    Thanks for this vid. Here in the States, mags won't say anything bad about a bike until the new model comes out, then they'll say how bad the old style was. They don't want to be last on the receivership when new bikes come out for reviews. Or worse, lose advertising dollars.

    I know this has been out for some time but I just came across it. I have always bought a frame and fork and built up the bike with components of my choosing. It's certainly not the cheapest route but I end up with exactly what I want.
    I currently have on order a Bianchi Specialissima. The component list is not finalized but it will be an eclectic mix based around Super Record shifters and derailleurs.
    Not a criticism but just another way of doing things.

    The best deal right now is probably the Tarmac SL7 Pro. Most of the important differences come from the new wheels. They're apparently just as fast in "road" conditions as the CLX64 and quite a bit lighter. Getting them as the CL range on an SL7 Pro for $7000 is still a lot but I doubt Alaphilippe would have noticed if the Pro (model) level gear had been finished like the S-Works. There are some other really good deals out there but I don't know of any better package and that is because of how effective the new Roval wheels are.

I am shopping right now for that "right bike" but I keep hearing components, groupset, wheels etc and most of all speed speed and getting 3-5 seconds increase in speed ..was a WOW then WTF we doing biking buying by seconds in speed advantage? Got friends buying bikes in the $3k, $6k then $10k+ really? I am just looking for decent (carbon) frame (15-17lbs), aesthetic and great looking design, right groupset & wheels EVERYTHING else i think it is in the legs and riding experiences. Unless i am in biking to win some $$ I will have my bike custom and money is not an object for the ideal bike. Glad i found your vid bc now I get to narrow my shopping list. ;). Nice review and nice countering of all of the marketing stuff being thrown at us in this big dollar industry. Just one remark though. Canyon offers great value for money if you have the skills to work on your bike. Not all of us can though. The after market service for me is also an important factor in the consideration to buy a bike. I’m not claiming Canyon does not do a good job in that, but as there is no dealer network I hope everyone agrees it is not as good as other brands on that part.

    Disagree about the Cube. The price is about half of Specialized Venge pro with the same Ultegra di2 and frame of similar weight and aero properties. You can choose the wheel upgrade of your own choice and still save big chunk of cash. Only the canyon Aeroad cf sl 8.0 di2 disc can beat it in value but you lose out on fully hidden cables and a dated +slightly heavier frame. Looks are personal taste.

  • @insquares

    I think the SL7 aero claims are very misleading. How does a round downtube bike become as aero as a venge? I believe the SL7 aero benefits come from the wheelset, integrated cables and stem and aero seat tube.
    I'd rather have a Cannondale SuperSix or Cervelo R5.

    • @jimmyhor78
      @jimmyhor78 Před 3 lety

      Specialized did the testing and found that having an aero shaped downtube provided very little benefits over a round one but added a lot more weight.

      @BDH BDH I Agree. The full aero and weight benefit of the bike only comes with the $12k build with highest end groupsets. Drop down a level to the $7000 pro which is still pretty pricy and you get heavier carbon and CL rapides with round spokes. Go down another level to the $5000 expert and you have heavy aluminum wheels but you also lose the aerofly bar which is a huge part of the aero package.
      Which is why I mentioned that the Cube is actually pretty good value compared. For under $4700 you get the pro version with the exact same frame and handlecars as the top end version but with alloy wheels. You can add a pair of Hunt 50/65 or Reynolds AR58/62 at under still fall well below the price of the SL7 Pro version. That said I really love the silver color of the SL7 Expert model.

    I dont agree at all with this video. Specially calling all these high end bikes that has TDF reputation worst. Like BMC, Pinarello and specialized always seeing them crossing the finish line first, and with multiple achievements. If we’re talking about price points yes because their not affordable for the most part, but just because their price is high doesnt make them worst, cheap bikes are made with low end carbon materials and the components that comes with the bike is a big factor as well.
