- Based on the Umberto Eco novel of the same name, Jean-Jacques Annaud's film gives Sean Connery's medieval monk a murder mystery to solve with some help from a young Christian Slater. The pair do their best Holmes and Watson while facing off against F. Murray Abraham's menacing inquisitor.

Just watched this on laserdisc yesterday after having not seen it since i was a teen. This is one of those films that gets better with age, I think its very underrated considering the talent involved.
The ending of this film made such an impact on my childhood. I've lived my life in a state of perpetual nastalgia and aware that the small choices we make can permanently alter our fates ❤
I wouldn’t worry about spoilers in a movie from 1986. The folks looking this film up are probably looking for a discussion about the film. Glad to see someone covering it though! Cheers
This is one of my favorite books and movies!
This movie is a fascinating look at a time and place that I think has been seldom depicted in a quality movie. I have seen it several times over the past 15 years, may be time for another look. Also, there is modeling of male mentoring.
I loved this movie when it came out. As a murder/mystery fan, this put a real twist on it by being such a great period piece. Very atmospheric, and reminded me of a wonderful Agatha Christie mystery set in ancient Egypt. I have not found it on any of the streaming services. It seems to only be available on DVD. Thanks for this👍
No, it doesn’t seem to be on any streaming sites which is a shame because it’s a great movie that still holds up today. Thanks for the comment, Kellie 😎 ~ J
It has just been reedited in 4k
One of my favourite movies as a kid.
Hey, it's great to see you chaps back 📽 😍 🤘
Ron Perlman is a legend he starred in City of lost children.
He has amazing filmography.
You'll be glad to know this film has recently been restored in 4K format. I also watched the mini-series with John Turturro, that takes more characters and subplots from the novel, expands the main female part and adds an action girl (because too many men?). Quite decent show anyway but nowhere near Annaud's work in terms of atmosphere, especially the oppressive lock-in feeling.
great movie and also the last of austrian actor legend helmut qualtinger.
90s Where a great Movie Decade. I hope great stuff like this comes back!
This was from 86
JUST GOT IN THE TUBI LINEUP IF YOU ARE IN THE USA... Definitely watching Tonight 🎉🥳🙏 thanks you guys
Great film. This film had its loss Columbia Pictures deal due to Sean Connery lack of box office appeal which the following year Connery had his comeback with The Untouchables.
What a great movie
A very good film, different spin, like a modern day crime drama based in medieval times. Loved it.
A gem !
All I can hear is Blaze Bayley belting out the chorus to Sign of the Cross. Oh, and welcome back 😄
Big fan of Maiden but I’ve never listened to Blaze’s contribution so I hadn’t realised about the connection, just had a listen to that one today, so I’ll have to give the whole record a spin finally!
@@cineXplorers The X Factor has some great moments - especially the darker tracks. Blood on the World's Hands is excellent, Lord of the Flies is really good, as is The Aftermath. The whole middle part of the final track is great too. A very different album, but a really great grower with some genuinely unusual territory for the band.
When will you guys review The Warriors (1979)
Can you dig it 🙌🙏
Now _all_ the guys are back 😁
Where can I find this film? I remember it from when I was a kid and really want to watch it again, but its not available from any major online retailers (last I looked).
I would try eBay, seems like there's a few copies that are reasonably priced.
Just came out on TUBI
720p though
It is being re edited in 4K
Just got in from a night out and lo and behold, I see you’ve made another video fantastic had to watch. Please keep it up guys!❤
We'll try!
Cracking film.
Jean Jacques Annaud - Two Brothers (2004) - Guy Pearce! 😄
Hey guys, can you review Frantic 1988 ???
Oh, that would be a good one to do! Thanks for the suggestion, Alan, we’ll add it to our list 😎

Nel finale
If Sean Connery was a monk, I don't think the woman would have realistically went with Christian Slater when James Bond is there!😂
Now I’m trying to imagine what this film would have been like if James Bond was the monk 😂
Ron Perlman never got any smarter.
the book is better.
You two had-to look-up the word, "Palimpsest"?
Stay on the internet, kids!
Your co-worker has looks maxed.
Huh? 🤔
