    There is some new research on niacin that questions its longevity benefits, and it shows it also maybe increases risks of cardiovascular disease. Furthermore, another online researcher has tested his "Dunedin Pace" longevity age after taking niacin for a couple of weeks, I think it was 500mg / day, and his rate of aging actually increased significantly on that dose. This researcher then stopped niacin and changed his regimen to NMN and the aging test showed a reverse back to his previous results, i.e. aging at about 7 or 8 months per year. It just goes to show that all the supplements we are taking in 2024 may be proved to be wrong for HealthSpan or Lifespan.

    Rimon, there seems to be some research which indicates increase in blood sugar with niacin. Any thoughts?

    • @WellnessMessiah
      @WellnessMessiah  Před 8 měsíci

      Yes, the main issue is insulin, not blood sugar. niacin doesn't increase A1C, only short-term (20-minute glucose) very moderately (less than a meal.
      Regarding insulin, first, you actually improve sensitivity, but high doses continuously hurt insulin - NOT good. That's why I recommend cycling = lower doses. Even though I recommend lower doses than those studies, may not have an impact on insulin at all.

    Great content as usual!! What do you think of NICOTINAMIDE?? Products such us Nuchido TIME+ uses Nicotinamide instead of Niacin. They say "NAD+ cannot be obtained from our diet. It must be made within our cells. Nicotinamide (a form of niacin) is one of the raw materials that the body uses to make NAD+. It is sometimes referred to as an “NAD+ precursor”. Nuchido TIME+ contains nicotinamide to give our cells an adequate supply of the raw material they need to manufacture NAD+. Added benefits. Some forms of niacin (such as nicotinic acid) cause a “flushing” reaction. Nicotinamide does not cause this reaction.

    Niacin has been shown to raise fasting blood glucose - has your low dose regiment shown any similar tendencies?

    • @WellnessMessiah
      @WellnessMessiah  Před 7 měsíci

      hi there. Long term, the main issue is insulin, not blood sugar, which first goes down, then up - but has no effect on A1C. Niacin doesn't increase A1C.
      Regarding insulin, first, you actually improve sensitivity shorts, but high doses continuously hurt insulin - NOT good. That's why I recommend cycling = lower doses. Even though I recommend lower doses than those studies, may not have an impact on insulin at all.
      Cycling may even improve insulin sensitivity according to the study I put with the graph (you will see net insulin is lower).

    • @WellnessMessiah
      @WellnessMessiah  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Hi Penny the target NAD from a different perspective. But I would avoid high doses of niacinamide (over 100mg per day, and too much at once). you will get 20-30 per day from animal products anyway, if you eat them.

    • @pennyrapp7372

      So does niacinamide produce NAD or is NAD better to take. I don’t get 20-30 gr of protein at each meal a day. I try. I intermittent fast most days. It I pay close attention to my diet all healthy in between fasts. No processed or sugar or bad oils.

    A bit off topic, but, per your last email regarding Quercetin protocol. Thank you for the email update.
    Two questions:
    You don't mention, after the intermittent 3 day on/off protocol, when to repeat this. I'm age 73
    Also, quercetin is used in the NMN to NAD salvage pathway. I have been taking it daily, in low dose, 120 mg, (like the Resverotrol) along with the Apigenin and TMG?
    So many questions, so few answers
    I wonder why people in the community aren't getting sick from killing all their healthy cells with high doses of Quercetin and Resverotrol?
    Thanks,
    John

    I don't know if Niacin 'fools' the liver to not produce VLDL (to carry out triglycerides to the blood) is a good thing. Triglycerides just accumulte in the liver as fats...not good.
    Same mechanism with fenefibrates, triglyceride-lowering drug...like Gemfibrozil.

    • @WellnessMessiah

      well, at high levels, it shuts down the fat store, and the liver and adipocytes are in constant talk. That's how it indirectly "fools" it.

    What evidence is there that antioxidants cause harm while exercising? I don't care if exercise has slightly less effect at losing weight or building muscle or even increasing VO2 max, etc. I am more concerned with preventing free radical damage. That seems to me to be far more important for aging. Exercising 5 or 10 more minutes to get the same gains, but without the free radical damage, sounds way better to me.
    I think we have gone way too far the other direction, away from antioxidants.
    Some testing suggests that too much exercise hurts longevity measures, but that "too much" is not very high. In fact, much lower than makes a person very healthy feeling and looking. Could it be that the level is so low because they need more antioxidants to exercise more and actually get the benefits?
