It's priceless. It has the signatures of almost every single great scientist of all time since the 17th century, It's an artifact of all humanity.

I literally have tears of joy in my eyes and my heart jumps when I saw Professor Poliakoff so excited about that little titbit of information that the name of the guy below Newton gets rubbed out by people pointing to Newton, haha :) Every person on the planet should be as happy as the professor

This is crazy... You always hear about old kings and Isaac Newton in the context of them living so long ago, but those are their signatures right there in front of you. It's like you had them time travel forward and sign this book... its weird.. and amazing!

As a university physics student, it would be absolutely amazing to be in this book in the future :D
I highly doubt it would ever happen, and I probably won't even go into scientific research, but still... one can dream
Glad to see Professor Martyn Poliakoff is part of this historical collection. He has influenced earth wonderfully, by utilizing the ideas and technologies that were able to develop because of his signing predecessors.
Great video, and a great piece of history. I wonder if this has been scanned (digitalized) and saved so it won't ever be lost when there's a fire. This is one piece of history you want to backup :)

This was the single best video that I have every seen. This has and forever will drive me to one day be a part of that book and be among some of the best scientists ever.
As for the price of such an item, I believe it's up there with things like the crown jewels. In that you could never put a price on it and so it becomes completely priceless.
What anything would fetch at auction depends upon who is prepared to bid for it and how rich the second richest genuine bidder is. It's not a measure of value at all. It's just a price which is set by the depth of the pockets of the person who just loses out. If somebody was prepared to pay £500,000,000 and the second richest bidder was only prepared to pay £1,000,000 its auction price would be just over one million, how much over would depend to some extent upon the skill of the auctioneer.

I honestly don't think it's hyperbole to say that, thanks to this channel, you have possibly influenced more young minds than Darwin could ever have hoped for within his lifetime. Your impact on science may not be as massive in the direct sense, but the secondary effects are untold. As Keith says, someone watching this video right now might one day place their own name within its pages, becoming a great scientist of the world, pointing to your name as they do so, saying "There. That is why I am here. That is why I fell in love with science."
Your work, along with Brady and all the other people involved in these videos is as priceless as the Charter Book shown here.
You said it. Did you know that the _Periodic table of Videos_ was part of the Royal Society's decision to elect professor Poliakoff as their foreign secretary? Obviously, they've noticed the influence he has when it comes to inspiring young people's enthusiasm for science.

Professor Martyn Poliakoff CBE FRS (Fellow of the Royal Society), currently on its Council as Foreign Secretary and Vice-president. Don't let his natural modesty fool you. His CZcams efforts, excellent as they are, pale in comparison with the rest of his work.
RMoribayashi Considering he'd already been a fellow for about six years when this channel started, it can't possibly have been his only accomplishment, which is why I said _part_ of the reason for his nomination. (Presumably the "spokesperson for science" part, since the scientist part is better demonstrated by his work outside of CZcams.)

He has been given an amazing honour. There are only five Officers of the Royal Society, the President, Treasurer, Biological Secretary, Physical Secretary, and _Foreign Secretary_. He is also a vice-President on the Board, one of the six people that set the agenda of the Royal Society.

Right now I'm studying biology, and it's really hard - you've got to have some incentives like aiming for a signature in this fantastic book. Though, it's not the signature you seek to make - it's the work that earns you the signature.

I think this is worth hundreds of billions but should not be sold. This is like the paintings in the Vatican by Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Fra Angelico, Caravaggio, Titian, and Giotto which are PRICELESS. But now you have a book of signatures by HUNDREDS of people that helped humanity more than any artwork can. That book is more valuable than the Declaration of Independence or any writing for a government. I think its one of the most valuable objects on the planet. But it's priceless and should be kept as secure and preserved as possible.

A big smile appeared on my face when you showed Professor Poliakoff's signature. Watching throughout the video I was thinking what would it be to have his signature there and then it suddenly appeared.
Congrats Professor Poliakoff! What a great honor it must be to be in the same signature book as all those great figures! And yours certainly was not the worst that I noticed, some of the greatest figures had some weird looking signatures too!

I feel incredibly motivated to do great science now, more than I ever have. It was this channel that got me really interested in the field of chemistry, and I'm completely sure that I will be working in that field in the years to come. To be elected and to sign this marvelous book would be absolutely amazing.

I always love when we get to see these little field trips in videos because they often show us such breathtaking things. No, we didn't blow up a balloon of hydrogen in this video, but this book is such a priceless gem and is so interesting in its own right that i caught myself smiling as a read some of the names. Really loved this video Brady!
Honestly? I don't think things like this SHOULD go on auction. Ever. I'm not knocking money, or consumer culture, or anything. I just think that things of this kind of cultural and scientific value shouldn't belong to any one person.
Art is one thing. To own another's artwork, I get that. To own a really expensive piece of artwork, I get that. But science is a whole other beast. Knowledge should be shared, not bought. This may just be a book full of signatures, but it's still science.

I have to agree that an artifact of this magnitude be in public and not closed off from the outside world as a great benefit to humanity.
I was interested to know how Stephen Hawking would sign as Id never seen him with an apparatus to accomplish it, and he would surely be in the book.
He certainly is, carried in and struggled through the process of writing his name by hand while a curious Carl Sagan had come along to watch and join in the applause.

Wow, this video gave me chills of awe and wonder at such a tangible piece of human history.
While watching this I found it very fascinating and I kept saying to myself ''some day I will have my name in that book'' and ''where is Poliakoff's signature?''
I'm very happy that you got to put your signature in that book Professor Poliakoff, you deserve to be there just as much as Newton or anyone else. You really don't know the people that are lead into the field of science because of your enthusiasm. I know you do not want to seem overly proud or arrogant but I'm certain you definitely belong in that book and I'm sure many people would agree with me.
It's pretty amazing how people will work their whole lives with the simple goal of being allowed to sign a book. To most it wouldn't mean a thing but the ones who have achieved the honor are truly the most important figures in modern science.
