versatile due to the size, weight, and thinness. Also I don’t have to worry about winding the movement.

    Thanks for doing the followup! I completely agree about the diver’s extension - removing it makes the watch so much better. And same about the faux triple links too, I have Citizens and Casios at half the price that have more convincing “Oyster” bracelets. But still easily in my top 3 fave watches!

    Love the watch. Been absent from watches for a little while, didn't know seiko made a 38mm solar. I don't care about solid end links and a noisy bracelet ( it lets me know that my watch is still there as I am extremely hard on watches) The one thing I must have on a bracelet is the little clasp thing that keeps it from popping open . I beat, hammer, pound on all kinds of shit every day. The only reason I have many watches is because that clasp has kept my watch from being catapulted two blocks over . I do like a nato strap but grease,oil gasoline and other solvents play hell on the skin when they soak into it. I just put a watch ( with a bracelet) in the parts washer when I wash my hands at the end of the day and lava soap and call it a day.Im gonna look on flee bay tonight and get it on the way. Thanks.

  • @tuneman7688
    @tuneman7688 Před rokem +1

    On the default Seiko bands the diver's extension sort of makes it non-symmetric, you have to treat the extension almost like a link itself so you can center the clasp under your wrist when you size the band. I noticed that in your vid the default clasp was off center under your wrist; that's probably contributing to it jutting into your wrist.

    Great review. I've been thinking of getting a solar diver and the SNE573 has been on my short list, along with the Vaer D4. I did not know about this model, the grey bezel is stunning. I am not a big fan of metal bracelets on dive watches, I prefer straps.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  Před 2 lety +1

      Oh nice at one point I had the Vaer D4 in my cart for a few days but I ended up not getting it because I didnt want anything to potentially step on the toes of my SNE569 lol! Yeah the grey bezel really is great and its not a combo seen on watches very much. I've worn it on a nato and a rubber strap quite a bit as well and it was super comfy lots of space to allow for thick straps to pass through and the drilled lugs are a life saver!

    Good video. I'm rocking their President bracelet on a Seiko SRPE61 and it looks like it was made for the watch. I can't believe how much better it looks than the stock gray nylon strap. I usually get the bracelet I want from Uncle Seiko with hollow end links and just form them to the watch case I want to put it on. Usually that means I'm getting extra SKX013 end links for a 19 or 20mm lug width and grinding them down to fit the case. Even did a Z199 for a 6105 like this.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  Před 2 lety

      Yeah that definitely a big advantage of hollow end links for sure, and its pretty cool that youve fitted these endlinks multiple times! A couple months ago I was super close to fitting my uncle seiko SKX013 beads of rice onto my SNE569 but I shied away bc I wanted to continue wearing it on the SKX013 without messing up the endlinks but I think I might give it a go after ordering a new pair that I can experiment with! As far as I could tell it wasnt going to need very much grinding. In the meantime I'll keep my fingers crossed for Uncle Seiko to make one lol!

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  Před 2 lety

      Yeah it's such a good watch and the overall look of the ghosted bezel is spot on. I definitely want to get a thinner/lighter clasp on it at some point

    I've been hesitant to try other bracelets after my experience with strapcode. A few years ago I bought a super jubilee for a seiko turtle it fit perfectly i was very pleased so I figured I would try my seiko sarb on a jubilee so I ordered one my experience this time was not so good it took over a month to get to me, the end links left gaps around the lugs and looked terrible so I tried to return it but they make it impossible to return a bracelet . Eventually we resolved the situation but it took months so be careful.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  Před 2 lety +1

      Oh man sorry to hear that, those sort of experiences are always pretty awful! My experiences with strapcode are somewhat varied for different reasons, my jubilee for my SKX007 was impeccable and everything felt really smooth and i got an oyster for it as well and it was more or less ok too albeit with long shipping times and a not so great return policy.
      But then I decided to get an oyster for my SARB017 Alpinist from amazon and for some reason it didnt quite have the same smoothness of the one i bought directly from strapcode but it wasnt bad and amazon returns are great. then i got an endmill for my SKX013 from amazon and it was the worst of all of them, links were rough and pulled hairs and i returned it immediately. This all makes me think that the strapcode bracelets on amazon are the ones that failed QC or something. SO i love quick shipping and easy returns from Amazon but seemingly lower quality. OR i can buy from the strapcode site with more selection and seemingly better quality but with shipping that is more expensive and takes longer, with expensive returns....its a weird position to be in

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it! unfortunately there wont be many bracelets that will end up fitting the lugs of the speedtimer bc it has a quasi skin diver case in that the surface where the endlinks and the case meet is just about flat. basically the endlinks are a very slightly curved version of the SPB143 endlinks.
      That being said if you happen to find hollow end links that are made for skin diver cases then it could work quite well since it doesnt have to deal with any curves! It would be awesome to see some aftermarket bracelets come out for the speedtimer and I have a feeling that there are some in the works considering how popular they are

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  Před 2 lety

      Oh man that sucks that your watch has a misaligned second hand! So one way to do it would be to maybe send it in to Seiko to get fixed hopefully under warranty. Another option would be to take out the movement itself and to adjust the dial and chapter ring to line everything up and you can either do this yourself or you can have a watchmaker do it for you. And then the final option would be to take off the seconds hand altogether lol like I did in with my Tissot PRX I did a video on it but that's definitely a last resort

    What are your thoughts on the Certina 38mm DS Action Diver?Very similar sizing to this seiko but automatic and with great specs for the price. I'm looking for a medium-sized diver and am kinda torn between these two.

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  Před 2 lety +1

      I actually have never handled a Certina before! So I cant speak to the quality although I hear great things on that front but the DS action diver is a very classic looking watch but i like that there is a modern touch to it. The specs are definitely great and i love that it has an 80 hour power reserve but i guess it really comes down to how much money you're wanting to spend and for what sort of use.
      this seiko can be found along the lines of $350-450, and while I know that the certina costs $800 I'm sure it can be found for less but that could still be $200+ in between the two watches. So for my particular situation and wearing habits, I'm not sure I would feel comfortable spending that much extra bc i keep switching watches which leads to less wrist time for all watches. And because of that too I love that the seiko is quartz.
      Of course your situation might be entirely different and you might wear the watch for a very long time at which point the value proposition for the certina might be way more! Both will serve you well so i guess the final push could be whichever one you like just a bit more lol!

    • @thewatchidiot
      @thewatchidiot  Před 2 lety +3

      Yeah so I love my SKXs and they are super comfy however they are noticeably heavier especially on a strapcode oyster bracelet about 175 grams vs 145 grams for the SNE on the original bracelet and then 109 grams on the uncle seiko bracelet.
      But beyond that, the overall balance of the SNE play s big role in why its so comfy, it doesnt move all over the wrist because it not only sits well on the wrist but the watch head never overpowers the bracelet. I really do think that it is the most comfortable watch I own alongside my Zodiac Super Sea Wolf gmt
