    Thanks for sharing this - I'm a cycling commuter but I've just started a new job which is some 12 miles farther away from home than my old job so I've been pondering a e-bike. The acceleration and speeds you achieved were outrageous! I wouldn't be looking for that kind of performance but it's interesting to know I could adapt my bike in this way.

    • @andykirby
      @andykirby  Před 7 lety +1

      +Stewart Black yeah it's pretty crazy but a hell of a lot of fun to push the limits! You could pick up an ebike ready made or just buy a motor kit and fit it onto any existing bike like I did in one of my earlier videos, 12 miles is no hassle at all for a modest setup without spending a fortune. I love this mode of transport.

      yeah, I used to have a similar bike to this. Bombed around on the street for a few years, then thought 'fuck it, may as well switch up to a motorcycle at this rate since all I use it for is commuting'. Now I look back on myself and think 'holy shit, I was going around on those speeds on a pedal bike in regular clothing. Good thing I didn't crash!'
      The motorbike's still electric because it suits my typical

Another good e bike - wish my little 350w went like that! 19 mph I get which I find is fine in London but soon as I’m in Herts/Cambs/Essex on similar roads/hills it seems like it’s not quite enough! 30 mph should be the limit imo and it would definitely get more ppl out of their cars and even off bikes. No tax or petrol and better for the planet. Thanks

    Adults riding these powerful eBikes is OK as long as they don't ride on paths or pavements at speed, concerned about kids getting hold of bikes that can go 30 - 40 or more mph that is a recipe for death.
    PS. Riding on that high street pavement not OK that is a serious no no get off and push if its a one way and no cycle path, not saying you would hit a child or pram, but the possibility is there.

    • @beyondfossil
      @beyondfossil Před 6 lety +3

      Yes, I am also especially concerned about kids and adolescents getting their hands on these e-bikes.
      These e-bikes are so easy to ride with just an on/off switch and a twist of the throttle to go. Versus a complex traditional motorcycle with clutch, transmission, counter steer, internal combustion maintenance, etc. The average motorcycle's weight is equivalent to a fully loaded industrial fridge between your legs! But even Kirby's fast e-bike might only weigh 120lbs or so and is much more easily handled.
      If kids get onto these e-bikes and start racing each other and crashing into people and property then it'll be the end of the "free ride". Law enforcement will start cracking down on them with the writing of new legislation and the increased enforcement of existing laws. It would follow the same path as RC "drones" being banned everywhere.

      Riding on pavements/footpaths/sidewalks is actually encouraged in Bangkok, Thailand. Actually, probably saved many cyclist's lives. Feel sorry that your laws that have put cyclists on the road where they can (and are) mowed down and killed and injured regularly by motor vehicles.

      And yet you probably still have way more cyclist deaths per capita, pedestrian too. Riding on pavements may be illegal here unless the pavement is shared use BUT 99% of the police won't care as long as you are being careful and slow.

    I'm leaning towards building the mid drive you posed bc with a carbon frame lightness and the gears it just seems more fun & practical but I can't decide. For $3,000+ I want to weigh my options & don't want to regret my decision.

    • @maxyakov273
      @maxyakov273 Před 6 lety +2

      Agree with Jake except that it's more than just "fine". I see it as a SURVIVAL TACTIC. If it comes to me or the pedestrians it's going to be me, although I've never hit a pedestrian, I HAVE BEEN hit by motor vehicles (fortunately, not fatally). To me this is simply COMMON SURVIVAL SENSE out there where many cyclists die yearly being hit by motor vehicles.

    • @maxyakov273
      @maxyakov273 Před 6 lety +1

      This is a relatively high-power motorbike and should follow the rules for any motorbike (internal combustion). The fact that's it has a lightweight, bicycle frame an pedals doesn't change what it, in reality, is.

    • @maxyakov273
      @maxyakov273 Před 6 lety +1

      I somewhat agree, but how many cyclists or motorcyclists can control themselves so as to not put pedestrians at risk?. It's against the law for an unmotorized bicycle to ride (unless posted) on the pavements (aka sidewalks) isn't it?
      Would you ride an internal-combustion-powered motorcycle on the pavements if you can't (legally) ride a bicycle there? Then why would you ride a motorized bicycle (a motorbike with a lightweight frame) on the pavements?
      I should think that riding any of the three machines on the pavements is generally illegal in England Isn't that so, people? Or is it only London Law?

My QS powered stealth did well over 60mph and i wouldnt classify as insanely fast. Enduro ebikes doing over 50mph are very common on ES
