    These reviews have been SO HELPFUL for learning about all of the different watches Garmin has to offer. I am a long time runner and cycler but I wanted to start tracking more fitness data. I was so lost in all of the models and features available. There are so many options out there and it was a headache to compare and contrast them. You clarified and broke down everything AND backed it up with test-driven data. I am eternally thankful for all the work you do! I just purchased a 245 music and I can't thank you enough Des!

    4:18 The absence of barometrics on the 245 is actually a nice feature because we don't have to manually adjust elevation corrections in the Garmin Connect and Strava which would be ridiculous to do that after every run or bike. I got the FR 245. The 645 has too many specs that I wouldn't need. Garmin Pay is not really used in Europe and not supported in my country. I need the watch for running, indoor rowing and gym stuff. I would have ended up not using all the supported sports widgets of 645, like snow sports, SUP, etc. The only biggie that made me hesitate to decide was the lactate threshold function of the 645. But being the only benefit of the comparison I rather went for longer battery life and BloodOx function of the 245. Smartwatch features and the functions and data for the sports I need it for are the same.

      @@arthur5771 Yea they actually both have the identical running form analytics. The only difference in running is the lactate threshold feature of the 645. My decision is unchanged due to all the specs and techs of the 645 that I would end up not using. Therefore I went for 245 with the slightly better battery life, little less weight and more minimalistic design.

    hey there! stumbled upon a few of your videos as I'm looking for my first fitness/outdoor watch. I am super into hiking, skiing, camping & the like and am looking for a durable adventure watch that can track altitude. I was thinking the 645 could be a great option and am looking for watches with an altimeter, however would more or less be okay with seeing my current elevation using GPS. Do you have any recommendations? Garmin has so many SKU's I feel like I'm going in absolute circles trying to find the perfect model for me (doesn't even have to be a Garmin, but trying to not get a headache lol). In all honesty, the most I'll pay is $290. Trying to avoid that rugged look of the Instict, as I would like a watch that doesn't look so rough. I really like the look of the Forerunner series, especially the 245 but feel like I might damage the hell out of it on my adventures in the outdoors. Thanks so much!!!

    I have the 235 at the moment and mainly use it to time lactic runs and track long running distance/pace.
    The 235’s heart rate sensor really does seem to struggle and is rarely accurate so I haven’t utilised that very much. And it does often count my reps distance to be slightly off when going fast on an athletics track.

      Track distances are tough for a lot of devices, the 645 may be the better bet for you with slightly better GPS accuracy. In regards to the HR sensor, like I was saying both will be similar, but for the best results I’d recommend an external chest heart rate sensor. I have a link to my favorite in the description.

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  Před 5 lety +3

      The only watch that I have tested that gave somewhat reasonable HR results for rowing were the Apple Watch Series 3 and 4. However, overall, I’d say that rowing is one of the hardest activities for a wrist (or even arm HR strap) to track. I’d get a chest heart rate strap if you want reasonably usable heart rate. Garmin devices give some additional data points like number of strokes when you are done.

      @@DesFit I know is responsive, but with the Fenix 5X Plus, in one year of use, 3 months was in Assistance. It's not fair for a product this expensive (at least for me) to be sent in Assistance once every 2 months and wait to have it back after 1 month each time. If with a premium watch I've had so many problems, I am afraid to try a "plasticky" one. 😁

    Hey Des, thanks for the review video!
    I currently use Apple Watch Series 2 since 2016, and as I am into running now (and my apple watch battery drains heavily), I'm thinking of switching to Garmin.
    645 & 245 is actually my only candidates; I don't ride & swim as of now, but probably in the future.
    My question, how important is the barometric altimeter & gyroscope from the 645? How important is the bodybattery function from the 245? I run mostly on the streets, and sometimes tracks. I rarely runs around hilly areas (as of now). My consideration for the 245 is that it's newer, and it's much cheaper. My considerations for 645, is that it looks better, and those extra sensors.
    Can anyone help me? Thanks before guys!

    • @bullbagaren1590
      @bullbagaren1590 Před 5 lety +2

      Garmin will correct you elevation after the run is completed and if you are not running hills covered by heavy vegetation and ofcourse that the elevation gain is a crucial part of the metrics you want maybe the 645. I run in moderatly hilly terrain that is also under heavy cover and the 245 tends to give an elevation that is slightly off. Strava often corrects it more accuratly. If you dont do serious trailrunning and the 245 is cheaper go with it! I'm using a 245 and honestly if the total elevation is off with 10m it wont effect you.
