The past few days I've been doing a test on the live stream question videos by making them longer with more questions but no funny pictures to see what you guys preferred. I've decided to keep the same format as before, shorter videos with funny pictures instead of longer ones without the pictures, since I don't have time to do both. So all videos will once again have the pictures, thanks for the input and support!

I've had the theory that many station owners purposely disable or don't stock printer paper at the pump to make the customer walk into the store , greatly raising the chances of making an additional high-markup sale. 💸💰
Just don’t get the receipt
@@jimmybagg9439 some people need the receipts for tax purposes or employer business expenses.
@Robby Dey I agree, but that has nothing to do with the point.
Interesting theory, but I worked at a gas station for a couple years and the things just jam up ALL THE TIME
Depending on the store that can be illegal, if it’s a 24 hour site then they have to have printers in working condition (with the exception of a broken one or two every so often) because a customer had to have the ability to get a receipt. But I wouldn’t put it past some stores to do this.
My Dad drove a gasoline truck for a local company. He said, he would go to a gas station and unload half of the gas into their tank. Then, he drove across the street to their competitor and unloaded the same gas into their tank. Both stations are major big companies and advertised their gas was the best.
Haha! That's true so true I hauled that stuff for years!
Well if it's the same gas and they're it's no better then it's the best. Just like if you don't know any better then what you have is the best.
@@craighouchins3116 So all the gas is the same?
Well some gas stations have better storage procedures than others. For instance, 7-Eleven is known to have air leaked into their gas cu of fault gaskets or something? Air has water, gas absorbs water from the air, degrading the quality of gas. If I’m wrong, please let me know. I only buy Exxon Mobil gas because I once heard that have the highest amount of detergents in their low octane gas.

Go to gas stations that sell a lot of gas. They have fresh gas which means the octane hasn't diminished.

Premium doesn't sell when the price goes up, it can sit in the tanks for a month before it sells at some locations. Go to busy stores, fresh is good.
Never fill up while a tank is having a fuel drop.
I worked in a Shell, full service station when I was in high school, back in the 1960s. Working after school and weekends was a good source of money for a kid of a single parent. It was one of the highest volume of sales stations in the large Northeastern Florida city where I lived. At times I would be out on the island for 4 hours steady pumping gas, we could get that busy. Gas sales, no matter how little was bought included a cleaning of the windshield, check under the hood for the oil level, coolant level (when possible), and the battery's electrolyte level and lastly the tire air pressure. The full service was a requirement of the owner of the station. Some people would tell you to skip the service portion and just put in the gas and others would always want it done even if they bought a dollar's worth of gas. Gas at the time was like 30 cents a gallon for regular and 35 cents for premium. The gas wars that would happen from time to time would drop the prices down to as low as 22 cents a gallon for regular and 29 cents for premium; then that's when sales would really take off. I worked at that station until I had to go in the military which wasn't very long after graduation from high school. It was a great experience and I learned a lot about many things which included some interesting customers, if you know what I mean.

I use to work in the petro additive industry... what Scotty is sharing here is what I heard from the chemists. We supplied to all of the top brands. If I drove a Ferrari, I would use Shell 93, but for my Toyota, I use the big box mart gas - cheap and gets the job done.
You did WHAT to your Toyota?! I always insisted on Chevron, but they were bought out by Nom Nom. No CLUE what kind of gas THAT is, but can't be great.
doesn’t matter the kind of car always use exxon mobil shell and chevron
When I worked as a young engineer at a refinery in suburban Chicago the guys on the rack put the additives into the trucks going to the discount Hauck stations.
The funny thing was they thought if one ladle of additive was good, two or three were better. I laughed but always wondered if they were causing trouble with too much additive.

Me too!!!!!! He could help me with my car - that I still don't have yet :( lol
After 9-11 there were stations in my area that bumped gas up , some a lot some just a little. Only one didn't, been going to that one ever since.
I knew a guy that owned a gas station that REFUSED to raise his prices although all the other gas stations.. including the corporate ones.. he was an independent BUT he bought fuel from a corporate company.. Valero... they tried to FORCE him to raise his prices and he refused.. they could NOT do anything to him.. but they tried.
Andreagreg vw, tell them that, to encourage them to keep up the good work
If you tried to do that in my area you would run out of gas. Every Thursday morning all the stations here raise the price between .20-.30 a gal to gouge the weekend travelers. All the stations. They collude with ea other everybody has the same exact price by Thursday afternoon. And the state of Ohio doesn’t care, they are aware of it
I found the price of gas was much higher in areas of oil production than in areas that had none. In fact, at the same convenience stores, the price could change up to 30 cents per gallon depending on where the store was. On the road near an exclusive residential housing area, it was the highest. Go figure.
2 Things:
1. With Ethanol, if you get water in your gas, the Ethanol will mix with the water, drop out of the gas and become a Gooey white substance that will clog the fuel filter and injectors.
2. In rural areas its common for gas stations to have the exact same fuel. In an area I used to live, the fuel truck would stop at a Citgo, Mobile and Sunoco station all in the same trip. All three would get the exact same gas.
supawiz6991 right there’s a 3mill gallon place here in California very near to me so one day I decided to ask what bulk prices for gasoline see if he sold it me and I was surprised that you can walk into any of this places and buy gasoline in bulk bulk meaning more then 1000 gallons at a time the place I went to wanted to sell me 1500 gallons minimum it pretty much less then 1$ a gallon so anyone can have high amounts of gasoline at a time you all just need a giant gasoline tank in your house or property
Haven’t seen a Sunoco in my area since I was 4
1. Use Star Tron
2. Wrong. It may be the same truck, but the truck has multiple tanks/chambers. Each company uses their own additive package to the same base gas.
mi ke I’m aware of the chambers. I should have added that I worked for the company and knew the driver. Trust me when I tell you it was the same stuff.
Edit: I want to point out that I’m not saying that each brand doesn’t have their own. What I’m saying is in small rural markets the terminals may not have each brands fuel package. In the case of the market I lived in, even though the stations said Sunoco, Citgo and Mobile it ended up being the same fuel/additive package at each.
As for the separation thing, yeah fuel stabilizer helps but the issue can happen at the stations as well. One of my responsibilities was to dip the tanks with wooden sticks with special water/separated ethanol paste on them to check for water and/or separated ethanol.
supawiz6991 thanks for the explanation. Makes sense that in rural places they just don’t have many terminals so sharing makes more sense. My idea of rural is 2 hours outside of my major city but realize that’s not that rural.
Thank You Mr. Kilmer for all the information you've given to all of us. We're all so tied up and busy to do the research ourselves. We can just conveniently watch videos like yours.
Scotty, I thought you might be interested in this true story. Years ago I worked for for a company that used a temp service for extra workers to help out .One of the workers was an American Indian who had lived on a reservation in California. At that time gas was $1.35 a gallon. While talking at lunch he asked me what do you think the price of gas is on the reservation. He told me gas there is .35 cents a gallon. I was shocked . That means we were paying $1.00 tax for .35 cent of gas at the pumps.

True dat. I was told the proper term for that system is known as "controlled chaos". One of the unintended but happy benefits is- nobody borrows your stuff without asking because they can't find it without guidance from the chaos controller.
Law requires that MSDS ( material safety data sheet ) provide information on what chemicals are in the gasoline. Naptha is about 80 percent then ethanol at about ten percent then some benzene, tolulene , xylene. Shell has promoted boron nitride in it's gasoline. Boron nitride takes heat well and is slippery kinda feels like graphite on your fingers. Has been used as an extreme lubricant since first used in steam engines 170 years ago.
@6:45 one of my pet peeves: Having to go into the gas station because the printer ran out of receipt paper.
When the pump receipt printer isn't working, I just write down the amount of gas and the total price on a notepad I keep in the car.

I love the clip images Scotty shows as he's talking. Kinda like the images that newscasters use while reading the news
I can't tell you how many arguments I have had trying tell people that all the gas comes out of the same pipe line.
Ya may come out the same pipeline, but like he said, different additives. Fill your tank with a local no name cheap gas station, the fill up with mobile gas, what the difference in mileage
jack smith I’m a fuel hauler in Oklahoma and I can confirm what Jim Bo says is correct. Pipeline gas is raw and blended with additives at the loading rack but the blend does not change between loading different brands. I literally get to see the additives being injected. I can load over 60 different suppliers or “brands” from the same line and the terminal basically blends everything to a spec that satisfies all of them. The only difference in the fuel is the way each company tries to market it. I say buy the cheapest gas you can find as long as it’s from a well kept store. Don’t go to the run down mom and pops their tanks always have traces of water in them and algae growing on the walls of their tanks which both effectively reduce octane rating and efficiency. Most chains and well kept stores do a yearly tank cleaning to prevent it.
Good, now educate them about "bottled" water, you might find that all comes from the same place too, usually the same place that supplies your tap water.
@@nepiris Often worse than tap water. Rent the documentary, "FLOW: For The Love Of Water".
Yeah that's true they all come out of the same gas line but there is a difference between shell and Costco's Kroger gasbecause she'll Exxon Phillips 66 on mobile on your major brands use different adjectives and they don't have carbon build-up I'm living proof that I used to buy that cheap gas on the local gas stations grocery stores and all that and I have so much carbon buildup in my motor so it is a true fact that your major brands are better than just them all brands stores or grocery stores or corner marketand I'm living proof that premium unleaded you'll get an extra forty miles to your tank cuz I think I got over 40 car since I've been adult I use regular unleaded and I always set my trip odometer and I'll run them all way down to empty and I will see how many miles and I would get more miles out of the premium unleaded

Always go to gas station that's well known, and keep your receipt. Watch out for strange named gas stations that are really cheap priced. Never get gas when tanker truck is refilling the station! Look for the state inspection sticker & date on the pump.
why never get gas when a tanker truck is refilling the station??
because when they're refilling all the water and sludge that has accumulated in the tanks will get mixed up and you'll end up pumping that into your car
I used to say the samething, but its not true. It makes no difference anymore. There are filter on the hose so you dont get all the contamination in your tank.
I used to pump Ethyl, and she loved it.
This guy is hilarious!! I watch him for laughs but he really is spot on on most of the stuff he says. So good for you Scotty, keep it up!!
I always hated putting 5.4 gallons into a 5.2 gallon tank, when the bike wasn't even empty.
I hear you. A local station was convenient, though more expensive. I suspected they were short changing, so checked my Fuelly records. I followed by carefully marking 1 gallon on my can and filled it from 3 of his pumps. Each gallon showed 1.1 gallons on the pump. I reported it, but 6 months later he was still short changing.
@@mikep490 did you report it to the store or to your states weights and measure?
Always check a gas dispenser for a W&M sticker normally has the month and year they inspected it listed along with a phone Number to call
Pro tip,
If you really care about the best bang for your buck. Always go to the newest fuel dispensers you can find. Going to an older store means they have older dispensers, the older it is the more a state will allow it to widen its tolerance threshold (normally only by 1-3 cubic inches = 0.003 is one cubic inch)
If the truck is delivering to the station don't go. This is when sediment in tank is stirred up.
Fuel Pumps have filters so fuel is filtered as you fill up your vehicle

I haul fuel, we pick up the same stuff as the next guy. Very rarely is there any sort of special additive. We pick up Offen Petroleum, Sinclair, Overland, Coffeyville, P66, Musket, Newstar, Suncor, etc. there's a market and all the gas stations are just trying to pick up the cheapest thing they can.
For the most part you're just getting the same random fuel anywhere you go. Because most of them run outside carriers that just pick up the cheapest stuff they can and it's not specially tailored to any specific gas stop.
Always good when Scotty has a couple drinks before filming a video🍻
hahaha
Scotty, you are so good at this. You somehow make me laugh in almost every vid. I learn something in every vid. Thanks for your time!
When I was studying for my FAA license the instructor (an old salty dog with decades of experience) told us you want to skip any station when the tanker truck is on site doing a delivery.
Reason being that the unavoidable condensation in the tanks normally sits at the bottom of the ground tank (water is heavier than gas).
The gas is drawn up by a floating pickup tube to take fuel from the top and avoid the water, but when the tanker floods the tank during the fill all the gas and water get mixed and take some time to settle out again, so if you pump your gas then you're likely to get water in your fuel (a bad thing, ask any mechanic). I've been following that tip ever since.
Thanks for the tip :)
True. I see a tanker at a station I go to another station. Not just the water but particulates as well which eventually clogs your fuel filter.
I do that too! Never get gas when tanker is refilling the tank. Also, I always get gas at the same gas stations. One time my gas had water in tank, and I told the store. They sent me a gift card. also they now are inspected frequently at this gas station.
I follow that advice too, didnt know about water but figured all the sludge in the tank is now stirred up.
Acey Man right on! With no alcohol the water and sludge is on the bottom of the tank. Filling agitates it.

Yeah happened to me a few years ago at a Marathon station. The medium grade fuel was a dollar less than it should have been. Called everyone and, told the guys at the local auto parts to go fill up. I have no remorse and about it, because they sure as hell stick it to us everyday.

I went to a Chevron station to fill up in California and I was watching the money count up, and when my tank got about half way full the money suddenly started counting noticeably faster, but the amount of fuel pumping stayed the same. I never went back to that station.

One thing you did not mention is how maintained the tanks are. Different stations have different requirements (often dictated by the gas brand) of how often the water must be pumped out of the tanks etc. I hear Mobil gasoline is terrible about this and Shell excellent. If your car runs rough after putting some gas in it might have quite a bit of H2O in it.
In NJ, they don't do full service anymore... They just pump the gas. Years ago, they did used to also check your oil and clean your windows... And they were very nice about it. Umfortunately, those days are long gone.
And since it's Saturday.. I'm GIVING AWAY A GALLON OF GAS!
I miss the old Texaco's and their tire/mechanic shops in the back

I read some where that it’s more profitable and less liability to open a convenience shop that to work on cars.

Very enjoyable, whitty and informative. Thanks Scotty - good work! :-)
Great insight Scotty! Thank you 🙏
GasBuddy is good app lets you know a good percentage of gas prices in your city and abroad.
Another scumbag thing gas station owners do is bump up the price AFTER they already paid for whats in the ground INSTEAD of the next time the tanker fills it up again.
Oh yeah and isn't it amazing how quickly the prices jump but how slowly they come back down
@@ironbowtie So they pay lets say $2... And lets say the Market suddenly changes and it will cost them $3 on a refill. What Business would STAY in Business if they didn't somehow "build in" a reliable margin to cover the cost of keeping the tanks full and the lights on? Suppose they could try and sell more Snickers and Mountain Dew... But with the cost of fuel going up that Candy will probably be costing more too soon enough...
Yes but gas buddy only shows prices, not additives.
As for me, I ACTIVELY avoid arco gasoline. AM/PM sells it here in AZ. I filled a Mason jar with it and let it set out overnight. Next morning, all of the ACTUAL gasoline had separated and settled at the top of the jar. And it was only about 25-30% of the total volume in that jar. And people wonder why I call arco gas "gasoline-flavored water".
Well, they're about to increase the amount of ethanol in gas in the US, farmers and auto manufacturers will be happy.. car owners, not so much.
Christopher Graham I agree. I used to always use QT, but now that I have a tuned WRX I have had the best results with Chevron. Keeps knock down and gets better mpg. I have to use 91 though, wish we had 93 out here.
@@mikegoe1171 You can buy octane booster from like autozone or whatever.
I had a Friend Delivered Gas too those Stations in Tacoma, Wa.....he Warned me about there Gas was Shhhhhhh and too never us. I stop after it made my 89 Astro run like shhhhhhh after I had it Serviced. The Gas was the Cheapest Station around Town , but it cost me in repairs.
With you pal.Shoryly after moving to LA california in the middle of eighties once I broke down and my mechanic struggled to find the problem, sure enough it happened right after I filled up at an Arco with water in the gas. Since then I never buy Arco except a few times when I had no choice.
Thanks , for Being so Informative... I Appreciate you...
I live in in New Jersey and I distinctly remember pumping my gas once in 1982.
Thank you for bringing the funny pictures back 😝😂
I hauled tanker fuel for years.. filled up the tanker at the terminal! then went to several different stations and put the SAME FUEL at each different station! WAS ALL THE SAME!!!!!!!!!!!!
I too hualed fuel and everything you just said was 100 persent true
DON'T ARGUE WITH SCOTTY!!!!!
And all the additive is in the same tank too. I’ve been a tanker tanker for 18 years, you are correct, it’s all the same stuff. The oil companies simply own a certain amount in that tank.
What about the octane?!
Nonnof Yobiznes wondering about that too
Awesome man.....where does he find those pictures....cracking me up the entire time....plus good info
Great videos! Thanks for the uploads. It would be very interesting to take a look at this subject but looking at Diesel, particularly how much BIO crud is added to regular Diesel

I love the stories you tell. You do a great job of explaining thanks
Yes Scotty ... Great advice , i also don`t pup in any gas station which the trucker is filling up the gas station tanks. Thank You for sharing

I remember a couple cases of gas station clerks accidentally putting the wrong price. Instead of $3.59 a gallon it would be .59 a gallon!
So the right price still woulda been 3.59 at the pump. Just because some stoner put wrong price on sign doesnt mean anything but might of drew in more buisness.
@@dwoolaver1549 Might have.... talk about a stoner.
Thx Scotty, Learnt very practical stuff.
Love your videos Scotty ! I live in NJ and have all my life and you can pump your own gas here for the most part however; at times, it's really nice when its hot outside that some other guy is getting paid to pump it for you.
uh, no, you CAN'T pump your own gas in NJ
“Rev up your engines!” -something Scotty would never tell us to do in real life
It be wise to do it once in a while
I never go to 76 gas stations anymore. Twice i ended up with water in my gas tank from them! Luckily it wasn't on my Evo. From now on I only go to Chevron or Shell.
Good to know. Are you in the Southwest U.S.?
Hi! Im from the Pacific Northwest U.S.
@@Genevo9
76 in CA has traditionally been one of the best. Most of the time when I have customer cars with bad fuel, the customer tells me they buy Arco or Costco
Thanks Scotty for all your hellp and knowledge best regards 👍😁
Such a straight shooter! Thanks for your advice
I like adding a little bit of diesel to my car just to build up it's immune system
We've got a Chevy truck with an incurable misfire. Rather than try (again) to fix it, we just put a gallon or two of diesel in every tank and seems to help. Madness. I would not recommend doing this to a newer car that you're fond of, but for this pile, it's an experiment that seems to work.
hahahaaa
@mharris1270 This truck is a special case. It does have the large tank and it has chronic issues that resist repair. I would not advise putting gallons of diesel in vehicles either. But this truck is on its last legs and every time we run it straight on gasoline, it has difficulty idling and loses speed up hills. We're operating on the ratio of 1 gallon diesel for every 10 gallons gasoline. Far from getting away with it once or twice, it needs it in order to function. Why? Who knows? It's in terrible condition. It's just a 4.3 base model truck with over 280k miles. The rest of the truck is almost shot too, so it's not even worth fixing. It can't tow anymore and the suspension is bad too. When it quits, we'll get a newer one. Besides, having a 3500 would allow for bigger tax deductions, so this 1500 is costing more than just repairs right now. Whatever it takes to make it last through the next couple of months until we can get the replacement. Your point stands though. It's generally a bad idea to put gallons of diesel in a vehicle that works properly.
Rusty Scab 😂😂😂
@mharris1270 I remember the junkyards in the north. They were full of Subarus with only 70k on them and there was hardly any metal left on the car. The rust just ate the foreign cars back then. Hopefully, yours isn't that far gone and it hasn't eaten through the structural load-bearing components.
Scotty sir,you are a wise dude,I have learned so much from you,not only how to fix/diagnose,but about the business of cars.
Man if your learning how to diag cars from this guy i feel sorry for your cars. This dude is a joke when it come to truly diaging cars. Hes for entertainment purposes only
I love the shell sign!
The last time i filled up the tank in my 94 celica was when i bought it used in 2020
