Exactly. My grandma ends up doing that. I think the creators of the rip offs aim it toward grandparents so that they'll get confused and get the wrong film which is the rip off.

What's funny is that, while many of the Disney staff have admitted to watching Kimba the White Lion while they were young, but they weren't influenced by it while working on The Lion King. Also, Lion King co-director Roger Allers worked as an animator in Japan during the 1980s. The Lion King was released in 1994.

Lion King is not a "rip off" of Kimba the Lion, it just REMINDS YOU of Kimba. If there are similarities, it's due to overlapping tropes that exist in children's stories. These movies have:
    -different styles
    -different characters/designs
    -different editing/pacing
-different genres (one's a freakin musical)
    -different STORYLINES
One is 20 hours of serialized content, and one is a tight 89 minutes of movie. The similarities in name are only because "Simba" is a literal translation of the Swahili word for "Lion", obviously where Kimba also drew it's inspiration from.
Other than a that one frame that sort-of reminds people of pride-rock (found the same rock in Skyrim too, while playing as a khajiit.) they're really completely different pieces of art.

Simba: Would all of you STOP calling my movie a ripoff of my friend Kimba?! (and also please stop drawing fan art of us killing each other and/or being enemies please?) sure there are a few similarities but--
Kimba: Unlike my name, the name Simba actually means something, and we are both based off of Hamlet! End of story!
Simba: See? even my friend, Kimba agrees with me! So yeah, End of Story!

Actually, The Lion King started off as a Kimba movie, but Disney eventually lost the rights to it so they made their own version of it instead. That's why there are so many similarities to Kimba... It WAS supposed to be Kimba.

Spider-Man was a villain in Revenge of Shinobi, as were Rambo, T-1000, Batman and Godzilla. It was actually a single shapeshifter though but one version replaced him with the real one once they got the rights.
Funny thing too, Later incremental versions would ultimately replace all but Spider-Man who was merely pallet-swapped also the replacement for Batman was removed when the real Spider-Man was put in because the shapeshifter would change from Spider-Man to Batman(a reference to Kamen Rider?).

I wish people would stop saying that The Lion King was an outright rip-off of Kimba. It looks like they took some design ideas from it, but the story is WAY different.

It's a pixar ripoff where the opening QUARTER of the movie is of random customers ordering food and talking about the food and complaining about the food IN THE SAME SCENE completely unbroken. It's physically painful to watch.
And the same company has ripoffs for every pixar film.

this can all be explained as follows:
one guy visits another country, and sees something potentially exploitable... goes back to his country, asks around to see if anyone knows the product, and given that nobody does, then he finds a market.
    .....and exploits that market.
hey! not the guy's fault if his people are 30 years behind everyone else!
and much less the guy's fault if they don't care about catching up!

While there is controversy on whether Disney's The Lion King ripped off Osamu Tezuka's Kimba the White Lion, legendary American animator Glen Keane, who worked at Disney for decades, stated that Japanese animation has heavily influenced Disney animation since Disney's 1990 animated feature, The Rescuers Down Under. Hayao Miyazaki, "the Walt Disney of Japan," has been described by Pixar/Disney animation head John Lasseter as, along with Walt Disney, as of the one of two greatest figures in animation history. Pixar's Peter Docter is another great admirer of Miyazaki. Keane, Lasseter, and Docter have avowed Miyazaki's and Japanese influences in their work.
