  • In this video we have retrofitted a DEPO headlight, because the original headlights have a very hard sealant. And the DEPO unit is sealed with butyl, which is easier to open. This headlight is used in BMW 1 series E81/E82/E87/E88.
    The retrofit with the Aharon bi-xenon projector gives a very good improvement in light output and looks!
    So when you want a custom headlight with a better light output, don't hesitate and improve your BMW!

      this can be done once the headlights are mounted onto the car. But please note, you do not have to put the glasses on the headlight yet

    How do you remove the chrome reflector bowl from the headlight if I wanted to paint this?

    • @Retrofitlab
      @Retrofitlab  Před 3 lety +1

      You need to completely unscrew the reflector part by turning/loosening the adjustment screws. And removing the ball joint from the headlight height adjuster. Usually not too hard, sometimes a bit of lube, heat or good pliers can help.

    Hi, Is Depo a a good quality brand (aftermarket)? There is another better?

    • @Retrofitlab
      @Retrofitlab  Před 4 lety

      For retrofitting they are usually very good, because they are not very expensive and are sealed with butyl, which is easy to open :-)

  • @marleybrooks9894
    @marleybrooks9894 Před 5 měsíci +1

    Should I use any adhesive to secure the shroud or projector as I’m thinking over time vibrations will cause them to loosen?

    • @Retrofitlab
      @Retrofitlab  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Although the centric ring fits very tight around the lens holder, in time with vibrations, there is a small chance that it loosens and falls off. So a tiny bit of adhesive is a good way to prevent it.

    Is this about the same directions as for the e90 halogens?

    • @Retrofitlab
      @Retrofitlab  Před 3 lety

      Yes, but 'about the same' the headlights we have used are DEPO ones and easy to open because they are sealed with butyl. The OEM BMW ones are usually a bit harder to open.

    Is led kit easier? Do I need to drill the hole on the back of my headlight?
    I saw a thread on 1 series forum about a guy doing led retrofit to his 128i. And it peaked my interest, as my halogens SUCK at night.

    • @Retrofitlab
      @Retrofitlab  Před 2 lety +1

      The LED kit is a little bit easier to install because you don't have a large ballast/starter to mount and you don't have the cables for the ballast going in/out the headlight for which you need to drill a hole.

      @@Retrofitlab In terms of sheer light output, would you recommend the AtomLED X2 or the Primo Ultimo? Thinking of getting one for my 1-Series, torn which one to get.

    Every time you make a video, you never show if you align low and main beam optically and how to do that.
    Do you do that?

    • @Retrofitlab
      @Retrofitlab  Před 4 lety +2

      Because alignment can be done in several ways, and is a completely different process, we don't include it in our video's. But we can definitely make a video about it. It can be done by leveling the headlight and the beam on a workbench for example, but also by mounting them on the car and adjusting them on te car.
