Rediscovering: Johnny Skidmarks (1998)
zhlédnutí 186Před 8 měsíci
Peter Gallagher plays the unfortunately nicknamed Johnny Skidmarks in this 90's neo-noir, which sees a crime scene photographer in fear for his life when his latest blackmail victim wants revenge. A great cast isn't quite enough to save this film, which, on top of the strange title choice, has trouble deciding exactly what it wants to be. Thanks to the viewer who suggested it anyway, as it's on...

The film that got Peter Yates the Bullitt gig, Robbery is a loose telling of the 1963 Great Train Robbery, which saw a band of thieves make off with £2.6 million in cash. Rediscovering: The Hunted (2003)
zhlédnutí 761Před 11 měsíci
In honour of the late William Friedkin we look back at one of his lesser known films, The Hunted, starring Benicio del Toro and Tommy Lee Jones. It's a tale of PTSD pushing a former soldier over the edge and the instructor sent to track him down. A lean, tight thriller of few words, it wastes no time getting to the action and rarely pauses for breath. Thanks for watching and please subscribe if...
Rediscovering: Three Fugitives (1989)
zhlédnutí 1,3KPřed 11 měsíci
Francis Veber remakes his own film, Les Fugitifs, for English audiences. It sees Nick Nolte playing an ex-con trying to go straight and Martin Short as the amateur bank robber who gets him in trouble with the law again. Filled with slapstick humour, mainly at Short's expense, the oddball pairing works for the most part and the film is strongest when the pair are sparring off each other. Thanks ...

One of a number of remakes of 50s sci-fi movies to come out in the 80s, Invaders from Mars bucks the trend of adding buckets of blood, as Tobe Hooper sticks with the paranoia and keeps things family friendly. Stan Winston and John Dykstra provide the fun creature effects while real life mother and son Karen Black and Hunter Carson make watchable leads. Thanks for watching and please subscribe i...

Actually, it features shots of Mt Sopris from the turnoff at Cattle Creek Road, Missouri Heights, Glenwood Springs (police station, Doc Holidays, train station) as well as the Sutank Bridge & main street In Carbondale. All locations from The Roaring Fork Valley. My uncle was the fire chief at the time and he was on set at night for the bridge diving scene.
“Could have been made yesterday “ that’s because so little has changed. 😫
Hyperbolic/exaggerated but, yeah, that was essentially the zeitgeist. I knew all those archetypes. IMO, this is the best film representation of what service in Germany during the late Cold War era was like. You didn't leave your barracks room without listening carefully and looking both ways first. -- a former US Army parachute infantry light weapons sergeant
I actually liked how the music's cut up in this film, makes it feel subliminal almost as if you yourself are being brainwashed. Also the soundtrack's done by the legendary Tangerine Dream ❤️
Pretty close to "K-PAX", more romantic though.
Jack is a Supreme actor..its as real as a movie gets..life is a bitch
There is something perfect about this film . Cast script Acting Editing Directing sound . T U .
Remember seeing this film when i was young and thinking this was real
I was 24 when this movie came out. I still love it!
One of my absolute favorites!!
Golden age of Hollywood ...peak Nicholson..Great movie .
Jojo Rabbit didn't make you laugh because you're too dumb to get the jokes, sorry
Can you please do a film review on the 1967 movie ( The Incident ) ? Thank you
I do think the way that Billybob was groomed was a bit stagey, with the toilet paper on the shaving nick, the taped-up glasses, the stringy hair. It was a bit too much like a parody in a sketch show. I know the hair and makeup departments usually handle those things, but I wouldn’t be surprised if these were Billybob’s choices given how eccentric he is/was.
“I’ll have to read their review”-the “two thumbs up” review from Siskel & Ebert was from their TV show, so you can probably find the clip of their discussion on here. (They did also write reviews, but didn’t use the thumbs system in their written reviews)
If you guys are still making videos (hope so!) then I recommend doing a rediscovering of Figures in a Landscape [1970] starring Robert Shaw and Malcolm McDowell. Good movie that is very underseen and can be watched on youtube or rented from Prime etc.
The ending of this film made such an impact on my childhood. I've lived my life in a state of perpetual nastalgia and aware that the small choices we make can permanently alter our fates ❤
Cracking western this got it in my collection
Excellent movie. Cast does a great job with Ayer's script. He should keep writing these kinds of films. 5/5
Best line of the movie: "Hey Flea, where's that house?" "Over there...Hey my name's Razzle, man!"
I wonder what the worl would be like if the first world war was the war that ended future wars we would probably still wear stetson hats and drive around with less arodynamic cars.
Fantastic film . I was fourteen when this came out , the height of the Cold War , that London I knew so well …. And how gorgeous Greta Scachhi is ❤️ Great cast , great story , love it .
Buckwheats. Buckwheats for everyone.
Thank you.
About the other contestants: The religious nurse, Connie, was the well-memed lady in the Esurance commercial saying, "That's not how any of this works." And the teenage girl, Lindsay, would go on to star in Nurse Jackie and have a major role in The Walking Dead.
😎🙏💯
🇬🇧 💷
It's weird it would be an anti-Establishment left-wing film in 1986 but now it would be dismissed as right-wing conspiracy theory.
Nice job on the review, guys. Modern viewers might not appreciate how solid the special effects were for the early 80s. The story works in spite of the effects because the story was about the people, not the nuclear war. Threads was similar in that regard, but Threads extinguished any hint of hope whereas The Day After doesn't show all the continuing death.
i love this movie its actually so good its on iplayer!
I love how this movie is a little capsule of what reality tv looked like before it really took off as a genre. The only thing it's missing is fake ads. I wish I could find the deleted scenes online
Love this movie. This is Tims life (Til Schweiger) before Mark in SLC Punk hahaha 😂❤
"... Britain in the 80s was quite a tense place..."? No shit, Shirley. Young people today wouldn't have lasted five minutes.
My Dad, now late Dad, and I actually went and seen this movie in the theatre when it first came out... We loved it... I still do... I have it on Blu-ray and I still watch it 3 to 4 times a year...
BLEEDAN AWFUL!!!!!!!! 😖
Michelle Rodriguez was really pretty in this movie. I enjoyed it and I agree that the ending shoulda been better. N the guy’s brother shoulda least got arrested.
If I have to listen to one more second of this fucker rubbing his ashy-ass sandpaper hands together…
Too bad the Jabberwock was only in it for 3 minutes, the film was a long waste of time.
I was working at the ballroom on the upper esplanade and bojangles was on the lower esplanada just below it on the beach in St kilda. When i walked out of work at day break i noticed these very luminous lights on over at bojangles. I walked over the esplanade and there was the Turk lying on his side and several police (two detectives) looking over him. But his body was next to the beach road and not next to bojangles. So about 70 metres away from the side exit in the film.
It’s a decent film well worth watching at least once.
You'll be glad to know this film has recently been restored in 4K format. I also watched the mini-series with John Turturro, that takes more characters and subplots from the novel, expands the main female part and adds an action girl (because too many men?). Quite decent show anyway but nowhere near Annaud's work in terms of atmosphere, especially the oppressive lock-in feeling.
One of my favorite serial killer movies. I've watched it for 25+ years probably a dozen or more times. Weaver, Hunter are excellent. So different from their other roles. I almost forgot she was bad ass Ripley😮😊😊😊 It's funny, this was the first thing I've seen Harry Connick Jr in, he goes on to do music , movies and American Idol.... he will always be Darrell Lee Culum to me.😅
Came across your channel when I was looking for a review on Penelope Spheeris Suburbia. I watched all your videos, and I've just got to say I really like what you do, there is no snobbery or pretentiousness like so many other CZcams film channels and hope you keep doing what you're doing because it's great.
Thanks for the comment, glad you're enjoying our content! 👍
This and "The Decline of Western Civilization" are two of the best 'punk' movies ever made.
As a teen 'punk' in the late 80's, THIS movie was truly about "us". Accurate reflection of "the scene" as we all called it. The typical American 'punk' looked a LOT like these kids in their day to day lives.. and then how they looked at the 'shows'. The Vandals were one of my favorite bands, and I had a few TSOL albums... both have incredible scenes in this movie.
The live stuff is amazing, except the scene where the woman is stripped and everyone laughs, nobody intervenes (until the club manager, played by legendary punk drummer Nickey Beat). I don't know of any punk scene anywhere where that wouldn't have been shut down real quick, but as they stated Roger Corman (RIP) had a few rules for his productions and required a certain amount of action, violence, and/or sexual content as part of his signature formula, he would never get too hung up on "realism" (obvious to anyone who's seen many of his productions) because he considered films to be purely entertainment.
I loved it too, it's been my fav movie since I was 3, up to now when I'm 35. English isn't my native language and I'd ask my dad to play Kill Him, that's how I called the movie even though it's said only once XD So it had a kind of The Little Prince effect in my life.
Im so happy that somebody on CZcams knows about this movie. This movie belongs aside, natural born killers, true romance, and Kalifornia.
Tim Roth was 21 in this Film 🎥 not 16
Julien is a tool. Sophie is really just responding in kind to him. The whole thing kind of shingles over with a "they're both doing it"message..… But this is really all about a guy and his ego going completely out of control. And then the woman actually besting him at it in the end.
I remember getting a tour of the Nimitz with my brother in Norfolk in 1976 by one of the crew it was a fantastic experience and when the Movie was released around 1981 I had to see it
