  • This is how simple and easy it is to get your new node up and on the air. I hope this helps everyone understand how I try to make this as easy as possible for everyone to join! Hope to hear you soon.

    Got mine today from Dane. After some great customer support from Jason for a WiFi issue on my end, I was up & running just like in this video. Got on the network tonight and chatted with several nice guys from a bunch of different states, including Dane. Audio reception is excellent! Now I can put my GMRS gear to use without having to worry about hitting a repeater. Fun too. Great job guys!

    A counterpoise at the antenna base would make it more efficient and lower the SWR.

    • @daneoctane
      @daneoctane  Před 3 lety

      You are correct, however, in a basic application such as this, this will be fine. The best situation is always to run an external antenna and proper feed line, but coming from a low powered handheld, these do the trick.

  • @n1kkri
    @n1kkri Před 2 lety

    Do you offer something like a GMRS hotspot. Similar to what Hams are doing. Hold the radio in your hand, place the hotspot nearby and talk to it with the handheld in your hand. Hams use a radio modem that plugs into the raspberry pi to receive the handheld radio and connects to a server.

    • @daneoctane
      @daneoctane  Před 2 lety

      This is my GMRS version of that. Due to GMRS being locked into part 95, most amateur components are not available to use. This is the best I can come up with to combat that.

      @@daneoctane What guarantee is there the network will exist in the future? Without the network it's useless.

    • @daneoctane
      @daneoctane  Před 2 lety

      @@n1kkri there are many different networks out there, this is just showing how I have setup the hardware for one network. The software is universal for most networks with minor software changes. This is Essentially an Allstar simplex node using a custom hamvoip image. This has been around for many years and will continue to be. I hope that answers your question.

    • @krevo81

      He's created a simplex "node" that allows him to talk from any GMRS-capable handset around his home through that radio/pi in the red box, and out across the internet to one of many linked GMRS hubs. Basically the same thing hams do with allstar nodes, dmr hotspots, etc. It allows folks who don't live in a high GMRS traffic area to still communicate out to other GMRS folks via internet.

    • @daneoctane
      @daneoctane  Před 3 lety

      Brent, This is in place due to the fact that we have had many people disassemble the product after receiving it, altering it, and ultimately damaging the components inside. Unfortunately we can NOT "warranty" the product after it was built by us. I can assure you that every SN box built goes through testing beyond the normal use before sent to the customer. If you feel that you need a lengthy "warranty" with a product that you purchase then feel free to go elsewhere. Have a great day and I hope that "other network" works out for you. I am sure we will talk to you soon.
