The story line with the girl was important for 3 reasons: 1st: To show the difference/similarities between secular and spiritual beliefs also being demonstrated by Connery's pragmatic monk character. "She was the only worldy love of my life" 2nd:The title. Adso says that though the image of her face grew stronger as he grew old,he never learned that beautiful girls name! The name of that mysterious beautiful rose (girl). 3rd: Its adso's story. He narrates it&it is about his journey with Connery.
Watched it last night in memory of Sean Connery and Michael Lonsdale

I love how the movie isn't really a horror,but still manages to creep me out severely
