  • Back in my day, there was no better place to grab a slice than Shakey’s Pizza Parlor. At the height of its powers, it was a local hotspot that saw so much action, you thought it was going to be open forever. So, what happened to them?

In the late 60s that was one of my best memories going to Shakey's Pizza on a Friday night. As a little kid I loved watching them make the pizzas through the glass😂

That original building was at 57th and J Street. I remember it well. It was a sad day when it was torn down. Something delicious, gone forever 😢

I remember seeing those commercials, thinking, ' ooooh, I'd love to go to one of those.'the nearest one was 90 minutes away. Good commercials.

Oh, memories. As a child growing up in Coos Bay, Oregon in the '60''s & '70's, Shakey's Pizza Parlor was where my parents would treat my two younger sisters & I nearly every Friday night, then drop us off at the skating rink for 4 + hours of some peace & quiet away from us kids. I remember the long tables, small stools, and the ramp to the window of the kitchen where we could watch the chefs tossing pizza dough in the air. Mom would always order the large "Shakey's Special" with bay shrimp on top. I also remember the picture of the founder framed in a toilet seat above the entrance! Someone had a sense of humor... I also remember this restaurant having the "adult's only" section in the second half of the building. My guess it was basically a tavern, but it had a functioning wood burning fireplace! The more I think about it, this property was probably a franchise.

Oh how I miss Shakeys! Not only yummy wings and thin crust pizza but family fun as well. Our Shakeys in Ct. had animatronics for a stand in band during the week. Lots of memories they made for me. I'd love to see a return od Shakeys...no rodent mascots...

By the 70s, Shakeys had spread to my hometown in Delaware and every kid I knew wanted to have a Shakeys pizza party for their birthdays.

Back in the day, fast food was not a thing except in commercials. Eating out was something your grandparents did when they visited. Shakey's was THE major event in a grade school child's life. Across five or six years, you were lucky to see the inside of a Shakey's five or ten times. Oh, man, was it special. You saw that glowing sign every time you rode past. Sometimes, you could smell it. Then, on that fateful Friday or Saturday, there you were.

I miss Shakey's. My family would get the pizza with everything, including cocktail shrimp. They also had a great salad bar and huge cinnamon rolls.

Every summer my brother and I would go visit our cousins. My Aunt would take all of us to Shakey's pizza.

I remember the Shakey's pizza place in our town. It even had BBQ chicken that was amazing. It even put KFC BBQ chicken to shame. Some developer bought the place, and we begged him not to destroy the place. We even protested the destruction of this place. One night he had a company come in to destroy under cover of darkness. We screamed in anger, and I walked on the property to grab a brick. As I walked out, and tossed the brick into my car, and then gave him the middle finger, and drove off. I still to day this have this brick.
