How to Make a Sushi Set

- I had a blast finally making a sushi set. You've got your board, chopsticks, chopsticks holder, and of course a little dish for your soy sauce and wasabi.
Here's my process of how I pulled off the set. Hope you enjoy!

Wow! That came out great. I really like the copper look. You could've also saved the offcut and put it back in place with double stick tape or ca glue on tape to cut the rest of the chamfers with the table saw.

I found this video 6 months ago I never use epoxy but I did batch these out for a craft fair and they were very popular I just have a hard tim with making identical chop sticks but very fun to make

I just ran into some of your videos this week, and your work in bowls is exceptional, and sushi set is in the above -grade -super -gift category, very well done, very nice. I would point out one thing you might consider working on. On a 10 minute 44 second presentation, how many times do you think you said "Uh". You may not be aware, or care, but hey, if that's your only problem........CHEERS!

What epoxy did you use that was food safe?
Great work on this. I'm new to wood working and just learning the ropes. I love the cutting board videos as well. I was wondering how much time do you think you have in this project?
Appreciate it! This one was ridiculous time wise. Lots of time planning and figuring it out. Hard to even estimate. Making it again, probably 8-10 ish hrs. First time through, double that 😁 Honestly, no clue time wise. But it was a fun new idea.

Great work I have a question how did you make the workbench top what’s it made of.
I actually just used 2x4s from Home Depot. Waited until they dried out in the shop and then trimmed them to 1”x3”

Because of your video I’ve started making my family a sushi set! I’m on the soy sauce dish now and wondering what dimensions you used? I was thinking a 3in hole saw?
Awesome! I think it was 3” but just go with whatever size you’d prefer based on sushi size.
So, big sushi maker and eater here. Question, as I am thinking about making my own serving tray, plates, and chopsticks. I really like your design and look the best of the 10 or so I have seen on YT. The epoxy you've used, does the oil finish protect against any of the epoxy chemicals? I have to assume the epoxy is not food-safe but the oil finish you put over it is. Thanks for any answers and again, love the look. Love the low-profile and especially the copper epoxy.
Thanks! Loads of debates out there on the leeching of chemicals and what’s food safe. With the oil finish and the fact that I’m not using it as a cutting board, and cutting the surface, I was comfortable with it.
What about the dish
Very nice sushi set, love the epoxy inside. Did you cut out the shape of the base before you started or was that part of a live edge?

You run your epoxy projects through your planer most of the time. I know this is quicker then sanding for sure, but does the epoxy not dull your blades fairly quickly since it is so hard? If it does, is that a sacrifice your willing to make for speed and efficiency or do you find that is not the case and the wear is negligible?
The biggest concern running epoxy through the planer is chip out. But outside of using the drum sander, any flattening method could cause chip out. I’d say the wear to blades is negligible and comparable to dried glue.
Can you give me the name of the belt sander you are using please. this was a great video , planning to take this project on....

All the ums we’re a major turn-off. Tried watching through it but it was way overwhelming.
Yeah viewers cannot unsee you demonstrating that unsafe technique, same as school children cannot unsee erroneous spelling on the blackboard. No amount of warning in the commentary can ever make up for that.
Lots of "uh" and "um". Video is from 2020, so maybe you've broken the habit by now but yeah, not enjoyable.
