    Great video, Wayne! Thanks a bunch!!! I just installed an ESL20 on my Champion Medalist and replaced the S&G dial lock within 20 minutes. Didn't even have to redrill the relocker plate.

    Thanks Wayne. I had problems with my Browning safe right out of the box, but it was a small fix. The electronic lock was screwed in too tight from inside the door and it was preventing the catch from locking. I came back off on the screws a tiny tad and it worked fine. I wasn't sure how that secondary dead bolt mechanism was suppose to fire to operate, but your video explained it all, plus showed me how to replace or upgrade my digital key pad. Thanks again. JD

    wayne, very helpful- I have one --its an SG- and I want to change it out like you did- but when I open the electronic lock, it automatically closes by itself in a few seconds. Theoretically the bolts would be open so the hole would be blocked, I am assuming it does that so that when you close the bolts it will lock by itself. Some of the bolts on the locks have one side radiused,---what does that accomplish? My lock/safe is right hand closing or whatever, and that concerns me that it might be an issue with this electronic lock automatically closing after a few seconds. Every time I have seen one installed, even on yours, its a down locking. I'm just concerned I might need that radiused kind of bolt on the electronic lock. Do you know what I am talking about? Thanks Wayne.

From the looks of the safe door, once the inside cover is off, it looks like just one nut has to come off in order to change out the opener handle for a hub/spoke handle. Nice. if relocker is giving a person a hard time can you just disable it/take it out ?(understanding you have lessened the security of course.) Also, roughly how long /many Cycles does the solenoid last for before you become locked out with digital locks?

    • @waynewinton

      Removing the relocker can be done but it is highly NOT advised. As far as cycles go theya re all diffrent. a good estomate is 25,000 to 50,000 or 5 years depending on use.

  • @jakeblanton6853
    @jakeblanton6853 Před 3 lety

    An interesting modification might be to leave the dial lock in the original place and mount the keypad lock to the left of it (as viewed from the outside). There looks to be enough room there to do it, but you would need to cut a slot in the bar for the mechanism's dead bolt to go through and possibly a mounting pad that attached to the inside of the door like is already used in the existing lock. This would allow you to just lock the safe with the keypad when you are home so that you could gain access to your firearm quickly, but to lock it with both locks when you are going to be away from home for any length of time and fast access to your firearms is not a concern...
    It looks like you have that safe in your garage though... Even if it is bolted down, that's not that great of an idea... You are putting the safe in a place where they can use a vehicle to pull it from the concrete and just drag it onto a truck or trailer, plus you are putting it in a location where you are likely providing them with all the tools they might need to gain access to your safe, just in case they didn't bring the necessary tools with them... Of course, there's also the issue of it not being a climate controlled environment...

    One thing to be concerned about with keypad locks is whether the logic board is located inside the lock with the locking mechanism or if it is located outside the unit under the keypad. Locating it outside the unit under the keypad is a VERY POOR DESIGN since it most likely means that the wires feeding through the face of the door are just providing power to move the solenoid and if you remove the keypad, you could provide power to the appropriate conductors and the solenoid would activate even without entering the combination... It's a pretty basic concept, but there are still some cheap safe manufacturers out there that make this mistake...

    Small vise grips and screwdriver to remove the spline key. When your E Lock fails remember the orientation VD when you reinstall the mechanical lock. And don't forget, now you have made your safe so much faster to drill by installing a digital lock, less than 30 minutes depending on the hardplate. Just for fun, if you call Amsec and get the drill point for that particular safe, the final step shows using scissors.

      Also remember that these are not "safes". They are "residential security containers". That steel on the door is too thin to be classified as a "safe". You would pay a lot more for a true safe and it would start out being rated at a UL TL-15 rating. That's 1" of steel in the door and body. For the size of "safe" that he has here, that would probably mean a starting price of around $4K.

    Your video demonstration on the relocker is not the best and hard to understand what you did and the purpose of the relocker

    I'm leaving a comment because I really wanted to have ur knowlege but the poor sound quality, ur work in very poor lighting & the camera jostling back & forth forced me to call it quits.
    I have made many professional training videos, a few tips as folllows: cut the camera movement by 90%, draw into a medium shot, leave it there, no ones is intersted in seeing a good pic of ur left shoulder or ur hands working in a shadow,(2) set ur lights so the point of interest is lit at all times, do not cross in front of lights or camera ( 3 wear a wireless mic, ur sound rose as u drew the camera in, then fell off dramatically when drawn back, also sound was further complicated by noise on the video (4 ) Most important, sit down with a pen & paper & make a storyboard script, detail camera position, lighting position, ur position & script the entire video from fade in to fade out finish, script the subject & what u will say, coordinate ur words with individual cameos, for instance, make a shot of u pulling the main pin showing ur hands & the parts, pair it down to the info only, that's what people want not pics of ur smiling face, hands, shadows or shoulders. Writing a script is thoughtful planning for the best product, it forces u to give it ur best thoughts, isn't that what "quality" is about?

      Thanks for the feedb but You just don't get my style. It's rough and raw and also real. It is intentionally not to be designed of production quality studio unscripted. and yes video person that must be annoying but to the average person who simply looking for something to tell them how to do what it is they need to accomplish it works well.
