    This is helpful. I've been having problems installing the East West Hollywood diamond libraries, including percussion. I've been asking for a solid orchestral library. This can certainly be it. Thanks, Cory.

    Hey Cory I come from the Rhythmus video you posted two days ago. Thanks for suggesting me the tubular bells from True Strike library. I just bought it man and not only the tubular bells are good, the timpani is outstanding too. Great library in general at a very affordable price bro. Thanks a lot.

    Really helpful, thank you Cory. I'm looking for a percussion library to compliment the Cinematic Studio series until their percussion comes out (thus completing the set) and this sounds / feels like the one - and more.

    After a few monthes of work with True Strike, I finally found my marks with this library. And yes, I love it. On few instruments (timpani, triangle, glockenspiel), I still prefer other library (I also use Rhapsody Orchestral Percussions and Native Essential Percussions ...)
    But yes, True Strike is really a must have.

    One thing I always miss is a video that shows timpanis roll capabilities.I still use EW orchestra timpanis.I would love to see a perc library that has timpani rolls cresc-decresc.And cresc and decresc separate.And all this tempo synced.Anybody knows if there is a library that has that?

      @-Meric- Před 3 lety +1

      Orchestral tools Berlin Exp A "The Timpani" has Crescendo and Decrescendo rolls. They aren't tempo synced iirc but they're recorded at multiple lengths so you can just choose the one that fits best

      The 'True Strike 1' Library contains the following Timpani features:
      -Single hits
      -Looped tremolos
      -Crescendo rolls
      -Special effects
      The 'Diamond Orchestra' Series also has quite a number of Timpani articulations as well.

    • @CoryPelizzari
      @CoryPelizzari  Před 6 lety +3

      True Strike is the best all round for variety and a natural orchestral sound. If you want a natural sounding alternative you can pick up Evolution Series European Percussion, and if you want more intimate sounds then Rhapsody is a good choice. Either way I still love True Strike the most because of its wonderful sound and variety so I'd recommend that above anything else. Its a great workhorse.

  • @Table-Top

    I am weighing up NI Symphony Percussion and True Strike.
    There is literally one video on TS: your's.
    And my focus is timpani rolls, and I didn't really see that in this video. With NI they are easy to do and sound good.
    The audio demos on ProjetSams website are not conclusive either.
    I am leaning towards NI simply because I can't get enough info on TS.

    • @CoryPelizzari
      @CoryPelizzari  Před 5 lety +2

      Probably best to get TS first as it is much cheaper. It does have roll articulations for the snares and timpani, and the timpani especially sound great in this library. Eventually I want to do a video dedicated to orchestral percussion libraries but it's difficult getting my hands on everything there is - I'm trying to get review copies of some stuff but it looks like I'll just have to end up buying everything.

      @@CoryPelizzari thanks. NI and TS are about the same price now. NI is on sale at $149.

    • @cyrilcalmes4208

      I own True Strike and the NI Symphony Percussion Essential. If you're in timpani, you should definitly go to NI Symphony Percussion. Timpanis are awesome.
      The timpani in True Strike do not have the characteristic roundness that one would expect from this instrument. They sound too harsh. Too epic! it lacks delicacy.
      If you want to make a crescendo or a timpani roll with the "dual hits" patch, you will notice a sudden jump in the velocities which strongly affects the realism of the whole (I like to play my timpani rolls on the keyboard and frankly, there, I find it redibitory).
      These are not the only percussions that I have a problem with in True Strike (am I the only one to find defaults in this library ?). I personally find that the triangle sounds like ... a small anvil. No lightness. The tuned percussions need a strong EQ to fit with my orchestral library, that is pretty dry (Spitfire Studio Orchestra Pro) ... Cymbals and snares are nice ...
      Honestly, I'm a bit deceived by this library and I will soon upgrade to NI Symphony Percussion.
      NB: I also have the Rhapsody Orchestral Percussion library. It sounds good for small ensemble.
      If you want something thunderous : Go True Strike.
      If you want a soft library for small ensembles, Go Rhapsody.
      if you want something more versatile, go NI Symphony Percussion
      Obviously, it my own point of view.
      Cheers.

      @@cyrilcalmes4208 I went for the NI Symphony Perc a few months ago. I am happy with the Timpani in that, very nice and deeply sampled. The tuned percussion is not great in that NI library though.

    Is it possible to affect the dynamics of the rolls using the modwheel?

      @@CoryPelizzari Can I please confirm if this is indeed the case? I just purchased it hoping to have mod-wheel controlled rolls and I can't seem to figure out how to do it. All of the rolls I have encounter so far are various crescendos of preset length/intensity

    • @CoryPelizzari
      @CoryPelizzari  Před 4 lety +1

      @@TyQuinn The timpani and snares have a roll key where the dynamics are controlled via modwheel. For the snares I think it's one of the keys to the right of the single hits. The only problem I found with it is that when you move the modwheel up it also activates the snares off sound which is for some reason tied to the modwheel as well. I'd suggest contacting Project SAM and asking them what to do about it. They tend to follow through with updates.

      Cory, I keep coming back to this because I'm still trying to decide. But do the bass drums pack a good enough punch behind the rest of the orchestra? Do the mic positions make a big difference? Also, if I use the Congas on the far mic, will they get a good enough room sound to them, something similar to the Lost World Soundtrack by any chance? Cheers, mate!
