Thanks. Things certainly improve with practice. I still do my highlights all these years later. Sometimes there’s a minor whoopsie here and there but overall it’s still worth it. Good luck to you if you also do your down. You can do it!
I did and it turned out surprisingly great! The pin tail comb and brush are a must to get close to the roots. The back was a bit challenging but I just did like 4-5 at the top and it pretty much covered it. Later I’ll do the under side so I don’t look ridiculous when I put it in a ponytail
Angeline Biswas great job!!! So glad you tackled it in sections so it was easier and it turned out well. Great work! You’re going to save a ton of money over time when you just want a little touch up here and there.
Love it :) thanks. PS my roots grew out and during this quaretine cannot go to salon so about to attempt to do it myself. What do u think ? Any suggestions
I think if you have confidence and patience... and you work in sections... you can certainly give it your best shot. It’s pretty simple if you just take it slow. Practice with a few sheets of foil and a brush and instead of using bleach, use a bowl of conditioner. That way you can test if your able to weave out the highlight pieces, see if you feel comfortable painting on the fake bleach aka conditioner on the foil and fold them up. It will also give you an idea how quickly or slowly you work. It’s worth a try! It will save you oodles of money to do it yourself over time. The practice should show you if you can do it.
asik sajib I use a couple of mirrors and do a few foils. You could also ask a friend or family member to do a few for you. I am also only doing a partial highlight and not my whole head. I hope that helps 😀
For me... yes it does. I have a naturally light brown hair to start with. For people with darker brown hair they would likely need a much stronger volume lift. I try to use the lowest volume possible to be kind to my hair and prevent as much damage as possible. I would do some test strands if I had darker hair and was going to use a stronger developer to see what works for them and if they get to their desired lift.
This has helped so much.I do a friend of mines and usually mine and I was wondering how to stop the bleeding. (I've done some hair dressing and got taught the basics but not that)
My regrowth is just a bit darker than yours.. I am thinking about doing this at home but had a few questions if you had time to answer! Would you recommend I use 10 volume first for my foils then use 20 vol and to go through them again after I finish the foils? I am super slow while foiling so I was wondering if this is a good tactic.
Great question! I would say If your darker than I am, I would go with the 20 volume to start with. No need to do two different volumes. The 10 volume won’t likely be enough power to lift your hair no matter how long you let it sit (I wouldn’t recommend leaving it for a long time to find out... the 10 can still do some damage if left for a long time and your hair may be too brassy. Go for the 20). I would also say work in sections so you don’t feel rushed. Like plan to just do a quarter of your hair at a time... foil it, watch it lift, rinse it out, then move to the next section. That will give you time to work each area without feeling rushed to lift them all evenly at the same time.
You definitely can do chunky highlights using this method. It’s super important to make sure each section is fully saturated in bleach... which gets more difficult with thicker sections but can certainly be accomplished. Work slowly, neatly and make sure the bleach is fully around each strand of hair in that section and not just painted on top. Wrap in foils to lift so they don’t dry out. You’ve got this!
@@matthewbrown3892 I don’t typically. But I have fine hair and I don’t usually get a ton of difficult tangles. It is a great idea for people who are prone to tangles though. 😀
Good question! I have never used the creme lightener but I know many people like it. I would say do a test strand on your hair. Wrap it in foil and check it every 5 minutes to see how it’s developing. Make sure the hair is very saturated with product if you use it and you may be able to get the same outcome depending on the color of your hair and if you have previously applied other colors. Good luck! Let us know how the test strand turns out. You can cut a very small lock of your hair from the middle back of your head and know one will know it’s missing. Like 10 literal strands of hair at the most.
TheBlushedBeauty hi I love your video so much, the conditioner trick is the best! It turned out amazing, so I did baby lights on my daughter and it really turned out great! Thanks so much ❤️
Yayyy!! I am so happy it worked well for you. Yes!! Conditioner on the parts that have finished lifting while the other areas catch up... it works like a charm and stops the processing. It also helps condition the hair a bit after the harsh chemicals. I am so happy you had a great experience and felt confident to do her hair. Great job! Now you can continue to do it every time she wants a touch up.
Great question. I typically just do my crown and not the full back of my head. If I was going to do the full back of my head I would use two large mirrors facing each other with myself in the middle to see back there. I might even suggest doing the front part and crown and then washing it out and doing the back separately so you can focus on that section without over processing the front while taking your time doing the back. Having a very trustworthy friend or family member who cares about details to do the back would be helpful too. You can totally do it alone but just take your time and work the front first... wash it out. Dry your hair then separate the back and do that section next using mirrors and patience. Good luck! Let me know how it goes.
Does anyone know how I can achieve level 7 dark blonde highlights on dark virgin hair roots(dark brown) I have a full head of level 7 dark blonde highlights and about 3-4 inches of root growth. What developer volume do I need? Do I mix it with a colour? Hope someone can help I would really appreciate it! Thank you
Annabelle you would likely need a 30 volume to attempt to get out some of the gold and copper tones that will come forward. You do not mix bleach powder with color. You only mix powdered bleach with cream developed. Please do a test strand before attempting to do your whole head. Please also work in sections at a time and wash out between so you can focus on being accurate and that one section will develop all at the same time. If you do too much it will come out uneven and you may make mistakes.
@@TheBlushedBeauty thank you! So is the developer all I'll need? Will that lift to level 7? I'm not sure what my hairdresser does, it's just one mixture, My hairdresser achieves the result with a little heat but not too much. I havent been able to ask him what he does I do know he uses a toner in my hair after the colour as well.
Annabelle just 30 volume cream developer (do NOt use 40 developer no matter what!!!) and powder bleach. Those mixed together as a 1 to 1 ratio will make a single pastey cream you will paint on your hair in foils. Wait until your hair has been highlighted/bleached to go to the beauty supply store to ask the people there what toner you will need. You will not know what toner you will need until your hair is highlighted.. it may lift different tones that you will need a different toner for than you expect.

hi! I have plantuim hair I really want to start highlighting my roots I have about 2-3 months of growth do you think I can try to highlight it? I have never highlighted my hair before and nervous
Hi!! Great question. I think the key is knowing what to do, and then having the confidence to take your time and do it. I think almost anyone could learn to highlight their own hair! You may want to have a friend join you to help you if you miss any spots. Consult with a person at the beauty supply store to find out what formulation of bleach powder and cream developer will work best for you. Fingers crossed! Let me know how great it turns out!
Healthandbeautygirl I am a natural level 6 on the goldwell scale. I predominantly use Goldwell products. I can lift mine with a level 10 but I would likely guess a level 20 volume peroxide will be enough without causing as much damage as higher levels of developer.
TheBlushedBeauty oh no! The girl at Sally's told me to use 30 volume because I told her that I pull a lot of red and orange . She also said that 20 will only lift 2 shades. I'm just scared of damaging my hair. Since I bought the 30, maybe I'll have to do the cap method so it all processes at once. 😩
Healthandbeautygirl you can take your time and work in sections and rinse out and then do another section once it lifts to the color you want. You can also just cut a test section of hair... like 5 hairs and do a sample bleach on a piece of foil and see how the 30 does. You can bleach it and then rinse it and dry it and see how your hair will feel and look without doing your hair and risking it. Try a sample and see if you feel comfortable with it.
TheBlushedBeauty thanks, I'll try that. Btw. Do you use a 1:1 ratio of bleach to developer ? The girl at Sally's told me it doesn't matter what ratio you use. She said as long as it's the consistency you want! 🤔

So, purple shampoo is what will take out the brassiness right? I was at Sally's and the woman told me about a "toner" and that I had to match it to my hair color? I am confused as I told her that I wanted it to take out the brassy color I get when I highlight. Do I use a toner also? And if so, what toner do I use? Or will the purple shampoo work the same? Thanks in advance.
Jodi Cox I think if your hair isn’t really blonde then the purple shampoo will be enough cos a toner will only take out a certain amount of brassy tones. Your hair needs to be quite light for the toner to really work, that’s just from what I’ve learnt by watching heaps of these vids n tutorials 😂
If you have unwanted yellow tones, you use a purple based toner or purple shampoo. Unwanted yellowish-orange needs purple-blue base. The Generic brand makes purple and blue, so you could mix them if needed. If you have unwanted orange tones, use a blue based toner or blue shampoo. Unwanted reddish-orange, needs a blue-green base. If you have unwanted reddish tones, you want to use a green based toner (I have not seen a green shampoo.) Toners may not work or may tone your hair too much if you are not familiar with them and how they work.
